Title: King William's Wars - Douglas's Regiment - The Royal Scots
Post by: Hu Rhu on August 02, 2021, 05:24:17 PM
As an adjunct to my Tangier project, I have started to build up a small force for the 9 Years War (or the Grand Alliance/League of Augsburg).   The first of these is the Danish regiment Jyske (Jutland).

Miniatures are from the Northstar 1672 range with flags from Warfare Miniatures.  I know the figures are from a slightly earlier period but they are such wonderful sculpts and so easy to paint.

Thanks for the kind comments.  Next up is a Dutch Regiment - Brandenburg using Warfare Miniature figures.  They seem to go well with the Northstar range.

I have to agree. I keep looking at those figures and thinking "maybe just one regiment"! I have no project in mind, I just love the look of them.

Great, Garry. They look fantastic.

Very nice (so many buttons  :o)  8)

Thanks guys.

Steve surprisingly I find the buttons relatively easy (dab of black and a dab of white/yellow) and because they are the last things I paint it provides closure for the miniature.  A grand finale so to speak.

Really lovely painting, Gary.   :-*

Thanks Martin.  Go on you know you want to.  Just one Regiment - for fun - it'll be easy - you won't get sucked in I promise you.  :D :D :D

Actually if you are interested I wouldn't mind doing Mommouth's revolt. We could split the forces?

Great work on those pesky Danes  :)

Thanks chaps.

I have had these on the painting table for a while and finally got them finished but was waiting a age for the flags to arrive.

Dutch Regiment Brandenberg.  Warfare Miniatures figures and flags.

The blue is a little lighter than I had originally planned and probably not completely historically correct but I like it. 8)

Also an Anglo Dutch Brigade Commander. Figures are Front Rank.

And finally some Dutch Artillery. Warfare Miniatures with some resin gabions.

I have some figures for Kirkes Regiment on the go and then will turn my attention to some cavalry.

Thanks very much for the kind comments.

I've been working on some of the plastic Warlord Games Malburian figures to see if they would be suitable. Here are a few painted up as the Dutch Infantry Regiment - Van Graben.

Size wise they match Northstar reasonably well but as you can see the detail is not as sharp as on the metal figures,  There are also too few floppy hats to create all 24 figures for the right period.

I hope to kit bash some other hats to fill out the ranks and by adding a couple of command stands and a pike stand or two, I hope to create two regiments of foot.I'll show the outcome in my next post once the figures have arrived.

Meanwhile I'm waiting for some cavalry from both Ebor and Warfare Miniatures and i'll post pics of those once they are finished.

And having done Monmouth’s Revolt may I recommend it as a great campaign/what if game. It won’t take long to paint up, honest ;)

Title: Re: King William's Wars - Dutch Regiment Van Graben and Kirkes Lambs

Here is the finished Regiment Van Graben.  A combination of Warlord Games plastics and Northstar metals.

Also here are my Kirke's Lambs.  These are Front Rank miniatures built for my Tangier project and mounted on 1p coins,  The figures can be used for Pikeman's Lament and then with the added sabot bases you see here can take their place in the line for Beneath the Lily Banners.

Although I have a whole load of cavalry ready for painting this project will take a back seat for a couple of months, whilst I on concentrate on others.  I'll come back to this in the spring.

Thanks for all the kind comments.

Despite my plans to paint up some cavalry, I acquired a number of figures from a fellow LAF member, Armchair General.  Some went to my wargames pal who is collecting the French but I kept others, particularly the English regiments and a partly painted unit in grey coats.

I have repainted where necessary and turned these figures in the Danish Sjaellandske (Zealand) Regiment.  Northstar figures and Warfare Miniatures flags.

I plan to turn the two English regiments into Trelawney's and Douglas's regiments one of which will also serve in my Tangier project.

Thanks for all the positive comments.  I agree that it is a great period to game, with plenty of variety in uniforms and of course the colours.

Next up we have Trelawney's Regiment.  Northstar 1672 figures and Warfare Miniatures flags.

These were originally part of a unit I bought from armchair General, Kirke's Regiment.

Since I already had this unit, I re-painted the facings and breeches yellow, with blue stockings and then re-based them and added new flags. I also added a few of my own figures to make the right numbers of command etc.

Next up are Dumbarton's Regiment and then finally I'll get round to the cavalry.

I've finally got the cavalry started and they'll be next up.
