Hi all
My first new topic here, so be gentle…..
I have just finished painting and basing some Oathmark Goblin wolves. The riders will be along later, but I thought you might want to see them!
Hope they pass muster…..
-
Some brilliant brushwork there mate!
-
Many thanks GG. Really glad you like them. Compared to some on here I’m just a journeyman though……
-
Very nice indeed! A great variety of natural-looking and convincing colour schemes too. Can't wait to see the riders!
-
Those definitely pass muster, excellent painting and a great set of natural looking colour patterns!
-
Thanks Hobgoblin and Pattus. Really glad you like them. As to the colour schemes, well I’m no artist, more of an artisan. I therefore collected twenty or so pictures of wolves off the internet and had them upon my PC when I painted. After all, we would use references for historicals, so it’s logical to do that with animals. I use the same techniques for horses and any other wild animals I need to paint. It also works for fur cloaks and saddle skins etc..
-
Those Oathmark wolves have had a bit of stick on this forum but yours look great! The effort you put in researching colours has paid off, they look natural but with enough pop to stand out on the tabletop!
-
Wow, those wolves look awesome! Great paintjob, and a very much like their variety.
-
Great job you have done on those wolves.
-
Nicely done.
-
Look very natural
-
They are cracking! Well done :-* :-* :-*
-
Excellent natural range of colours and as others have said you’ve made what I’d written off as ugly, clunky models quite beautiful. The pure white wolf is spot on too (I have a large all white Swiss Shephard x husky) they really are that bright (when clean). Thank you for posting.
BALM
-
Lovely painting I’m not keen on the sculpts themselves but the paint work is fantastic
-
Wow…thanks all. I’m bowled over by these positive comments. As to the sculpts, I can see why they’ve got a bit of stick, but the head end is excellent in my opinion. They do look a little lionish from some angles, and some of the musculature looks like body fat rather than muscle, but over all they look like large wolves, which is kind of the point isn’t it……
-
I really like those wolves and you've done a fantastic job getting them painted up! I really like how they are reminiscent of the old Battle Masters wolves... like they took the best of the battlemasters wolves and made them better.
Excellent paint work, inspiring stuff.

-
Bloomin' eck they're gorgeous. I might now have to hide every figure I've painted, for I am suddenly ashamed of them!!
-
Thanks Neldoreth, really pleased you like them. They were fun to do, even if a bit long winded.
-
Wow Padrissimus, you know how to embarrass a guy LOL. Thanks for the fantastic compliment.
-
They look great. I especially like your basing materials.
Can't wait to see the riders.
-
Hi Thingol
Thanks so much for the kind comments. The basing materials are actually pretty simple. The ground cover is papier mache powder made up with white glue (so it sticks) and tinted with powder paint. The flock is three colours from Javis, meadow green, dark green, and spring green. The rocks are sold in gardening shops for basing pond plants, and the tufts are varied from warpainter.
-
Oh, and the riders will be along in a week or two. It’s just too hot to make progress at the moment. :'(
-
Well that took a lot longer than expected…..
Here are the doggies with riders….group shots and a few close ups. Hope you like them….I need to improve my banners, anyone know of a good primer. :D
-
Great work mate!
-
Thank you so much. Really pleased you like them.
-
Brilliant stuff. I like the colour choices they really add some uniformity to a none uniform force (I think that makes sense).
BALM
-
Many thanks BALM. Glad you like ‘em. I reasoned that they were an elite unit so would put some effort into uniformity…..
-
That was longer than expected? You're not even near my painting slowness... 😀
Great colors on the riders, they look really intimidating!
-
I am really impressed by the way you have used a restricted palette and superb painting.
Thanks for sharing.
-
Hi BZ. Thanks mate, appreciate the support. I am retired, and paint virtually every day, so I thought they would take about two weeks, not four….it felt like I was doing three units at times…
-
Hi Dadlamassu, thanks for the very kind compliment. The restricted palette was deliberate, enabling the red bits to stand out more.
-
Really brilliant stuff! You should be super proud.
-
Many thanks Tyr….much appreciated.
-
great stuff.
-
Thanks bloggard, appreciate the kind comment.
-
Hi all
Not posted on this one for ages. Got sidetracked….
Just finished some lawn ornaments for “the other side”….
Hope you like ‘em….Hobbit slingers next….
-
These are all beautiful! :-*
Well done, and thank you for sharing them with us. :)
Edit: clicked on the wrong smiley for some reason...
-
Lovely colour scheme!
-
Great painting. :)
-
Thanks guys, really pleased that you like them….
-
Great stuff :)
-
Thanks Oshiro, that’s kind of you!
-
Hi all. Here is the next instalment…..Oathmark Hobbit slingers. These are metal figures from the North Star Oathmark range.
I’ve included an Orc’s eye view. As always, hope they pass muster….
-
Lovely - infamous Plum Poachers or perhaps the spirited Plum Brandy Boys?
-
Great work as always mate!
-
lovely work on great figures.
-
Lovely stuff.
How do they scale up to the GW LotR hobbits? I am looking at running a "Scouring" type scenario and need more hobbitses.
-
Thanks Dad…..sort of sloe gin on legs ;)
-
Thanks GG, glad you like them.
-
Thanks Bloggard, they were indeed lovely castings.
-
Cheers Odo.
-
Absolutely lovely - I've never seen Halflings done in purple before, but it really suits them! :)
-
Some lovely brushwork and some great looking units. Your bases look great too.
-
Thanks Gilbear. It’s a colour I had used before much as well. Quite pleased with the outcome to be honest, even if it does look a little like a public school day out……
-
Cheers Melnibonean. Very kind compliments. Basing is actually really simple. The compound is sculptamold from hobby craft, tinted with powder paint. Stones are added into the ground before it dries, using pond gravel. This lets them sit in the landscape rather than on it. They are then flocked with dark, medium, and light flock in turn to give them depth, then tufts are added.
-
Hi all
More 28mm North Star lawn ornaments, this time with sharp and blunt implements to scare off Orcs….
Great fun to paint. Hope you like ‘em.
-
They look superb! :-*
-
Many thanks General. I must admit to being pleased how they turned out.
-
Brilliant! Particularly your metallics, nice sheen.
-
Yes, I like them!
-
Thanks GG. The metallics are done with a base coat of gunmetal, matt varnished, then highlighted with gunmetal again, followed by edge highlights in silver.
-
Thanks Bearwoodsman, so do I for once ;)
-
Latest updates…..
Some North Star Oathmark lawn ornaments….
And some Atlantis miniature Orcs, to be used as Ogre line breakers…including a picture so you compare them for size….Enjoy!
-
excellent paint-work.
the Atlantis figures fit in perfectly in that role.
-
Cheers Blog. Very kind of you. Agree about the Atlantis figures….big enough to be different, but not so large as to be overpowering….believably attired as well….sort of a Zulu vibe going on. Quite complex but paint up well.
-
Looking good!
-
Lovely work :-*
-
Splendid 8)
-
Cheers GG, Malamute and Oshiro. Very kind!
-
Just got a few more Northstar Dwarf personalities off the line….fun to paint and have plenty of texture to work with.
-
Great job on all of those!
-
Those latest additions are jolly nice indeed :-*
-
They’re great 8)
-
Gorgeous :-*
-
Great work! 👍
-
These are great
-
Wow, cheers guys. Very humbling praise and I really appreciate it.
-
Awesome job in these figures, really enjoying watching the Army grow
-
Cheers mate, so am I. Trouble is, I’m doing both sides so it’s a bit slow…..glad you like ‘em though….
-
Wow. I really like what you have done with those dwarfs. Great job.
-
Really nice work.
-
Thanks Odo and Elk…..very kind of you.
-
Long time since I posted on this, or on anything else to be honest. I’ve had a few health issues that put a crimp in my painting style, most bad episodes of RA, which were followed by a DVT issue and a serious bridge embolism. On the mend now though, so here are my newest recruits…..
They are the Oathmark Goblin personality sets.
-
….and a couple more…..
Not up to my best standard, still have issues with grip, and meds have given the hands a slight tremor, but it should all improve over time…..
Hope you like ‘em!
-
Good to see you back and hopefully the recovery won't take too long :)
-
Great work mate! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
-
Cheers James and GG. Glad you like ‘em. I’m already feeling better than I have for months to be honest. Modern medics a miraculous thing indeed.
Trouble is, now I’m able to get about OK her indoors is now mentioning the two most terrifying ideas in the English language….Diet and Exercise……
Cheers
Tim
-
Terrifying words indeed! :o But needs must…. As my doc says.
-
Goblins look great.

And there I was thinking it was "miniatures" and "clearout"! :o lol
Anyway, you've done really cracking job on these, and I'm glad to hear you're feeling better. :)
-
Great work on those models! I hope your recovery goes as smoothly as possible!
-

Yep, needs must…….and so must I LOL…..

Cheers Nick, thanks for selling them to me ;)

lol No worries. Nice to see they've gone to a good home.
-
Lovely stuff Tim. I really like how you painted the shaman's fur pelt - exotic/fantastic but still realistic looking.
Your dwarves from a few months back are simply stunning.
Wishing you a steady recovery.
-
Just looked through all of the pages. I'm loving where this is going!

Cheers Hob, very humbling comments. Recovery is going well, thanks. The pelt is copied from a picture I found on the net. It is a striped hyena……it’s the only way I can do skins and furs. I copy originals because they don’t always grow as you would imagine.
-

Thanks Gibby. Glad you like them, more to come soon….
-
OK, next instalment……..28mm Northstar Elf and safety…..
Camera seems to have flattened the highlights and pretty much wiped out the colour differentials. Sorry about that.
-
They look great :)
-
Agreed, I like those a lot!
-

Too kind Red.
-
They look great, and very nicely painted and based as all the minis in your thread here are. :)
My only observation is the that poor elf fella on the far left of the picture appears to have some sort of severe-looking medical issue with his neck! The "joys" of posing separate heads on plastic models I suppose. lol
-

LOL…..hadn’t noticed that. It’s possibly the effect of wind on the ice cream cone hairstyle they seem to favour….l

Hi all
Long time since I posted on this……but I fancied some cavalry, so here are the Gripping beast Arab light cavalry done up as a generic fantasy cavalry unit.
Enjoy…..
-
Really great, your varied colour choices work brilliantly at suggesting the individuality/non-uniform of the chaps whilst tying them together nicely. Bravo sir!
Balm

Lovely work 8)

Just discovered this cool thread: very nice work. I really like your goblins!
Hope your recovery is proceeding nicely.
-
Another lovely unit. Really enjoying your 'clean' style of painting.

Cheers Balm. Glad you like them. I thought they were a bit dolly mixture when I painted them, but they work better as a unit than I thought.

Cheers Divis.
The goblins are good fun to paint. I don’t like Kermit green skin on them, so went with a blue grey face tone followed by highlights, then Vallejo face wash to define the shadows. Gives a cool skin with a warm undertone to show life.
-
Another lovely unit. Really enjoying your 'clean' style of painting.
Thanks Hob. Glad you like them. Seem to have lost the highlights a little, could be the photos, but might need to push them a bit more on the next lot……
-
The colour tones on the horses are amazing! Great job!
-
The colour tones on the horses are amazing! Great job!
Cheers TGA. Really glad you like them. The horses were relatively easy, if a little time consuming. All I did was found photos of horses I liked the look of on the internet and copied them ;). There are plenty of resources out there, I even learned the difference between Bays and Chestnuts….I always thought they were just coat colours, turned out I was wrong.
PS, It’s how I always do animals, I never make them up :)
-
Hi all
Next instalment….just a few Elven Rangers…as usual figures by Northstar painting by me….
I used an autumn palette on these guys just to change it up a little. Hope you like ‘em…..
-
Nice work.
The Arab cavalry are excellent.

Lovely as always Tim. I like the choice of leather helmets. Very cool.
-
Lovely as always Tim. I like the choice of leather helmets. Very cool.
Cheers Hob. The thought process, such as. It is, was that rangers move quietly through woodland…..a metal helmet is going to clang when hit by branches, leather doesn’t. I also thought they looked cool ;)
-
Lovely smooth colours on those :)

Long time since I posted anything on here. Real life got in the way somewhat. Anyway, here are some Oathmark Orcs. I went for a lighter than usual skin tone with a few lesions thrown in….
-
worth the wait. nicely done, and the lighter skin tone works well.
Hope you get some more hobby time in soon!
-
Thanks bud, kind of you ;)
-
Looking good! 👍
-
Cheers GG
-
A great looking band of uruk thugs there! I like your choice of palette.
-
Cheers Pattus.
-
Yeah, that works nicely. The Oathmark kit screams 'Man-orc' and you've certainly pulled off that vibe. Great to see a different take on these minis.
-
I went for the “corrupted elf” look, so glad it works. Cheers fella
-
Hi all. Slowly building these guys up. Next is some artillery for my Dwarven field force. An Onager I think it’s called. Made in 1/72 by Zvezda. As always, I hope it passes muster.
-
They look like they mean business, great work.
-
That will be unpleasant for whichever enemy is down range! The war engine and crew look great. The basing ties everything together well.
-

Many thanks PM. Good of you to say so.
-
Have to agree with PM- lovely basing, I wouldn’t mind taking a stroll on that field if it weren’t for the tiny oiks and their war machine! The whole thing looks fantastic, thanks for posting :D

Cheers BB. Nice to have summer on the base I think.
-
Well, we had no internet for a week which pushed me on with the next lot. Safety elves……not my favourite sculpts in the range, but they’ve scrubbed up OK. Hope you like ‘em.
-

Very nice painting.....but Safety elves? Shouldn’t they be in Hi-Viz? 😀
-
Great work on the elves. I didn't like the look of them just from the box/pictures so I had never considered them. They do look like they scrub up okay though!
-
Cheers Armchair. Thanks for the support. It’s just a joke I’ve got going on a modelling site. Someone quoted them as Elfin safety, so it’s just sort of stuck ;D
-
Thanks elbows. Not my favourite from the range I must admit, but they do paint up quite quickly. They should probably have scabbards though :o
-
Next instalment…….human ballista.
Ballista by zvezda and crew are repurposed Frostgrave adventurers.
-
Very nice!
-
Very nice.
-
Cheers Dean and Smurf. Kind of you 👍
-
They work well together 8)
-
Thanks James.
-
Very nice
-
Gorgeous stuff! Love the extra wooden defences, really well done :D
-
I had never seen the Zvezda siege kit "in the flesh" your look gorgeous.
-
Thanks guys, very humbling comments.
