Title: I played a Roman game
Post by: Jjonas on August 03, 2021, 03:49:35 AM
I had some fun with the local game group in town. First time gaming with a crowd since the pandemic struck.
Roman Civil War is an easy choice since everybody has the same types of troops.
We did not get to a firm conclusion, but my friend Rich Norton's Romans put on a fine show!
Old timey big game with some tactics strewn in there for kicks.
This was a mish mash of WAB and Lion Rampant (more of the latter than the former). An experiment of a WAB like game with variable activations.
It worked to a "varying" degree, better than last time but still has many kinks.

Looks superb!

Still got to say those Copplestone figures are the best after all these years.
I wish he’d finished more of the range off, I remember back when they were first released, that there was a promise of some Egyptian additions to the range.

I’ve got that same temple model too!

They definitely have a lot of character. This project got me to add some unpainted ones in to the mix. I also have in progress 18 more of the Copplestone Companion figures with massive plumes and winter cloaks. I hoping to finally get them completed (from about half way done) and based soon. Of course I couldn't help myself and I also ordered a bunch of Aventine Equites cavalry-  for some reason I had none in my collection, shocking.

Super cool Centurions:

It was fun just to play with a large display of troops.

Hi Jeff,

A super looking game and a fun report! I really must dust off my own Civil War minis.

Best, Simon

Thanks! (Some thought it was TtS because of the grid- could have been I reckon).
You have the naval legion. I'm so jealous :) I'm working on my Copplestones as soon as I finish some writing! Plus I need to make a gladiator legion and copy your shields!

Excellent game and report Jeff.  Lots of great painted miniatures too.  I have some of those Copplestone Romans and have even painted a few.  I must get an army together.

Great looking game and blog entry, Jeff.  Cool to see that many Romans on the table.
