Title: Cultist's car with mysterious passenger (coloured in) TSG's Cultists thread.
Post by: tin shed gamer on August 15, 2021, 11:22:50 AM
Ever since I made the Mad Mullah on the mule. I've had a notion to turn it into part of a more unusual set of cultists.
Here a few bits of where that notion toddled off too.
Or rather one of the branches .( of course there's more, lots more, as it turned out to quite the pool ;D)

Which should start to give you a little more of an idea as to why these pieces exist.
The mule riding mullah has some additional figures to give it some context too. ;)

Amazing Mark!  :o Those are a must-have for sure! They have a Rajneeshi vibe to them. Especially the Ma Sheela looking lady in the backseat of the car!  lol

Here's a couple of better shots of the figures in the slotta bases. If nothing else it shows what they're actually ment to be doing( which is what I should have done originally   ::))
There's also a couple of running boards to add to your own vehicles if you so choose.
90% of the cultists I've done so far are wearing a 'face' shaped mask. The gunner on the back of the Tilly has one tucked into his waist . just for continuity.
In theory he should be available with either a Lewis, Bren, or Boyes anti tank rife( as they're already cast and will fit.)
I've a Vickers Berthier sculpted which may replace the Bren as an option as it'll fit better with the regional influences of the figures and can be squeezed back to the mid to late 1920s.

Ah ok! That explains why one of the Moulah variants is holding a mask in his hand. Very cool idea.

I'll take a better picture of the set tomorrow if you want.
It's a set I wanted for myself so it had to be done. Originally I thought about putting the rug over the shoulder of the Yeti but figured it'd work better as a set. As there's something quite pleasing about setting before the rug is cooperating.

Here you go.

Yes I made a Yeti . I doubt very much It'll be released as it's not in the traditional Tibetan vibe.
I used other regional discriptions of the Yeti to build it. So it may not translate well for some. Plus it's a bit on the large side( just over 5cm to the top of it's hair.)

Better angle, yes. Amazing work! Is the guy standing off to the side adjusting his mask? I know cell phones didn't exist in the interwar period.  lol

Too bad about the Yeti. I still think we should see a photo.  :D

I should of realised you'd. Want to see it  lol

Here's a couple of pictures. As I said It's not something I plan   on casting so it's unbased. There's a gap around the waist to allow it to be cut into parts.( as it was originally intended to go into the range.)

No worries Jon. Totally get it. Had great plan's for the summer holidays. We've managed two nights away and are still trying to figure how we're now at back end of August.

Cheers Chaps,
I don't suppose there's much wrong with it as a model. It follows the regional description . Portioned similarly to an early hominid. Animal skins around the waist shoulder and head.
It's not until I replied to a P.M. that it dawned on me what's behind my reluctance to finish it.
If it's something you'd like me to add to the range. Then I'll finish it or rather cut it up to cast. Although it'll take up the same amount of lead as six or seven 28's.

Cheers,
I suppose it was a little unsporting .To show you the Yeti shrine without letting you know it's got four supporting packs.
I thought it quite fitting to have one of the other 'Yeti' myths as  worshipping the big Yeti's.
Should explain really . One of the other regional versions of Yeti. Are a proto human 'caveman' with a big swollen nose that borrow livestock and people from time to time.

I do a small henge as well but that was packed up by the time I thought about photos.
I quite like the stone pile troll. But I'm not adding a troll to this stuff as I've been asked to add one to the expansion of another project.

Oh the cult assassin's pack might just give you some other idea's than cannibals to push your project along  ;)
In the meantime  here's sometimes else to muse over, as it'll fit nicely with the cultists. For some reason it's In the Home Front section.
The painted one is the original one off I made for my collection. Where as the white metal version is the one I had to add to the range as mine accidentally ended up in Wargames Illustrated and Simon and Mick were bombarded with requests for a release date. ( Non of use knew what people were talking about until we saw the magazine.)

Some not all as there's more than is reasonable to have floating around waiting to be moulded. Without risking loss or damage.
What stays for the first wave of casting once I've seem Simon and Mick.

Well some is better than none. I hope the tribals get cast at some point soon too. I even bought statuary for those. Plus those round huts you did will suit the tribals aethetic wise.

Cheers Chaps  ,
After a conversation with Lon, I was reminded that somewhere in my workshop are the Kriegspeilers I sculpted four nearly five year's ago. Due to a comedy of errors they were never given the knod of approval.  Shortly After Adrian passed away, Then it just never seemed an appropriate time to mention them.
As Lon's a member I'm going dig them out ,and give them a little tlc. Then sculpt another Lon dress as fu manchu. To even up the numbers ( I can't remember if I sculpted eleven or thirteen members. But I know it was an odd number because not every member was in the photos. )
It won't be until the end of the month or early March as I'm double busy.
The don't as of now have a casting home. I'm Simply going  to tweak them for fun and go with the flow.
So fun I'll post some pictures when I know how they've faired in storage.

Typical I've not even seen them   ::)

I've already had the usual grumblings (from I suspect fanboys of a bigger manufacturer shall we say.)
But if all they can find to complain about is .They've all got the same weird over sized faces.
When you've made a bunch of cultists wearing face masks. Then it's a win in my book. lol
As I mentioned I've not seen them.Which means I'm not going to get paint on them any time soon. So I'm quite looking forward to seeing how you both interpret them when you colour them in.
( it's the most interesting part .Seeing what other people make of them.As nine times of ten it gives me new ideas to move things along.)

lol I don't worry about things like that.

I've had people stamp their feet at me at shows because it wasnt commercially viable to sculpt what they wanted. Shouting" I bought World of tanks for this!"(Simon and Mick thought it'd be funny to send this chap looking for me at the show. Even though I've retired form Psychiatric nursing it appears I'm still wearing a homing beacon.)

It was simply amusing that his only criticism was everyone had the same face .When they're all  supposed to be minions in a cult wearing identical cult masks. ::)

Once upon a time (a long time ago in a galaxy far far away...) I did.  But sadly in terms of being a local gamer, I'm not.

I'm sure things are much different in many respects from the early '70s, but at the same time, many things are likely still the same.  When I was stationed there, you could depend on phones working, but not properly, any time we had a (daily) good rain.  Calls would connect, just not to the number you dialed.  The roads were built with crushed coral in the mix that when wet (during the regularly scheduled daily rainfall, as well as during storms) the roads would be almost as slick as ice from the seepages from the coral.  We had huge frogs that sweated poison, and hordes of snails whose shells were bigger than a golf ball but not quite tennis balls.  There was one stretch of road going up the hill to where I lived which every night would be (for some strange reason) a massive amount of said snails crossing the road.  Sounded like driving over eggshells.  Next morning, the seagulls would eat to their heart's content.  That night?  Another crossing, similar results.  Repeat.

I think we had one of the first quadrophonic broadcasting radio stations.  We had, at the time, the world's largest McDonalds.

The last Japanese soldier surrendered just a few months before my arrival.

And without trying to explain to folks who have not been there, there were lots of OOG (Only on Guam) stories.

John

Speed painting some cultists for this weekend's game.Theyre no oil painting .But they'll do until I've got time to tweak them.

They're not as tidy as I'd like. But they're coloured in enough for now.
Mind you the Mrs face was a picture when she walked into the living room to find me looking at the underside of rug with a miniature and paint brush in hand.
"Do I want to know?"is all she said as she walked through.
In pretty much the same tone as the "what are you thinking of using that for now?" comment I get when I'm looking at something when we're out shopping.
It's tone that only a married man with many years under his belt knows, and is beyond the comprehension of a bachelor.

Thanks Guy, I would so much call it a style as a minimalist approach borne of necessity. As the majority of time I don't actually use my workshop. As we've always got a meteor sized chunk of life dropping on us at some point or another in the week.
I tend to paint and sculpt from an arm chair in the living room with everything piled on a folding sidetable. I honestly can't remember the last time a I sat at a desk or table to work. Which is even more wounding as I've two of them in my workshop.
When it comes to painting I'll throw enough paint in roughly the right places. So they pass at arms length. Then and if time allows I'll go back and add a little here or they're. ( infact I've just recently tweaked and rebased my Marauder giant and that's been painted for years! Similarly with the Empire Griffin  I only painted that a year ago,and I've revised it with a few more highlights. )

The idea behind the Cultists is something that'll  sit just as comfortably in the European countryside as Egyptian, East Africa,Afghanistan, and India.
Plus by doing masks it mean that any figure can have an association to the cult simply by virtue of wearing a mask.
That's why I've done a set of separate heads some with turbans but most without. Plus a set of figures just wear masks.

Andy, ear buds and hands free phone calls have turned a walk down the street into a minefield. No longer do we magnets, have the luxury of a long range warning of incoming  ;)

These look brilliant. They are fantastic sculpts and they've painted up very nicely.

Painting mojo is a little lack lustre at the moment.  But it's coloured in roughly in keeping with the theme.
