Title: Early Australian colonials 28mm?
Post by: EssarD on November 02, 2021, 05:44:07 AM
Hi folks. I'm looking for 28mm minis that might be suitable for armed settlers / bushrangers in the early days of New South Wales (around 1810-20). I've seen a few different ranges but haven't quite found the right "look" yet - most seem to either too "Wild West" (Dead Man's Hand Down Under) or too late (mid/late 1800s). Any suggestions? I'm very new to historical minis, so I'm sure there are lots I don't know about. Thanks!

That early, I’d look at any armed civilians without tricorns from French-Indian or AWI ranges.

Perrys do some Boers from the 1840’s that might be suitable, or maybe some Texans from the Boot Hill Miniatures?

Yes, or some Napoleonic civilians may do? They exist in various ranges, although often representing rich people.

Also, Empress Miniatures has some armed civilians in their 1840s Maori wars range.

You might find something useful here and a lot of very useful information on Australian frontier wars. I know they’ve used some figures from the War of 1812 and they might work well for you.

Perry Minis do a number of sets for Camp Scene or Camp set. You need to mix and match for figs in them but it will provide a number of suitable ones. Eureka Minis have a shearing set which will have some suitable pieces as well.

I’d suggest having a look at the various Napoleonic naval crew sets, Perry, Brigade Games etc particularly those in shirtsleeves, the BG Western range might yield some useful figures from the Mountain men packs.
