Just a quick plug for the new DWMG Facebook Group - aimed at servicing all your tabletop Doctor Who based needs.

For those not familiar with DWMG - it's a free ruleset based on the classic BBC series. A 64 page rulebook, scenarios (both classic and new Who) can all be found here:

Here's a couple of pics from my UNIT vs Sea Devil game to whet your appetites:

You have an oil rig....!? :o
That's brilliant. How is it constructed? :-*
-
Great stuff Uti. I've been ogling the oil rig for some time. :-*
I can highly recommend the DWMG rules. A club member is heavily into it and has also run participation games at shows. They very nicely capture the feel of a Dr Who episode with a great sense of fun.
I wasn't wandering the streets. I was merely contemplating certain local cartographic anomalies
-
Wow... fantastic terrain. :)
-
Cheers Guys!
The Oil Rig was a comission built by Darren Couch of Black Knight Studios http://black-knight-studios.co.uk/ (http://black-knight-studios.co.uk/)
It started off as couple of the modular buildings on top and then went from there.
I'd like to use it in a DWMG participation game if anyone is interested!
-
DWMG is my second-favorite set of skirmish rules ever, yes.
-
Ha! I've just done something I swore I'd never do and joined Facebook.
It'll end in tears, mark my words :(

My work here is done :) And many thanks!
-
Ooooo, nice table. :)

I'm a big Doctor Who fan. Used to catch the show on PBS (Public Broadcasting Station) late at night... about a year or two after they came out in the UK.
I think I'm too stuck in zombies and PA gaming to make a switch now.
But that oil rig and the professional look to the rules and the miniatures and the love of the genre MIGHT force me over.
That and a life-sized living & breathing clone of Rose.... sigh.... :-*
-
Warren - You are in luck, the life size Rose if planned for a future supplement!!
Go on - download the rules and let us know what you think!
-
I have see the pictures once bevore in the net .
I am amazed that stuff is so fantastic ! I wish I can get you to the tactica show because that terrain it is a real show stopper .
very ood work.

-
Ahhhhh Rose Tyler (my fav) :-*
-
Grimm - I'd love to come! It would be a great chance to meet you and maybe some of the other LAFers :)
However, I'm not sure how easy it would be to transport the rig all that way though?
I'll speak to creator Graeme Dawson and see what he thinks, as we are considering taking DWMG to some shows, but budgets are a bit tight at the mo, so it may make it difficult.
What do you think? Is there much Who interest in Europe?
-
You are in luck, the life size Rose if planned for a future supplement!! - as Wayne & Garth would say... "SCHA-WING!" lol
download the rules and let us know what you think! - Reading 'em now.
-
That's just .... magnificent! :o :o :o
Joined and downloading. :D
-
Many thanks to all!
-
very ood work.
Grimm
Grimm - that is either a great Dr Who pun or a lucky typo. Either way lol
-
Gluteus Maximus you are right lol you know I have good typo skills ;)
Grimm - I'd love to come! It would be a great chance to meet you and maybe some of the other LAFers
and we wish to see you :D
but you are right transport the rig is a problem :?
If you wish to come without a board than I can pick you up with my car at the airport or main station and drive you around for the weekend .
That is all I can do .

Can't wait 'till you guys add the Torchwood crew with Captain Jack, his "cannot be killed power" might be unbalancing.
Plus it'll give me time to find miniatures for all of them!

The thing with Jack is that when he's "killed" it usually takes several minutes or even hours for him to "get better". This could be covered by a random dice roll, or with the severity of his wounds factored in - eg pistol shot add two turns to the score, Dalek exterminator add 10, or whatever. You may get him back in a few of moves or have to wait for the next game - assuming, of course, he isn't captured in the mean time.
This should help to stop him becoming too powerful in the game.

Whats everyones take on the DW micro universe figures?
-
:'( How could you! How could you remove :-* Rose Tyler :-* from the rulebook? >:(
-
Warren - sorry!!
It's true, the core rules currently lean toward the classic series.
However, you'll see Rose and the first three series of New Who well represented in Bad Wolf, Welcome to Torchword and The Last of the Time Lords supplements all available to download from here:

Whats everyones take on the DW micro universe figures?
They're made of soft bendy plastic so are likely to flex a bit, however that does make it easy to remove them from the integral base if you want to
Comparing them to metal figures they are very slight in build (especially the characters) and the detail is rather lost under the quick factory paint jobs
However, the figures like the slitheen, werewolf etc are quite serviceable!

You can also make very passable Whovian figures with the cut-up and pasted-together remains of various Clix singles in the discount bin.
I made a David Tennant doctor from The Question's body with I think astro-boy or wonderboy's head. It sorta worked; more so after I painted the shoes as red converse.

Foggy, I swear you must be Frankenstein reincarnated!! :o lol

I got them, Uti. Thanks. I retract my lack-of-Rose complaint.
Wasn't something said about a living, breathing, 1:1 scaled clone in a future supplement? ;D

I did the same thing! Cosmic boy I think....

Do let me know if you're taking the DMW goodness out canterbury way, I downloaded the rules and bought a whole load of DMW goodies but haven't got around to playing anything yet...

But sometimes he stays dead long enough to be buried - and then might not be back for a thousand years.....
-
myincubliss - I'm in Gravesend, so could quite easily do a game...
Backyard - I'll pass this on about Cap'n Jack. Or better still - join the the Facebook or Yahoo Group (if you haven't already of course) and post it there.
Do you see what I did there. :)
-
Joined the facebook group last week, and the Yahoo group today!
I'm really impressed!

Captain Jack (the original version) was covered in the 'Bad Wolf' supplement, page 7. The new & improved (and immortal) Jack appears in the 'Last of the Time Lords' supplement, page 22. The latest version can be 'killed' although will usually return to play after a few turns.

We've got 100 members in a week, so thanks very much to all those that joined the Group! But don't be afraid to spread the love :)
I've added a picture inspired by the upcoming Key to Time release (which is shaping up nicely BTW) in way of a thank you. Feel free to post any pics yourself - the more the merrier.
