Title: 28mm Australian armour in the Pacific theatre
Post by: Poiter50 on July 04, 2021, 02:55:25 AM
As we start to put together forces for the Pacific theatre, my 3D printing wants/needs expand. One recent venture was for some Matilda II tanks to support an Infantry force. I have read that they vehicles used had been transferred from British supplies where they had become obsolete. Were they retained in British colours or did the Australians have their own take on a colour to use. I have seen mention of Dark Green, British (Olive) Drab and an Australian recipe for Pacific Olive Drab(ish). Any suggestions, preferably Vallejo paints?

Really thinking on M3 Light Tanks and Matilda II (in all the Aussie variants, Gun tank, CS tank, Hedgehog, Frog etc).

The British SCC 15 colour looks about right according to many sources. Many were plain 'green' but there are some photos showing a two-tone scheme.

http://www.mheaust.com.au/Aust/Research/Matilda/Markings%20WW2.htm will give you plenty of information re markings.

"ACE" in this video is supposedly in it's Balikpapan scheme https://youtu.be/DjNMPQLt4Z4 (usual caveats about restorations, but TWO running Matlldas!)

Thanks, a good read. Tamiya do a British OD for NWE.
