It's Hinawajū Day. On this day in 1543, tradition says that Portuguese traders arrived in a Chinese ship on the shores of Tanegashima and introduced the matchlock gun to Japan. Now, there were likely multiple means of transmission of matchlock technology, probably by wako and the like rather than all Japanese matchlocks descending from those brought by the Portuguese, but hey, it's nice to have a date. And therefore an excuse to collect all my 28mm hinawajū guys for a photoshoot in front of the Kunitomo Teppō (国友鉄砲) shop. Figures by Zenit-Kensei and Perry.
