Hi Guys
Can anyone please tell me who does 28mm Macedonian Phalangites , with Horizontal Pikes ??
I saw a nice phalanx a while ago , with some and they looked great.

You'll probably want to find metal suppliers for that stuff.
Victrix does them all vertical from what I've seen, and Warlord's sit at an angle for some, but many are vertical.
Foundry does some with the pike lowered to horizontal positions - you'll have to get wire spears though unless they supply them!

The Foundry ones are very good. Some have greaves, which one would probably hope to see in a front rank. Also they have some with pike at 30 degrees to the vertical, which look good for third or fourth ranks.

Warlord have some that are low, but not horizontal. I believe Old Glory have some with lowered sarissas, but I don't have any myself. The other ones I can think of are probably too old to be what you're looking for.

I'd recommend the Foundry figures already suggested. I prefer a nice attacking pose. Everyone else is surrendering and should get morale penalties in the game for their defeatest attitude. ;) The Foundry figs are quite old now but sculpted by the talented Mark Copplestone, so they hold up very well.

The pikes are not quite horizontal, so they don't impact too badly even when units are pushed together. I also bent the rear arm a bit on some of mine to vary the weapon height and make the Phalanx look less regular.

One suggestion is I am very glad I took was to use Nylon instead of metal rods for the pikes. I bought a broom head and cut off the bristles, then squashed one end with pliers and cut to a point. Not only is it cheaper than using metal but you will stab yourself less and lose less 'pinged off' pikes as they bend if caught. Trust me on this, I'd used needle sharp brass or steel rods for years and am a total convert.

Agreed, I do the same broom bristle trick. Plastic sarissas break immediately, and metal ones are actually dangerous lol

Foundry and Old Glory have them as stated above. Another range that has multiple poses of phalangites was Vendel, now available as Thistle & Rose on Facebook.

I personally like the lowered pikes (my first wargames army was old Minifigs 15mm Macedonians) but with a ground scale of 1cm representing 10metres the enemy always pull up 20-30m in front of the phalanx lol

I think I am edging towards the Aventine Miniatures.6 ranks deep first 3 ranks 45 , & 3 ranks vertical .
Having thought about it the horizontal Pikes for very large units ( 60 men ) may be a step to far .
I have seen some wonderful units / dioramas made , but the unit is based so very very deep to acomadate the pikes ..
It may be worth some playing around with .
Does anyone know if the Foundry Phalangites match aventine?

That would be an impressive looking unit. I don't have any Aventine figures to compare but the foundry ones are quite a decent size, so I'd have thought they would mix okay. Maybe wise to get a few to check before buying those kind of numbers though.

Foundry and Aventien are a reasonable match for size, but the styles are a little different. I don't mix them.
