Awful!!!
Have you had your eyes tested recently?!
Ok
They look passable in a certain light
You've nailed it. They look awesome. If they've got puttees you could mix it up a bit and have wooden furniture on their SLRs. Both butt and stocks for early cold war and even a mix for later. I think I had wooden stocks right up until we changed to SA80.I don't know about the Army, but in the RAF we had VERY occasional wooden-stocked SLRs issued from the armoury until the 90s, as you say. Probably fewer than 1% of the total though.

Answer me this then as I still wonder about it even today. I used an SLR with both wooden and plastic furniture, my groups were appreciably tighter with the wooden furnitured rifles, why? One marksman told me the wood was more 'forgiving' of recoil, another said that's daft!I found that I was equally as bad with all of them. :D
30 years after first letting fly with the SLR I had another go, and still shot better with a wooden stocked rifle?
Obligatory wargames bit... the DPM on the figures is cracking!???
Cracking job again mate, I've got the Charlie Gs to be getting on with as well.

I get that same wide-eyed look of horror from my figures when I approach them with a brush too! (Great tutorial, thanks.)

Gorgeous! Dunno what it is but that pair of bailed out tankies reminds me of leaving the Serjeants Mess at two in the morning.Hopefully without the drawn pistol...
