Quick version: I took a break from my larger project (a dungeon crawl game) to design a fun quick project - namely a fantasy/medieval skirmish game. A fast, frantic, silly game. My buddy who currently has a massive hardon for Necromunda was asking if I'd consider writing my old west rules (Shoot N' Skedaddle) for the Necromunda setting. I told him that was waaaaay too much work and would be a massive project. Then the light bulb went off while we were playing the new fantasy skirmish game. Translate that to a post-apocalyptic game. Boom.
So...yes I'm designing two other games while taking a break from designing one game (logic). This as-yet unnamed project we jokingly refer to as Notcromunda, but it's really just a post-apocalyptic gang fighting game...suitable for any setting. Mad Max, Judge Dredd, etc.
Both of us had been thoroughly unimpressed with GW's relaunch of Necromunda so he's been stoked to have a reason to use his models and he's been painting up a storm and building a lot of terrain. I've started collecting a small assortment of Orlock gangers and building them.
A cyber-doggo.

Proper gang lads.

The joy here is that the rules are setting/model agnostic, so we can have a lot more fun and diversity in models and kit-bashing. No silly limits like Necromunda has become notorious for in its latest edition. I will knock out another 8-10 minis so I can have some options.
Some pictures from games lately. Credit for the table goes to my buddy. It's nice to not have to build something for once!

Looks ace, love the scenery!

Those Orlock mods are cool, and that is a really nice looking table.
-
A few more models finished. Played a few games over the last week but I always forget to pull out my damn phone and take pictures.
Some scenario markers and objectives:

I like Dapper Dan; might have to filch that idea!
-
Nice work figures and scenery both.

Dang it mate, yet again you are making me like something I was not originally keen on. I love the aesthetics of your work.
-
Just paint everything brown man. That's the key... lol
-
As per everyone else that looks spectacular.
I will be making a close copy of your objective markers in the very near future.
-
lovely work on the figures.
and that's one cracking table your chum's made.
-
Yeah the objective markers are handy. In this game it's a post-apocalyptic setting (we happen to be playing in Necromunda) and there's a component to gaining experience which includes grabbing loot. It's nice to have identifiable markers.
We played a wild game last night with two large gangs and a responding 'Arbite' force. I think we came out on top, kinda sorta...but it becomes a smash and grab when people start getting blasted with melta-guns and a ratling punches several holes in an Ogryn's head with his lasgun.

Another game last night. Fun to have a quick and violent skirmish game that can be wrapped up in about 45 mins. to an hour. Makes weekday gaming more attainable.

Great looking figures and games!
Having a quick skirmish option available is always good. Big games are good, but need time!
-
These games have been some of the best/closest/most fun games we've played in a while. Every game has been a fun story and chock-full of mayhem. I'm taking a break from another batch of miniatures right now - having finished some for the fantasy version of the rules earlier today! lol
-
Not the best pictures, but some more gangers have been knocked out for the project.

Putting the sentry guns through their paces. Three games of notcromunda today. Using some old Chaos Hound stand ins (i.e. Dark Eldar beasties) for sump creatures.

Brilliant work mate, everything looks so atmospheric.
-
great stuff. love the thread title too. :-*
-
Sentry guns look really good!
-
Thanks, guys. The three games we did yesterday were the first ones where we put the "event" icon into play - and it was far more interesting. In this game you're drawing cards to see how many models your activate, etc. - but if there is an event icon on the card you resolve that first. A simple table lets you do all manner of nonsense, and in these games the sentry guns would automatically engage or sump creatures would show up.
Added a lot of third-party danger to a game where were already fighting each other. Using terminals on the table you could also try to hack and control the guns and use them on your opponent, etc.
When NPC's are on the table...they're free game to either player. So the sump creatures become valuable assets. You end up wasting activations trying to keep NPC's away from your guys - and use them to attack your opponent, while they're doing the same.
Overall, excellent games and very hectic, violent, silly and full of mayhem.
-
everything about the miniatures & terrain is outstanding
very nice! :)
-
A few more minis before the year is out.
Sorry for the poor photos.

Something about the way your miniatures are painted is very effective. Somehow you make them look both clean and grimy at the same time. And the colours are muted and very visibly. It is a lovely technique.
I am thoroughly impressed.

Yes, that is an excellent point. I quite agree.
-
I thought the same thing. Nice clean painting, with that worn, faded look. Very nice. I need to learn how to paint like that.
-
Thanks guys. I think it's just a combination of my love for desaturated colours (with the exception of a highlight colour like the turqoise lenses, etc.), and I use Army Painter dip on most of my miniatures which give them a sepia tone in addition, etc.
Debating what to build today, might sneak in a few more gangers or go with some fantasy. We shall see.
-
Love the mini's they look great I just wish I could paint as well.
-
Trying to take advantage of some good weather to prime and paint a handful more miniatures before the new year. Knocked these out last night while watching Lucky Number Slevin.

Forgot I snapped this pic for a buddy - my "force" so far. The game we're playing, Scrapheap, can be played with 4-5 minis a side in many instances, so it's nice to have a wide variety to choose from. I have another...eight(?) bodies on hand so I will eventually fill those out, and have several NPCs I'll need to construct.

Stellar looking mate!
-
Great figures on nice terrain, a veritable feast for the eyes.
-
Thanks, it's been a whirldwind. My buddy and I started playing, then stumbled into some 40K players looking for something different, and then it's become "let's play Scrapheap" constantly. Must avoid burnout... :D
-
So you have a sci-fi version, too? Please let us know if and when you have playtest rules available for the public :D
-
If I may ask a process question, how are you getting such a nice fit with those Mechanicus heads on Orlock bodies. I am trying to work this conversion and the fit is extremely poor. Any advice would be much appreciated!
And thanks for this thread--very inspiring!
-
I definitely had to trim down the necks in some instances, and occasionally file off the bottom of some of the head/neck joins, etc. They're not particularly clean fit in some cases. Just enough to look the part. Also certain bodies have wider jacket collars than others (slightly) and are more amenable. I think I've also shortened the necks for almost all of them.
-
In Scrapheap, gangs can hire up to one "Monstrosity"...i.e. a big hulking creature, robot, etc. So I snagged a box of Ogryns to split with my nephew and built up "Lucky Number 13" (because he's the 13th miniature of 2022...). He'll be an Ogryn for hire for my Orlocks or the next Outcast gang I'll be assembling as a religious order.

Yep, it all looks great.

That Ogryn is ace. It could easily be a big robot as well. Loving it.
-
He looks good. I like the colours.
-
That's a great looking big fella. Also, 13 figures already this year! I'm quite jealous of your productivity ;) (I'm only at five so far - and they were simple critters).
-
A couple of bigger four-player games today.

They are Ratlings though from what i remember ;).
Love the table set-ups you have in your games.

Tables are especially impressive.

I had quite forgotten that around a year ago my buddy had mailed me a sprue of the silly Necromunda "Corpse Grinder" cult or whatever they are. No interest in them as a gang, but I found the sprue so I'll use it for some Chaos guys or some NPCs. I whipped up a Pit Fighter for fun.

great-looking board.
-
Some great new additions to your collection. My favorite is the guy with staff.
-
Loving what you're doing with these figs. About the time the last of my classic necromunda gangs was finished the new edition came out and I haven't gotten up the interest to play the new one even after buying a few of the early books which seem to have now been superceeded by new books and new gangs and new....
Any word on when your scrapheap rules will be out? I absolutely loved playing a mini campaign a few years back with the NCE Version of Necromunda from Yaktribe, but I doubt there'd be much interest in folks playing that now.
-
All I can say is it'll be out this year, lol. I took a break from my dungeon crawl (burning out after two years straight of working on it)...and I decided to relax by designing a fantasy skirmish game....during the middle of which my buddy wanted to play Necromunda without playing Necromunda.
So...like an idiot, I'm now working on both games simultaneously, but the core concepts are done, the decks/tokens have been designed, it's just a matter of playtesting it a lot and then typing up the proper rule book.
Without tooting my own horn, it provides an exceptionally fun game thus far. A lot of classic Necromunda "feel" with more interesting dice mechanics. Gotta put the campaign through its paces, but both the fantasy and post-apocalyptic gang versions are really enjoyable thus far. People pick it up quick, and it manages to create a compelling story within the game itself, which is pretty cool.
Will post more here as we're about to start some trial campaigns.

Some cracking figures there, staff guy is my favourite too (what's the base figure?), but I also really like the Mk III helmet on the Corpse Grinder.
-
The staff guy is one from a variety of Etsy 3D printed figures I picked up from....Resin Munitorum? They have several NPC packs suitable for Inquisitor style warbands.

I have the sword, but don't think I'll be adding it.

A few more models for the game...a variety of NPCs and companions.

Some more sweet painting there, and thanks for the Etsy link - I'll file that for future reference.
-
Some awesome figures there: I really like the servitor...and the ambassador..and the inquisitor...and the missionary! Are they all from Etsy?
-
Yep, other than the "Predator" and the dog, the latest guys are all from Etsy. Red Pilgrim sculpts, bought from Resin Munitorum. They're not the finest 3D prints I've received (some layer lines visible), but they're around $20 for 4-5 minis. Minis you'd pay $15-35 each from someone like Games Workshop, so I can't complain.
I have another eight figures drying from dip at the moment. For some reason the last two cans of dip I've had require a week to dry instead of overnight...not sure why and it's been killing my pacing, but it is what it is.
-
Since I have old 40K Chaos cultists on hand, I've decided to bolster them into a full faction for gang use...so I've added four more converted Chaos Beastmen from the Blackstone Fortress box, and another converted Corpse Grinder Cult model...into a bad ass Chaos champion.

Fantastic, both the figures and terrain. Can't wait to see what comes next.
-
TT Combat do some great, very reseasonably priced terrain for Necromunda. It was that stuff as much as anything that was tempting me to get into the game recently!
-
This is not my taste in subject but the overall quality of scenery, figures and painting is outstanding - well done. :-*
-
I totally missed this thread for some reason, but it's absolutely awesome! 8)
I'll make sure to keep following it now; the painting, conversions and terrain are all simply top notch...
-
They look grand Elbows, more power to you, keep them coming.

Thanks guys, hope to have some more stuff posted here later this evening! lol What's not shown behind the scenes is the obscene amount of time spent writing the damn rules...(yaaaawwwwnnn).

Those recent posts are spectacular. Your work really captures the variety and feel of Eisen-Inqui-Grimdark.

A bunch of games of Scrapheap yesterday. Good news is we're to the point of finalizing rules and making tweaks, so it's running well.

Cliff's Notes:
-One year ago, I built a bunch of TT Combat 'Zone Mortalis' terrain for a buddy in trade for some goods (terrible decisions, tons of work)
-I play some Scrapheap on my buddy's TT Combat board and think 'Man, I'd like to get a set, but I don't want to build more of that crap'
-I contact the other buddy whose stuff I built a year ago - it's sitting in a garage, more or less unmolested.
-This happens:
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgt4iWNmygqTbY8S69kLh-7WVlvFvXBNKXeLByHhIsNsd_weQQN9Qcd99Id5fngVAAUYd6j2hHzv8uRsmjvP9HvA1Q1pAYWcCezCKFXjEtYFocOh4EMF7EMKKc0EUzeqFiJP_AQnYJ9vPGBSCaLQw9lm9j0MRfTPvN6DdO5mM2cuS4D42jX8fF3ec7t3w/s4096/IMG_20220525_210045031_HDR.jpg)
I'll need another set or two and a suitable mat (or I may paint up the boards under this test set-up). I picked up the unused stuff, painted and detailed it over two days more or less, and now have a suitable 2'x3' mini table for skirmishes. Makes a good alternative setting to the normal tables I play on.
-
When you say it's a ton of work ... that concerns me. I've been eyeing a set of the TT Combat stuff, and generally heard nothing but 'It's a great buy for the price.'
Does this mean you don't recommend it?
-
TT Combat, in general is pretty superb. Best price, free shipping over 100 pounds sterling for international customers, etc. However, this particular stuff, the 'not Zone Mortalis' stuff is massively annoying/time consuming to build.
The junction columns (i.e. the staple that all the other pieces attach to) are each...20 separate pieces of MDF. I'm not exaggerating, that's the actual count. So that's twenty pieces you have to cut out, sand, and glue. For one piece.
Now, by comparison the other pieces are quite simple; but make no mistake this is not a quick build. It might be easier if you had a couple of dudes sitting around building it together. It may also be faster if you don't sand the parts you snip, etc. But it's a lengthy process. Now, couple that with the fact I was building it for a buddy who I knew would never paint or play on it...and you can see why I was not enjoying myself.
My buddy actually has two times as much stuff as is pictured for his board...but simply quit halfway through because of how time consuming it is to build. Having now painted and played on his stuff he's motivated to finish it, though.
It's been a year since I built the other stuff, so I think I could manage building a bit more, but even now I'm not looking forward to it. :D I also believe that most other MDF options for this kind of stuff are similarly time-consuming.

The terrain from this company is very nice.

Might be of interest to you and others.
This company also do some very nice terrain.

Ah yes, now I get it. I love TT Combat stuff in general. As you said, cheap and I expect issues with it because of the price. I had some store credit somewhere and had been eyeing this setup. I don't really play a lot of 'zone' stuff, but figured ... meh, it's like free stuff, right? Glad I didn't buy it. I'd rather just wait for someone else to get annoyed with it and put it on eBay :)
Speaking of your buddy ... is he super tired of his stuff yet? :) :) :)
I also love this thread, by the way. Currently one of my favorites.
-
Hah, my buddy only painted his a few weeks ago, so we'll have to give him time. I think I am biased, since I built the stuff with no expectation of owning/using it. So, suddenly having it was a nice surprise. I'll see if my opinion is different when I buy a few more sets. Maybe building it, but knowing I'll be painting/using it, will change my mind.
-
Love the paint job, very spot on. And the set up is pretty decent looking like the little stairways scattered about. The only thing lacking (to me) is the elevated walkways, that's one of the things I liked about the old GW card/plastic bulkhead scenery from the old edition. But like I said pretty cool for what it is. Looking forward to seeing what you do further with it. Also, nice job on all the minis, great thread. Thanks for sharing.
-
I will actually be adding some of those. However, my "main" table is still exterior stuff - covered in walkways, bridges, buildings, etc. The new stuff will be used to represent larger structures, etc. Occasionally we treat the second level as tunnels or walkways ---- meaning you can't interact with the ground floor from above. This gives it more functional interest.
As it stands right now it also slots into one big plastic bin, making it a nice little "travel" option. I prefer bigger tables with crazier terrain, but this will be a cool way to run smaller games simply.
-
Interesting setup.
Are there cap pieces that can be placed over the pillars to add railings or somesuch and cover the "X's”?
It looks supremely useful, modular and well designed but as with the GW equivalent, it's stock assistance just doesn't read "Necromunda" to me. I still think of lots of elevated bridge walkways and towers as being quintessential Necromunda
Will be looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
-
I don't believe there are covers for the X's, as I don't think you're intended to use the top of the wall as a real walkway - though I have some TT Combat stuff planned that might work with it. While I'm kinda/sorta doing Necromunda themed stuff, the game itself features a number of "locations", so it's more of a generic post-apocalyptic gang setting.
I'll mostly use this set up for the 'Abandoned Tunnels' location or for scenarios based around the inside of a building, etc. Other locations include The Rad Wastes, The Bustling Bazaar, The Pile Slums, the Trader's Port and The Crawler, etc.
In theory our games are based around the idea of the greater 40K universe I guess. So it could also be used to represent the inside of a Rogue Trader's ship or something silly.
My "normal" Necromunda tables are more akin to this:
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhZNhsKTz_5dSFWwlmsU_cQhmW_sbEShutPctvId_5HK8ARbjBX0_WyO23-UhGHSSAGGa4BzBuIzIu8MhaP3siBDGhUgweLjWzrrUi0Lkuy-xJ23j8okN3AR5dUokCWQSipxB1y_0ih98V2ov4aY7CvOgUDNpgnUV3JJNmSEeP3FAaUcg6JSlcvaTMiMQ=s2048)
So between this, the new TT Combat stuff, my buddy's nice table, and his new Ash Wastes styled terrain (which I don't believe I have pictures of), we have a lot of varied environments over which to shoot at each other.
-
You have quite a few tables worth of nice terrain there Elbows with good versatility.
-
Yeah, if anything I'm in need of selling off some terrain. I have a whole new Old West town to do, and it's been sitting on a shelf for...six months? lol
-
Finally got around to doing some more Pendoshi pirate fellas. I also re-based and colour-modified an old Imperial Missionary I had sitting around - a model that I adore, and wanted to get some more use out of!
There's been more "behind the scenes" crap going on, but not a whole lot of hobby progress to post about here. I'm to the "boring" part of actually putting the rulebook and stuff together...which is dreadfully lame.

In associated news, I made a large order from TT Combat which should "finish" my interior table for Scrapheap.
-
Great work as always mate!
-
Some nice figures there. I especially like the chaps in the Admech helmets. And the missionary: what a great figure.
-
Picked up some aftermarket Servitors, painted up two of the three (don't like the third sculpt that much). Also a quick snap of the current magnetized bin where all this stuff is headed. It's missing a bunch of the Chaos cultists.

Stunning looking bases that top shot really shows them off.
-
I prefer the Necromunda ones, so I just picked up a mixed box of them. The Star Wars Legion ones are useful (and I found them locally for cheap), but they're harder to magnetize, and not quite as intricate.
-
Added a few GW pipes to my terrain, to help with scatter. Really useful. Painted to match the TT Combat stuff (which is getting reinforced this week, thankfully)

Pipes II: The Pipening

Also painted up a couple of cheap folding bridges I got from a Toy Soldier website. Since they fold, they should be fun to interact with terminals during the game, opening/closing them, etc.

What a fantastic thread! I'd somehow missed this entirely. Great painting and kitbashing, and the atmosphere's so thick that you could cut it with a rusty chainsword!
-
I've missed the last few updates. Some more cracking, and very inspirational, work there - both the figures and terrain.
-
Thanks, there's been a lot of junk going on in the background, just not quite enough to bother posting.
I sold my Gothic buildings to a local 40K player, and have gone full nuts on the TT Combat stuff, including two very large orders I'm now waiting on. One order includes all of their "stacks" terrain, so there will be a large slum city option. I've assembled and primed a bunch of fun stuff recently, but have been painting stuff for a secret project instead.
I received three PWorks neoprene gaming mats, sized 4'x4' for use with Scrapheap and Merciless. This one will be the primary Scrapheap mat:

awesome stuff you show here, and you realy motivated to paint some terrain and more Miniatures from my Necromunda pile.
I just scrolled through all the pages and the questioon might have been asked before but, what is your plan on releasing the rules?
If you have the need for someone to read through them and test I am more than happy to volunter ;-).
Please continue posting :-D
-
It's actually near-ish. I'm to the point of doing photos for the rulebook and finalizing some stuff. The card decks and tokens are done (and have been for some time). The rules are 98% done, and it'll be a PDF, so fixes will be applied when it reaches the wild.
I've been fortunate that this one has ticked a lot of my friends' boxes, so I've got a dozen people playing it routinely at the moment.

Knocking out some NPC models for the game...starting with some awful Mantic space zombies. Hated every second spent on these minis.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg561vRMW2Kd2zk2H4nK4SliInLzdmbdqjX8y5QOhks4_RxLVmoIj47-LAW6QtjY3nGKLbcOu-0zY3-Yt03rkWwb7EXLHWnl8_zBJRS8GclH-CE0H5UeCm7cAUS3EmD8-9UbWVb9XKyK-HDOOfEd8_s_kmdGrQy6iG4MC887dkEAe_GKR_WigiUH0U_Zw/s2048/Scrapheap%20Zombies.jpg)
For fun I also painted up some GF9 Xenomorphs (read: dry brushed). Almost like these models, but they have their issues as well. Just picked these up to occasionally play a fun ALIEN style game, or an ALIEN 3 scenario using Scrapheap.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjM7x0_dreL0p9Me3xlv9ljlNq4xMCXeb3nZJzkjz3cpRn_XsY4Mcqre3i_rry4RDbT3XLX9mqhL0d8pFvsA_nx1eCvaPPzlIlBC96afVmwZzUbdIXAl4SsUavl_bZtKY3iJ4wNQEJ5J6JzJLqgGuX-uxco05YP27ijUx7ZehfBhVdRFCKn7DiyUMvCoQ/s2048/Xenomorphs.jpg)
-
Issues aside, you made them both look good mate!
-
What an inspirational thread. How could I have missed this previously? :-* :-* :-*
-
Great thread! May I ask why you disliked the mantic zombies? Your paint job makes them look good!
-
Awful sculpts with awful options. A lot of detail that just disappears or is super-duper soft. Ugly heads (replaced some with Fireforge spares). Ugly proportions, etc. I should have researched them before buying - but they were cheapish, and I just needed sci-fi acceptable zombies.
-
Those mantic zombies were some of the first sci-fi models mantic produced, if I remember correctly. And they produced a lot. I have a small sprue that was from the Gencon swag bag from years ago. I think the models and molds are really starting to show their age, and some of them weren't the best plastic. That being said, I'm loving this thread, and I think you did a great job painting what Mantic gave ya...

A new 3D printed Ogryn so I can field one with a gun (which is...a terrible idea).

Ogryn looks great! With a ripper gun and a power fist he's ready for anything.
-
Been a while since I posted. Mainly been simply working on "behind the scenes" stuff for the games. Also working on a secret project that I'm keeping from a buddy so I haven't been posting any of it online!
I did get some more games of Scrapheap in on the new and improved "mega death tunnel maze".

Also made up a pit fighter Ogryn from the 3D printed Ogryn kit I picked up off Etsy. He doesn't photograph well, but he'll be a top challenger for Gangs who decide to visit the pit fighting arenas during campaigns.

Got some revised tokens en route for both Scrapheap and its fantasy sibling, Merciless. Should arrive later this week perhaps. Also placed another order for a bunch of 3D printed NPCs and characters.

I always wonder … with all the shooting taking place, are there any games that require a roll to make sure you don’t hit a critical conduit or cooling system by mistake and end up blowing up the whole facility, with them inside?
Are there critical sections of the facility where both sides limit themselves to melee weapons to avoid going boom?

I'd imagine in the delapidated garbage of the grim future..probably not. lol
However, "locations" are a key component of Scrapheap. Each location gives you random environmental effects, encounter tables, campaign benefits and a "dangerous atmosphere" which turns on and off. It helps make games play very differently even if you use the same scenario and scenery, etc.
-
Just some filler pics for the Scrapheap rulebook. Some may not make the cut, but fun nonetheless.

Tht's looking really good, I'll definately pick it up when released.

Brilliant! 👍👍

Found a 3D print on Etsy that I fancied. However, it was huge, so I bought the STL and had a buddy print it smaller for me. He sent me two, but one shattered in the mail...so...I may try to escue that eventually.
This is a "Wandering Machine" in Scrapheap, a rogue robot NPC that may appear in certain locations. Poor photos.

Gorgeous 😳😍

Oooh, that looks fantastic. In the photos it looks like he has an R2 unit on his back!

Been a while since I've painted anything for Scrapheap, but I've mainly been hammering on the rulebook to finish it and get it all published.
However...I did throw together four Reaper worms for use in a scenario I plan on running at Siege of Augusta coming up shortly. These are pretty big boys (about 60-65mm in height). Based on 50mm bases. Sadly, as has occurred with random Bones minis, the colour primer I used is still tacky on the models...I'd be pissed if they weren't simple to paint minis for a scenario.
As it stands I can just deal with the fact they're a bit tacky, but it's disappointing, regardless.
(https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR30rUuZspzdcdO6PYDccqBKE3dZDbrd6CrQQITkFpZnBHQLg7ngrLxfQ0XHt7kO1opfJiKe28WjS4KuF8pMpHa97mOQPyghceEldXpGeHnBuFQc_9914tjn3_YhpIYQ9h9wndgba7ULXuVlmZRA7DDNXJMafmyXQMRh-zoQiiitd4VNnPIulru1VXBQ/s2048/Waste%20Wyrms%20(1).jpg)

Amazing thread - I think your terrain and minis are spectacular! Keep the posts coming... :-*
Mike Demana
-
Thanks, Mike.
Most of the work lately has been rules and a ton of terrain (I just realized I haven't posted pics of any of that - maybe soon). I will snag some pics when I host the game at Siege.
-
Great stuff yet again 8)
Interesting to hear about tackiness on Bones models after spraying. I only had this happen to me once, and that was on a soft, cheap dinosaur toy; never had this issue with Bones myself.
And to think I have one of these very worms based and ready for paint in the Cabinet of Shame...
-
It happened on these worms (using Vallejo Hobby Spray), and I've had it happen on two Bones giants, all of them were not the Black or USA versions, just "basic" Bones.
However, weirdly the Vallejo beige spray on their undersides...not tacky. So just the green. I have plenty of other Bones figures which did not become tacky, so I have no idea what the real issue is. I had a buddy have a Bones thing go tacky when using Krylon black primer as well.
Doesn't seem to be much rhyme/reason to it.
-
The few bones figs I have painted, I have always undercoated them first by using thinned paint and a brush.
Everything else gets matt undercoat spray, but there is always something about the bones (and some 3d printed figs) polymers makes me uneasy to use spray paint on them. So I never do.
Glen
-
You managed to get such a wonderfull table full of life with your crews and NPCs, thanks for sharing ! :-*
-
Your stuff is fantastic read through and eye candy
the one thing I have found that helps with "tacky" bones - the original white stuff which I think must be down to whatever mix they did on the day its so random
Polyurethane Matt Varnish - got a bottle of Vallejo (27.651) some years ago mainly for use on the board game style plastic minis.
So added it to the bones routine, only ever finish them with poly matt varnish now, just in case - and that seems to resolve my tacky issues with them.
-
That is a fantastic thread! :o :o I just love the many pieces from other ranges.
-
Thanks for all the kind words...it's been a vastly more in-depth project than I ever intended, particularly considering it was a spin-off of the original project (Merciless, a fantasy version of the same game).
I was hoping to have it all done by Christmas 2022, but...I just suck, and the game testing kept going, and stuff kept changing. My goal for 2023 is publishing two new games, with Scrapheap being first and then...likely a dungeon crawl afterwards.
I find myself being complacent playing my games with my friends...and then my motivation to sit and type up 50 pages of rules diminishes and before I know it a month or two have gone by without me making solid progress toward releasing the damn thing.
Now I'm building a whole second table, bought another mat...etc. etc. So the whole thing is just far bigger than "A quick knock-off rule set so my buddy can play with his Necromunda minis". Fun fact, the guy who requested the game is no longer interested in playing! :D
-
I understand 100% how hard it is force yourself to write. In my opinion, forcing yourself to sit down and write creatively is one of the hardest jobs to do. I have so much respect for fiction, non-fiction, and prolific rules writers that can crank them out.
Gamers like us will always have something tempting us away from writing or publishing rules (some terrain, figs, something to prepare for a convention, etc.)... :'(
So, as a fellow rules author and publisher, I feel your pain...!
Mike Demana
-
I use Vallejos brush-on varnish after a few dramas with spray cans and sticky bones figures!
-
Took a while for me to catch up on this one. Love the Ogryn additions!
-
Well, after hating life (building so much MDF gets pretty old), I finally got around to spraying/painting up most of my MDF slumtown stuff from TT Combat. I have a new mat from Deepcut as well - will be running this combo for the first time at Siege of Augusta this upcoming weekend.

So, another full setting/area to run Scrapheap in.
-
You did it again Elbows… another great set of terrain! Loving it!
-
Thanks. In Scrapheap there are six locations you can play games in (with players encouraged to make their own as well). These areas have environmental conditions, location events, unique campaign bonuses, and unique random encounter tables. So, I'm trying to have enough terrain to play them all, and have a nice different table every now and then.
Who doesn't enjoy a post-apocalyptic favela?
-
Assembling the MDF buildings might have been tedious, but the end result looks great! I like that the scene you have put together is tactically interesting yet plausible.
-
I’ll join in: that table looks magnificent!
-
Very nice work on the terrain. They are nice sets and do take some time to build. One of the better TT Combat ranges released so far i think.
-
That's a great looking table. Should make for some very fun games.
-
Yeah, that table invites play, awesome.
-
I ran...four(?) games of Scrapheap at Siege of Augusta this weekend. Players seemed to enjoy it, though I had to throttle back the rules. There's a bit too much depth for something like a convention, I think.
Enjoyed having the table set up. I ran 13 games over the weekend, and guess who took...ZERO...pictures. Man, I'm good at this stuff. I often lament anyone sitting at my table futzing on their phone during a game, but I suppose...maybe I'm the opposite and should remember to take my damn phone out of my pocket once in a while.
-
I ran 13 games over the weekend, and guess who took...ZERO...pictures.
I have a friend who went to Siege of Augusta with his two kids. I'll see if any of them took pics of it. Anything in particular on the table that will make them say, "Oh, yeah! That one!" ??
Mike Demana
-
Nah, it's all good. I was in the dead center - ran my Old West game a bunch...then Scrapheap....then a Dungeon Crawl. I've been scraping together some pictures from the convention's group on Facebook. It's all good!
PS: There was a guy who played in the dungeon crawl and had two kids - so he may have even been your buddy!
-
Found a couple of pictures from the con.

Looks great! I hope the games went well...

Pretty good. The players seemed to have fun (though I had a couple quiet stoic types who I couldn't read!). It's a tough one to run at cons, because I had to trim down a lot of the rules (or just not mention them) to make it playable.
I think that's a critique of all my games - most are just a bit too crunchy (really) for convention play! But feedback was good, and I had some return players, so that's always a good sign.
-
Been busy actually working on the rules (should be released in a month or two), but I painted up a few models I've had sitting on my desk forever.

Interesting figs those two bounty hunters, are they printed?
I really, really like that table set up, it looks massively playable, as well as aethetically very cool, awesome.
-
Yep both printed from ResinMunitorum, an Etsy seller who prints really nice stuff (they have a normal site too I believe). Almost all of my 3D printed minis in this thread are from them off the top of my head.
The knock-off Dredd isn't my favourite..I should have given him cooler weapons (they're both kits that ship with a bunch of options).
PS: Thanks. I love the two table options I have for the game at the moment. I'm a big fan of "three ways to get there" concept in building tables. I like having options, and I like games that let you move far enough to "use" the whole table, lol. It was one of my biggest motivations when starting to design games - no point in having a cool table, if you move 6" a turn and the game lasts four turns.
-
Another poor picture of a new model. Another 3D print. This time, a...techno-vampire?

He's an evil looking piece of work isn't he?
Nice colour choices Elbows

This time, a...techno-vampire?
Vlad the Installer?
Nice!
-
Cool 8)
-
Vlad the Installer?
Nice!
That would explain him having two cybernetic arms. Times must be tough as a vampire when everyone is full of infected/radioactive blood. He just really sucks as an installer.

I rescued another five Space Marine scouts from 2nd edition. These guys'll be used in conjunction with my other five to do another Scrapheap faction. They'll also potentially serve in a 2nd edition "Marines vs. Tyranids" project my buddies are talking about (it'll never happen).

I love metal Space Marine scouts. Sadly I painted up 15 or more a few years ago...then sold them when I quit collecting marines. Only to buy another 20 or so...and start the process all over. The sculpts are just wonderful 90's Warhammer, in a good way.
PS: whoops, guess I never posted the original five rescues on here either. I'm leaning toward using these models as the "law" element in the game.

As usual all my Space Marine scouts arrived in conditions like this:

nice stuff! always amazing to me, how a different color palett can make a huge difference on how I perceive miniatures. the muted colors work really nice and make them look a lot less cartoonish than the sculpt would otherwise suggest!
-
As my buddy put it the other day "Yeah, well...you use a lot of browns!" (after I joked that all he uses is Emerald Green and Royal Blue when painting his various armies). lol

A scratch-built river barge for use with the 'Trader's Port' location.

That barge looks great.
I hate seeing blood painted like that. "Lets just add red" however I think that's how we all start off with it right? Looking forward to seeing the full scout battalion painted up in your colours, they work nicely.
-
beautiful work elbows wow love the finishes
-
Thanks! While I have all the "crap" out, I may build one more random ship just for terrain purposes. There is a vehicle expansion planned for Scrapheap in the distant future, but I'd just like some cool stuff to sit in the murky water for now.
-
I do like that barge. Very nice.
-
Great stuff. The scouts are worthy of saving. Some of best sculpts ever made.
-
Ahoy ye' land lubbers! While I had some leftover Tamiya barrels I built another barge to add to the "port" terrain.

Again, very nice!
-
Great work on those barges mate!
-
Both are excellent- great idea for a piece of terrain- but if I had to choose one I think I prefer your second one.
-
That's okay. I won't tell the first one.
-
Very nice. Looks even better loaded up.
-
I like the idea of the barges! Nice execution too.
