Title: Last Portuguese for the Peninsular Project
Post by: olicana on July 22, 2021, 07:07:34 PM
....at least for stage 1.

The lead pile dwindles ever smaller: 75 units down, four to go.

Latest additions, the last of the Portuguese.

Gotta say, Portuguese are some of the easier soldiers to paint up.

Fantastic work and blog. I will have to copy your work for the limbers. I just finished painting a unit of Spanish Dragoons, a unit of Portuguese cavalry and 2 British Dragoon units. I need to finish off a French Dragoon unit and then onto the artillery for all 4 countries. Mine are all Front Rank as well. Glad to hear the Portuguese are easy to paint because the cavalry figures were/are a beast to paint!!

Thanks for sharing your great works.
Regards,
Hitman

Good stuff.  I always think the Portuguese seem underrepresented in peninsular games.  Nice to see the balance redressed.

Marvellous stuff, as always. Bases too are top-notch. Love the mix of colour, stone, and flock bits. These latest make me want to open a Peninsular front, as I've been concentrating on 1809 (Danube). Inspirational in every respect, good sir.

Hi FM,

Since getting Thunder on the Danube, I've been thinking about going the other way. I keep thinking, a few extra French like Guard and cuirassier and perhaps a few more Poles, and the Austrians of course.

Then I remember just how massive 1809 is in comparison to the Peninsular, where 40, 000 is a big army for theatre. The confined geographical nature of the Peninsular, and the comparatively small forces required, has to be why so many people do it.

Nope, next up for me it's the Spanish. Over the last four or five weeks I've bought £1400 worth from Front Rank (the last 'bits and pieces' order is still to arrive). That's my lead pile for the next few years.

Good luck with all the Spanish! Lots of colour there, with some pesky yellows to challenge the brush work. I am onto the third volume of Gill, enjoying especially the kind of granular detail on smaller engagements, or parts of larger ones, that he provides - a few squadrons of this, a few companies of that. Fascinating stuff, and I have been buying related board games to hoover up maps of the theatre that give me a better visual sense of relationships.  Have also been reading into the Tyrolean and Italian theatres, with a mind (some day, some day) to dab up a few units from those areas.

But I am a slow and rubbish painter, so by age 100 or so I will have finished a corps or three, based for AoE in 15mm, if the Allied OOB for Waterloo, or the Peninsula, doesn't waylay me first!!

Anyway, really admire your posts, minis, and gaming space. All the best.
