Title: [Commercial] Confrontation Continuum - LIVE on www.TempleWest.co
Post by: gibby64 on August 06, 2021, 10:17:46 PM
Hey guys, I'm excited to announce the newest project by Temple of the West... "Confrontation Continuum" ... now, we ALL know how the Kickstarter went with some criminals running the show. We have ABSOLUTELY no affiliation with those jokers. In fact the French government has seized most of their assets because of several fraudulent crowdfunding campaigns and there are 2 criminal cases against them.

ANYWAY... history of that disaster behind us, Temple of the West has acquired the rights to produce Confrontation Continuum which will be a continuation of the story, continuation of the world, and continuation of the miniature line. We are currently working with Gary Chalk to bring many of his amazing illustrations to light in miniature form. We have hired ex-Rackham sculptors, ex-Rackham Illustrators, and ex-Rackham painters to realize this project. We are also working on a new Rulebook which will give a nod to the 3.5 edition, but be a much more playable version focused on story and narrative and take out some of the more clunky and dated mechanics. All existing miniatures and factions will work with the new rules, and the existing cards will also work. We wanted to make sure of that! Anyway.. These will be our first releases (NOT A KICKSTARTER)... many of these concepts have sat on the shelf of Gary's office and never seen the day of light. He has a LARGE stack of work he did for Rackham that was never used before they folded.... I hope you enjoy! We do not have a launch date as of yet, but are getting closer every day.

Follow us on Instagram for a lot of teasers @ Temple of the West, or on Facebook.

So prepainted plastic? ;) Just kidding.
Glad to see this is up and on the go. Great Minis and IP that need to get back out there. So resin, metal, PVC or hard plastic?

great news.

congratulations and best wishes for all going to plan.

* and great to see Gary Chalk's involvement - had no idea he'd been a designer when the ranges were first out.

Yes, Gary supplied an amazing amount of Art for the Cadwallon RPG books and a few of the Cry Havoc Magazines. I was really happy when he enthusiastically jumped on board with the project. He was REALLY upset to see how the Kickstarter went as he loves the Aarklash universe. We have a lot of great things planned.

Interesting. Will you be making the old miniatures?

No, Sadly the masters are still in the hands of Stellar Licensing (the Kickstarter guys) and they have no plans for them. I've heard they are trying to piecemeal them out to different manufacturers.... BUT, the other issue is the Cadwallon.com guys in the ukraine are already pumping them out in metal and resin... So, 1. I don't think anyone else is going to buy the sculpts to make since there's already a company making them (illegally)... 2. Nobody is wanting to deal with Stellar after all of the fraud they were involved in with several crowdfunding campaigns. Again, that's why we are calling it Continuum... to more everything forward from here with respect and recognition of the past. If there was a clean way to get the old line, I would have loved to.

Most of the models will be Metal. I'm a big fan of metal. But the larger stuff will be resin. Too many times have the big metal models just fallen apart during transportation. Glue can only hold so much weight! There's also a few more complicated pieces that will likely be resin as trying to do them in metal would be tricky for the molds.

I'm surprised none of the old Confrontation fans volunteered to stage a commando raid.  :)

New designs certainly look nice.

Watching this with interest as was part of the original UK Conf-Federation scene ... is this going back to skirmish or is it the later unit based battles?

Skirmish! The new rules will use 3.5 as a familiar engine, but have a lot of changes to gear it more towards a narrative/story/campaign based system. I'm really excited about the supplements that will come out after the rules!

Metal! Sounds great. Fully understand resin for the bigger though. Large metals are a nightmare sometimes, especially if the fit isn't quite right.

And looking forward to see what you've done ruleswise  ;)

Not to sound like a negative nancy, but I hope you guys have a strong ad/pr team. Confrontations brand was dragged through the mud by the french team and anyone looking into confrontation for the first time will be getting swamped with "Load of bloody chancers etc"

Great stuff.  The draw of Confrontation for me was the absobloodylutely gorgeous metal miniatures and the fact it was a skirmish game.  Dogs of War was a great campaign system too.

Hopefully this will all work out and we will see this game back on tables across the country.

I completely understand all of this! Luckily I'm the moderator of the Confrontation Facebook page and have a good measure of the pulse at all times and so far the entire community on board with the project. The fact that I'm not asking for money up front also helps! I'll let everyone judge us by our merits. We have a lot of great sculpts, art, and lore in the pipeline.... so soon enough it'll be easy to show we are actually doing this and doing it right. Appreciate the concern!

A few new concepts to show off. These concepts are from veteran Rackham illustrator Edouard Guiton...

Feyd Mantis, the most powerful and feared man in all of the kingdom of Acheron.

and

Guardian of the Temple - Temple of the North, for the Griffins of Akkylannia... There will be 1 for each of the 4 temples across Aarklash...

Also attached is the newly finished sculpt of Grandmaster Kaltyr from the Concept above. Really happy with how he turned out.

These are excellent news, and knowing that people with a real passion for the IP are behind the wheel is really reassuring.

Quick question that may really help me getting back to my Confrontation backlog, do you plan to use square or round bases? I'd love for round bases to be the future, Confrontation minis are so much better on round bases...

You'll be happy to know that the new rules have already reached a BETA version that we playtested this last weekend. The new rules are "base agnostic" meaning round or square are acceptable and as a small hint as to why, the facing rules have been taken out as they are rather dated for a small skirmish game and don't quite make sense from a thematic standpoint. Here is the first of 3 Royal Guardsmen based on the Art from Gary Chalk. Sculpted by the Talented Denis Gonnella. Still a LOT of work to do on the rules and the new book will be chocked full of NEW ART from Gary as well as several other artists.

I'm so glad I stumbled onto this thread!

Confrontation has always been a stylistical favourite of mine, and I own many of its great miniatures, mainly Mid Nor, Cadwallon, and those Samurai/ninja Goblins, but honestly, there's really no faction I don't like.

Never played the actual game. I tried setting up a game of Hybrid once, but the rather atrocious translation in the books, plus the gorgeous background artwork combined with really small print really messed things up to the point where nobody understood, so we gave up (picture 5 grown men around a table, all in differing states of frustration and embarrassment lol ).

But the minis... :-*

I've already seen several very suitable Cadwallon minis in your thread, that will fit right in with my city guards. Perhaps I will now be able to overcome my fear of failure (because the gorgeous minis really intimidate me for some reason) and finally put some paint to them. Because they so deserve it...

Best of luck with your project, Gibby; I think we'll all be rooting for you!  8)

Thank you so much! I truly hope you do dive into your paints! That is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the hobby! The new rules will be very different from the original system, as they will focus more on narrative and campaigns... they will be much more accessible, play faster, and most importantly fun!

Good move releasing the figures retail. Myself, I didn't hear of the game line until the KS itself -- no such thing as bad PR...!

This is indeed great news.  I've always liked Confrontation style miniatures - but their...spotty history has kept me away from their game, let alone the minis.  I see several here I'd already want for a dungeon crawl or skirmish game.

Oodles of character.

What’s the ETA on these and the rules again?

Miniatures for the New line will begin to release late this year. All new miniatures will come packed with a playing card for "Continuum" as well as a retro card for playing 3.5.

The Gladiator as well as Kelaz and Chastel will also have optional higher tiers that come with a never before seen colorized 4x6 giclee print of the art from Gary. He has color inked these especially for our launch. There are also a limited 150 of each that have been signed and numbered by Gary. Those are on their way to me from France as I type this. A really fun addition for the collector and they came out BEAUTIFUL in color.

The rules will release mid next year should everything stay on schedule. I'm trying to REALLY do them up with entirely new art (a lot from Gary), and art from a lot of new names that have come up in the industry since Rackham met its unfortunate demise. These rules will have a VERY different play style, though combat will still feel a little familiar as it was a unique system and works really smoothly now that it has been streamlined a bit. It is also still a skirmish size game. I'll have more about the rules later in an official write-up.

From noble houses throughout Cadwallon come Elite Warriors who fight fiercely for their family name and notoriety throughout the fiefs. They are not bothered with the day to day street patrolling of the militia, but are called upon by the Duke when a real evil arises and threatens to destabilize the free city. Darkness is coming... will they join your ranks?

A quick question i hope you can answer.  This has really gotten my excitement up as confrontation is one of my favorite games, that essentially got me into miniature war gaming. I’m going through my old stuff looking to assemble and paint some of it and was wondering what type of bases the new rules will use.  I really prefer rounds, but if it will be a problem then i’ll base accordingly — i really hate rebasing stuff.  Thanks again

You'll be very excited to hear that the new rules are base agnostic as there are no longer any facing rules. Standard dwarf or human size figures can be based on 25 -32mm square or round bases.... the new rules require you to first build a commander (you on the battlefield) through either the warrior or magician tract... so if you have a figure that you might want to be your seasoned veteran warlord or all powerful vizier then he could be based on a more decorative 40mm if you wanted him to stand out a bit more from your characters (named models) and troops (generic troop types)... hope this helps you choose!

Not sure this has been asked - didn't see it discussed above...

What about new goblins?  I loved the pirate goblins, as well as a few of the others from Confrontation.  Some were just too weird, even for goblin collectors.  I've scoured fleabay and finally accumulated a full set of the pirate gobbers, but would love to see more.

Truthfully, though, more Confrontation is always good, as it still stands as some of the more incredibly interesting miniature ranges I've seen.

I couldn't agree more! We have one Golblin that has just wrapped up the sculpting/casting/painting process that we will be showing soon... he is of the Uraken Clan though, so Samurai in nature. We will get to all of the factions in time. I'm trying not to just spitball everywhere and actually create sets (including a 2 player starter for next year) so that there aren't just a bunch of one-off's that new players/collectors can't do anything with. With 19 factions it'll take a bit to get to all of them, but we WILL get there!

Of love for Confrontation and I saw this on Ontabletop:

Yes! I've been working very close with Gilberto on the app. He has done an amazing job on it! It's free on the Google play and Apple stores if you want to learn more about confrontation and the different characters and factions. Totally FREE.

Today we revealed the Vanth Reapers... once Reapers of Alahan, they were turned to Darkness by their old commander "Cmyr"... now they are compelled to destroy all paths but their own...

CMYR de Vanth is a member of House Vanth. The second most powerful Barony in Acheron. Before Acheron fell to Darkness, CMYR was a commander for the Reapers of Alahan and considered one of their best investigators. Since his family's change of allegiance he has been using his skills for the powers of Darkness and recruiting over men he used to command under Alahan.

The world can never have enough Samurai Goblins! One more for Clan Uraken... this one is a baddy! Very close to having our first releases out, we are just waiting for cards. Our printer is very backed up unfortunately. Due to the complexity of the sculpt it will be offered in resin and not metal. Sculpt was done by the amazing Denis Gonnella.

Nice Goblin, spikey, love it. Gotta say, respect for reanimating the Confrontation line. That's the best way for a disappointed ks-backer to get back at those, well, you know what they are... ;-).
I'm following this with interest, there are a couple of figs I still want in my collection.  :)

I actually liked the pre-paints for what they were. Easy way to build an army for multiple rulesets.

Would it be heresy to use my Wrath of Kings Goristi to play a Wolfen army? lol

That is a wonderful concept. I would say the updated concept art and the sculpting is even better than the original. I am very excited. Confrontation was my first serious venture into wargaming and I still have some Goblins, Skeletons and Meliador.

What I would really like to see is an updated version of Golborak. Always loved the idea, but wished the sculpt was less stout and more elegant. A proper Goblin mecha!

Looking forward to the release.

Hey guys, thanks for the compliments! We continue to have more and more to show for this project which we are now planning on releasing in early 2022. Sadly our cards and promotional items have been stuck on a boat for months and have really set us back. I will say though that the new rulebook will have all of the profiles for units in the book, so feel free to proxy in some of those amazing wrath of kings models or whatever else you have to try an army out. This version of Confrontation is narrative driven and more about the story and scenarios then being hard fast rulesy with correct model sculpts... tho I have to agree we are having some amazing sculpts coming out! We are trying to only employ the best sculptors and concept artists for this line.

Here are a few more units that will be coming out soon.

We are getting ever closer. There was a bit of a backup at the caster as they were finishing up a few large kickstarters... I just received several of the metal masters for inspection and they have already been sent off to the painters for card art! Production molds have been ordered for these now and we are roughly a month or so from FINALLY being able to launch. Here are some of the assembled and primed metal masters that will have some gorgeous color applied rather soon! And a nice comparison pic of Kelaz the Brutal with his old Rackham line Sessair brethren.

I am so thrilled by this project’s progress. I grew up with Redwall and Lone Wolf and my first modeling projects were from a tattered copy of The Magnamund Companion that still occupies a cherished space on my gaming bookshelf. Gary Chalk is my favorite fantasy artist and his contributions to Cadwallon in specific, and Aarklash in general, are wonderful. I look forward to further developments and wish you all the best in bringing more of his art to life in miniature, and extending the story of Confrontation.

When you see a finished new sculpture like the one I'm showing today it is usually about 2 months out from releasing. My sculptor is in Belgium, so I have him finish several models at a time before shipping them over here to the USA due to shipping costs.

Here we have Khaurik's Standard Bearer...

They are coming in hot and heavy now... we aren't too much further out from the launch... I know many have been waiting for quite some time, but I assure you I'm working as fast as I can while keeping the quality at ABSOLUTELY top notch.... as it should be for such a continuation of Rackham's work.

Kelaz the Brutal...  Once a protector for Sessair trade convoys to Cadwallon, now a sword for hire within the city itself. Preferring the curiosities of city life, but the dress of his people make him a renowned personality within the gates and a feared presence if he happens upon you. Kelaz has found himself continually aligned with Chastel, a scrupulous Cadwe Noble. Doing his bidding when the need arises and the price is right.

Chastel the Devious... A Cadwe noble by birth from very old money. Nobody in the City of Cadwallon can quite make "things" happen like him. As trusted by other nobles as he is distrusted. Chastel's vast underground network runs throughout all of the Fiefs in Cadwallon. His eyes and ears are everywhere. Over the years he has taken in Kelaz to be a personal bodyguard and his most trusted "settler of matters". Though, Kelaz still does as Kelaz wants and takes work from many others who "need things done".

Chastel adds some range to the game as he carries a flintlock pistol given to him by his father who won it in a duel over a property dispute when Chastel was but a boy. Chastel had always admired the pistol and upon his father's death it was the only possession he wanted from him. To his surprise his father had left it to him in his will. He carries it religiously even though it is somewhat outlawed, but loosely enforced, for nobles to carry their own weapons in Cadwallon. Even though he is a little man in stature, as he walks the street with Kelaz by his side, he doesn't run into much opposition about the pistol he carries unsurprisingly.

ANNOUNCEMENT! Launching Friday May 6th!

We are very excited to launch this new range of miniatures for Confrontation Continuum and 3.5. What began as a partnership with the amazing Gary Chalk has grown into a partnership with many artists, sculptors, and producers around the world.
On May 6th we will launch the very tip of the iceberg. To make this a special launch we commissioned Gary Chalk to color render some of his old art from his Rackham days. From that we created a limited print art series for collectors and lovers of his art. The art is limited to 400 numbered copies, with the first 150 being signed by Gary. We then created miniatures from these concepts for use in Continuum and 3.5.

What is a KyleStarter? Kyle is the driving force behind Temple of the West and he started this whole thing. So, we thought it would be fun to call this a Kyle Starter. As we were not going to launch with KickStarter given the recent history of the game and Kickstarter. We wanted to build trust with the community. KyleStarter is a Pre-Order.

Why a Pre-Order? Pre-Orders help small companies such as us gauge the interest in the product before we place an order from the factory. We currently already have all of the molds finished for this project and are only waiting on orders from YOU to start filling those molds with molten pewter. All of the KyleStarter will be for sale in the webstore (Unless the ART sells out!) after delivery of product and all Pre-Orders are fulfilled. So, fear not. You can still order everything after the KyleStarter is over. We are offering a discount to people to participate early as a "Thank YOU" for helping us jump start this line. We plan to have continual releases of new miniatures after the initial release is finished. We have a lot already finished and several VERY exciting things currently being sculpted.

Where do we place our Pre-Order? at www.TempleWest.co

What is Continuum? Continuum is not a revamp of 3.5. It is an entirely new system with a few similarities. It is a skirmish game using between 10 and 15 miniatures that are controlled by a central commander. It is very fast paced and characterized as quick to learn with lots of depth. We plan to have an entire intro video to Continuum in the coming months, complete with a play through. We plan to release a Beta version of the rules later this year. It's a LOT of work to write/playtest/layout/design/illustrate/photograph a quality set of rules. So, we are working as quickly as we can on this. But, we also have day jobs and families, so bear with us.

So why 3.5 cards too? We love 3.5. We know so much of the community still loves 3.5 and play other versions using 3.5 cards. We wanted to include a card for 3.5 so you can continue playing that version too with the new units and miniatures that will begin to be released through Temple of the West.

With this said, we are excited about all of this and the future of this range of miniatures. We can only continue to build on this future with your support. So please share this from the mountain tops!

Thanks so much!

-The Temple

The shipping on square is really hard to set up different tiers for. If you are just wanting to order him, send me an email at info@templewest.co. We can definitely get you cheaper shipping. We had to plan for all the people ordering the larger bundles which are about 1.5 pounds when packed. Anything over a pound gets really expensive internationally.
