Title: Oathmark, party of eight? Your table is ready.
Post by: The Bibliophile on July 22, 2021, 04:28:06 AM
"The holdings of Ellendale are once again threatened by the forces of the Belted Way followers. A battle is surely brewing in the Plains of Montgoco. The spy’s of the Belted Way have discovered that the Silver Spring, near the Plains of Montgoco, may grant special blessing to those that bathe in its waters. The troops of the Belted Way hope to receive those gifts as the battle approaches!"

For the Scrum Club's eight-player game of Oathmark last weekend, the GM wrote the above highly allusive premise littered with references to everything from the county I live in to my wife's name Ellen. I found it funny and clever, and I always appreciate when folks put in the extra effort. Can anybody guess where our club meets to play our games?

This was our second experience with Oathmark, and the opposing forces in this game were of the more classical fantasy sort -- undead, necromancers, and orc minions on one side facing off against humans, elves and dwarves on the other.

Wow, those are a lot of units! Wasnt the table too small?

It was a little crowded, but not terribly so. We had about 10 units per side on a 4x6 foot table.

I need to get back to assembling my movement trays and give this a try.  My main problem is that my basing scheme is 6 or 8 foot on a 60mm square, so getting a unit frontage of 5 is a pain…

2x60=120, which is almost 5x25=125, so You could try it, just have to follow the casualties somehow.

That looks very good, and what is more, enjoyable!

Well done!

I love large group games like this, but I wouldn’t have thought of oathmark as a vehicle to do it. Looks great!
Oh, what mat are y’all playing on? Nice shades of green there.

One of the guys in our group, John Sears of the 1000 Foot General blog, made it. I think he found a file on the Wargame Vault and then printed it on a thin 4x6 cotton blanket via Walmart. I think it cost him around $40-$50. Turned out so well that a couple of other fellas in the club have now ordered one, too...

True enough.  Just count the 12 as 10.  I would have to composite multiple units to get to 24 for 20 in most case, though, since I also tend to be organized in 12s for most of my fantasy collection.

A cotton blanket? That holds up well throughout the game and doesn’t  move much?

I haven't noticed any issues in any of our games!
