Title: B troop 25 years on - a bit of Nostalgia
Post by: valleyboy on October 25, 2021, 09:56:24 AM
What a difference 25 years makes when an old rule set is re-published -as highlighted in more detail on the blog, https://valleyboyinnz.wordpress.com/
The old cards served me well and now the terrain needs updating but I'm really pleased to have acquired the re-published version of B troop ain't coming back from Baccus

There's a bit of work to do in rebasing and most importantly getting a decent base cloth finished along with tarting up that old fort that travelled from the valleys of South Wales to NZ 22 years ago!

They get a bit of a caning, reviewed in this month's Wargames Illustrated. Not enough done to clean up the 'clunkier' bits, according to the reviewer?

"They get a bit of a caning"  Not surprised, bought the new set of the rules with cards and while very nicely presented, really nothing new and nothing changed.  Of course, we were all warned that was the case, so not complaining.

While the rules in question inspired my MASSIVE collection of Old West figures - and Pony Wars, too - I have opted to rework an old set of Tom Dye Minifigs/GFI rules called Bite the Bullet.  Especially because I want one core set of rules for many different things.  Lot of work yet to go.  But at least the miniatures are moving forward in getting painted.

I suspect a lot of the more well known Old West rules took some inspiration from Bite the Bullet - and perhaps some of the oldest may have inspired BtB.

Still debating how to at least use the cards.  Might pinch some things from the rules.  At least the new version of the rules is much more readable.
