I’ve been working on a human army for Oathmark.
First I’ll start with my Duke (using prince rules) and a Wizard.
Andres.
-
Next is the cavalry (Oathmark plastic kit) and a Militia, mainly built with Frostgrave plastic models.
-
Giant and ogres…
-
Looking good! That tartan cloak is great. I really like your gritty color palette.
-
Beautiful brushwork and colour scheme :-*
I was planning a similar red + white scheme myself, but now you've got me thinking about adding a dark teal too...
-
fantastic character.
-
They look really good!
-
Terrific stuff, I love the Duke figure. :-*
-
As said on FB, you have an awesome style. Great work on these.
That Duke has a moustache that would put a regiment to shame though.
-
Great stuff 8)
-
This looks a great army
-
The skin on the giant looks great!
-
I tend to find the Oathmark humans a little bit of a miss for me...but now I'm reconsidering. Love the grunge, and the colour scheme. Your main unit looks properly miserable.
-
Wonderfully battleworn and realistic. Really like your palette! Coincidentally I've just started an Oathmark Human army too with a similar red as my primary colour. I'll be following yours with a keen eye!
-
Nice work on the plaid.
-
I REALLY like the flautist. Where did you get her?
-
Thanks for all the encouraging comments.
I’m currently working on a Soldier unit that will act as bodyguards for the Duke. The first model is almost done.
The Flautist is a Frostgrave Sonancer.
-
Looking good
-
Som egreat figures there, and lovely paint jobs to boot. Keep up the great work
-
Nice
-
Really cracking work with the freehand patterns. Loving it.
-
Good effort on the tartan, not just the pattern but the muted tones too, it's never easy and you've pulled it off.
Cheers
Ry

After almost a year I’m revisiting this army. I finished painting the soldiers unit and also I had a couple of games… then I had a pause on the hobby (life, work, covid…) and to rekindle my will to paint I decided to sculpt a second giant. As the bigger scale and painting possibilities were a lot of fun. Hopefully this will also motivate me to sculpt a second unit of ogres and paint the three units I’m missing to complete 1500 points (15 archers, 5 cavalry and a heavy catapult).
Hopefully Northstar releases more humans next year… I really want to see some heavy units for the range.
-
So you can paint and sculpt!
That looks like a great start; can't wait to see where you'll be taking him...
-
That is looking great. Are you planning on painting tartans on the entire army!? Or just a few select characters?
-
Great stuff 8)

The first giant and the ogres are all full sculpts. My idea is to build a second unit of ogres but cast them before I paint them… but of course a giant got in the way.
About tartans the idea is that the clan’s color so everyone will use it here and there… this is a picture of the soldiers unit where everyone is carrying the colours of the clan :)
-
Wow. Just wow.
-
Absolutely love the super desaturated palette on this stuff. They look frikkin' awesome.
-
Yes, totally agree, that’s a great looking unit. The consistent palette, but with unique patterns gives a really good effect. I like your use of heads from other kits to add variety, too. Excellent work all around!

I need to echo this. Excellent! 👏🏻
-
Amazing work. I'd love to see more!
-
The giant got pants and teeth :)
-
He is really starting to come to life now. Great work!
-
I had some hobby time today to keep working on my giant/catapult
-
Lovely sculpting on the giant, I'm sure he'll be grand.
Your painting has really brought the Oathmark plastics to life.
-
Done with the body, no clothing and accesories…
-
So, I’m supposed to be painting, but instead I decided to sculpt a second giant and it has been a blast!
There are several details I need to keep working on to consider it finishe, but it’s getting there.
-
Loving the chops! He's a very dynamic chap.
-
Brilliant sculpting mate! 👍
-
He's fantastic. I think I prefer him to most of the commercially available giants. It's been fascinating to see him constructed in stages, too.
+1 for loving the mutton chops.
-
Only a few minor details left to do and now on a proper base to call it done :)
-
That’s one fine looking arrow magnet 😍
Beautiful sculpting 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
-
Awesome! 8)
I don't know what rules you play, but looking back at WHFB, I'd say you should sculpt a fallen giant as well... ;)
-
Impressive work sculpting the giants and on those tartans.
-
Instead of finishing the giant I got distracted with some sapper conversions and model selection… the sculpted helmets need more work. I still want to add 5 more, but one is a cargo mule, so only 4 spots to fill.
-
Painting and sculpting on this thread is amazing.
-
Just found this tread, and it's super! The army is overall a beauty, but the sculpting is really outstanding!
-
That giant reminded me instantly of Obadiah Hakeswill...and that's not a bad thing lol (head twitches to the left)

That's a great reference! Wish I did that on purpose ;D
Thanks all for the comments... I really need to get back to painting too...
Andres
-
Wonderful stuff, I am looking forward to some stunning battle reports with those guys!

Ooh; now that can't be unseen!
I'm loving the sappers. The heavily laden one on the left I have as well. He was intended to be a porter for a(n apparently pretty succesful) band of murderhobo's in a dungeon somewhere, together with some compatriots, but I found the miniature to be rather tall compared to the heroes he was to follow, so he now lives on Lead Mountain. He seems to work just fine here though!
Is the female smith type from Reaper too btw?

He is quite a big lad! I guess I´ll just assume he was a very well fed farmboy before joining the sapper corps :P
The female smith is a Bombshell miniatures mini, I've checked and it's not available in the site, so I'm thinking she might have been a KS exclusive. Patrick Keith was the sculptor and he has done a lot of stuff for Reaper, so the style is recognizable.

I could never match your sculpting but the way you did the patterns on the clothing is so natural-looking it has me peanut butter and jealous.

A long time ago I was painting some Celtos minis and I ‘discovered’ my tartan way of painting after looking at some other people doing it and thinking they were crazy.
I pick a base color, a neutral color (50/50 grey works with almost everything) and a contrasting lighter color. I picked red, grey and sand for this army. I paint the base color, then I do vertical lines (it depends on the folds of the fabric if they’re parallel or not), then horizontal lines. After that I do the same with the neutral color in between the previous lighter lines, cutting them. After that I wash everything in a wash as close as possible of the base color and that ‘blends’ the pattern.
Hope that helps!
Andres
-
Magnificent!
-
Thanks for the tartan method.
-
Great stuff, I'm very impressed by anyone who can sculpt, especially a whole giant.
The plaid looks really good as others have said. I'd like to see a picture of that whole human unit posted earlier but from the front.
-
Talking about getting distracted a little of threadomancy…
Giant is sculpted and I started painting it. I also painted a couple of models too. The idea was to paint an archer unit in June, but I’m late… got distracted by assembling and sculpting orcs and goblins, but I’m back into humans and getting a fully painted list.
Andres
-
The archers so far and an Oathmark.
-
Finally the Oathmark. I need two more, my previous one does not really fit the humans… hope you guys like the photodump :P
-
The new additions all look excellent! I like that your painting made each figure unique, but the consistent palette makes it clear that they are all part of the same army.
-
Great stuff 8)
-
The painting on the miniatures is excellent, of course.
But I especially like the Oathmark ( I didn't even know those were actual physical things in the lore). How did you go about creating it? Did you sculpt it out of foam perhaps?
-
Seconded on wanting to know how that Oathmark was made. It's a beauty.
So glad to see this thread active again; really great painting style and I LOVE the creativity throughout.
Have you given much thought to the lore behind your kingdom?
-
The Oathmark was sculpted in putty. I found a WIP photo
I have written some ideas about the Duchy ie my human kingdom… at least is unified in my head. Since I’m also planning a couple more armies for Oathmark I’m also adding their stories
-
So, proper sculpting, that!
Cheers for the WIP picture; this makes this an even nicer piece in my opinion... 8)
-
Excellent painting, and that Oathmark looks really good.
-
Today’s miniatures.
-
Your minis are looking fabulous - I really like the moustachioed fella!
-
WIP Giant. Not sure if I’ll ever field two, but eventually I’ll end up sculpting a third XD
-
Thats a lovely sculpt and it goes really well with the Oathmark humans, maybe its the sideburns that match the beards?
-
More archers. Think I need to do a pause to grab momentum again…
-
I finished my giant :)
-
Very nice!
-
That giant looks great. I would give him a wash to make him look filthy.
-
Nice work on that giant, the shields ties it together with the human infantry.
Still impressed by the tartans.
-
Now that the giant is done I’ve continued with the archers… two ranks done and I need one more to finish the unit. I’ll probably move to the cavalry I’m missing to wrap up the list and then it’s decision time… but I’m leaning into continue with the humans even if some orcs and goblins get in the way :P
-
Oh I like them a lot. The faces are very expressive, and the tartans really great!
-
The army is simply too gorgeous to abandon for some greenskins; I'd say carry on with these lads!
The archers are great additions again 8)

It's Oathmark, the humans and greenskins can be in the same army unlike several other games

I especially liked the illustration of the Orc-Human army attacking the dwarfs in the rulebook: I am going to team my orcs with some "historical" vikings for a similar look. Now I need an Oathmark compatible longboat.
-
So I assembled some orc/goblin troops and did some conversions and a shaman sculpt for the orcs. The Shaman was inspired in a GW mini, but the idea was to adapt the proportions to the Oathmark orcs.
BTW WGA also released a longboat in digital form.
-
Those orcs look great, I like the variety you have achieved with the conversions! I’m very much looking forward to seeing more (and these ones painted).
-
Yes, nice job on those orcses.
-
I discovered that I left this thread without updates for a while… I’ve finished my 2000 points human army list for Oathmark. As this is the army I’ve been more enthusiastic I have more stuff for it but it’s a good milestone.
So this are the two final units. Finally the archer unit is completed with 15 archers. Next is a cavalry unit. I need to test if it’s more convenient to have two 5-strong cavalry units or a single 10-strong unit. Same cost in points so we will see after some games.
On de Oathmark Discord server someone mentioned mounted Wizards… and I didn’t have one, so I kitbashed one. Next post I ‘ll upload the army pics.
-
Excellent work on the archers and cavalry, they look great! The varied plaids add a lot of visual interest. That wizard kitbash is also great, I’m looking forward to seeing him painted. Just curious where the giant bird skull on his staff came from- I don’t think I have seen any of those before.
-
The bird skull is from the GW skull set. It has a lot of variety and it’s hard plastic.
Andres
-
Thanks for the information. That’s a cool way to use one of the skulls.
-
Lovely conversion work on the orcs and the wizard. I like the orcs riding horses too...never seen that before, looking forward to seeing them painted.
-
This all looks most excellent. Looking forward to whatever comes next.
-
So this is the 2000 points army photos… I still have a couple of characters (that includes the mounted mage), a spearmen unit, another archer unit, max engineers and a chariot to paint for the humans… but I’m doing my best to get distracted.
-
Great work! An army to be proud of. I salute you! 🫡
-
The painted orcs… I’ve finally settled on the colors I’ll be using so next is to grab a unit and start painting.
-
I like those kitbashes a LOT! Brilliant job on those, I had to look closely to figure out where the donor parts were from and the blend is really smooth. The colours and basing suit them well, too. Very much looking forward to seeing more!
-
Your orcs are looking very promising and the shaman scuplt is really good.
The human army is great, very well done.
-
The last orc kitbash (for now) and a quick Barghest paintjob. I still have a couple of monsters missing to complete an Oathmark bestiary.
-
Gorgeous human army - and it looks like the orcs are off to a great start!
-
The new figures look great! I don’t recognize the barghest model, where’s it from?
-
I know I've already complimented you on this lot over on Discord, but it's great to see them on LAF (mostly so I can drool over them on a big screen rather than on my phone). Top draw stuff, mate.
-
Brilliant Orc kitbashes! 👍
-
The new figures look great! I don’t recognize the barghest model, where’s it from?
The Barghest is a conversion of a two-headed dog that came in the Circle of Orboros plastic starter from Warmachine/Hordes. I removed the armor bits, used only one head and covered the mess with putty XD
-
Never would have guessed that, cracking conversion!
-
Yeah, I wouldn’t have guessed that either. It’s a slick conversion- I thought it was a stock figure, maybe from a board game or something. Great job! Of course, it’s pretty clear from your kitbashes that you’re handy with a scalpel and putty, so maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised that the barghest is a conversion.
-
Still amazing work!
Any chance of a shot or two of some special units you didn't put up individually earlier? Like the musician or other character figures?
-
I believe I’ve missed photos of this wizard… when I was a kid I always wondered what adventures the two Blue Wizards from Middle Earth had… so my wizards sre going to be blue.
-
Wow! I wandered in here and now I am so glad that I did as the work is fascinating. Amazing sculpting and painting, thank you for sharing and I hope this thread continues.
-
I like your blue fella. Something about his pose is quite endearing, too. He looks like a real chilled-out, laid-back wizard.
Maybe that's why we never found out what the Blue Wizards did. They just chilled the whole time and didn't do anything. :)

'Blue wizard, blue wizard! there are orcs at the gate!'
'Tell it to the hand soldier, I'm on my tea break.'
I've also just noticed that you could quite easliy swap out that enormous bone for a guitar on that orc shaman.

I should’ve changed the fingers of the orc shaman to look like a proper chord :D

This Blue Wizard started as a Victrix Saxon monk… maybe that’s why he has a more serene pose :P

I haven’t posted in a while, but the Oathmark armies keep moving… I assembled some elven cavalry and that means a lot of points in elves… but I wanted a palette cleanser and monsters are great for that… I painted a dragon and a Wraith for Oathmark. I was about to paint a Vampire, but instead I decided to sculpt some ogre units… don’t know if I’ll post in here the WIPs or I’ll just go with the final pics, when all is done.
-
That dragon came out GREAT!!! Who makes it? :-*
-
Yeah, that dragon is excellent! I like the glowing effect, like it is radiating heat. The wraith is quite good, too.
-
Great work. I particularly like the Blue Wizard.

The dragon is a Dungeons & Lasers model. Hard plastic, really nice model to work with. Thanks for the comments :)
