Title: Thomson and Thompson
Post by: 2010sunburst on August 30, 2021, 11:30:04 AM
Hi there
First off, a disclaimer.  Not sure if this is the right board, so can mods please move it if I have posted in the wrong place….
Right, a friend of mine on a modelling site I frequent is building a series of Tin Tin aircraft in 1/72nd scale.  He would like to have Thomson and Thompson standing next to, or even sitting in, his Hawker Hart, but doesn’t know where to get figures.  A couple of figures in bowler hats will suit I think, but I have looked at some 20mm manufacturers and at plastic soldier review, and cannot find anything suitable in 20mm.  Either metal or plastic will be fine.  Does anyone know where I could source them?
Thanks in advance
Tim

No worries. Better here as it's a general question rather than a specific request  :)

In that scale I'd say HO Model railways would be the best source to root through.

Thanks for the input TSG.  I’ve looked through the sources I know of, but can’t find anyone wearing bowler hats.

Dapol , Langley, and Merritt( public services  set) all have civillian sets with figures with either bowlers or porkpie hats ( especially seated) that could be gently sanded into a bowler.
Mike,
Those won't work they're specifically ment to fit that car besides I made them in 28mm ;)

Preiser also had some civilians sets in 1/72 and HO.

Thanks guys.  I’ve looked at the Preiser stuff, but they are continental figures, and bowlers are really English.  I’ll have a look at the Merit stuff, Dapol don’t have anything suitable.  As to Langley, I forgot them.  They used to do a range of Victorians as I remember, but they were very stiff and spindly, still, nothing to lose….

Not my usual area of thought but

This:

https://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?t=15450

looked to 00 scale  in regards to creating them, and used Dapol accordingly to achieve his ends using the forman figures/ headswaps

Specifically:

"For the two twins I have dragged out a set of Dapol railway workers as the Forman is wearing a bowler hat and suit and by swapping some heads around I should be able to make the twins in slightly different poses."

Readily available via the e bay etc

Many thanks Tactalvanic, that looks just the thing!
Thanks Digits, the Hardies stuff is good to know about.  However, I think Tactalvanic has the prize on this one.  Excellent work by all though, cheers team!
