Here are some pictures I took of our latest RCW game. This was really just an excuse to plonk lots of stuff on the table, so apologies for the lack of battle report.

It was the first major outing for the Volunteer Army Drozdovsky division that my mates at SSWG have been putting together.

They are facing off against my now somewhat veteran Red Army stalwarts.

There are a few more pics on the blog here (https://thebitsbox.blogspot.com/2021/11/volunteer-army-vs-reds.html)
PS. Forgot to say we used The Men that would be Kings rules with Widows Son's great unit cards as seen here.

Fabulous! :o Your terrain is spectacular! How is your water done?
-
Thanks, glad you like it. The water is made with gloss yacht varnish done in many layers. Horrible stuff that needs a well ventilated room but looks great when dry.
-
Cracking stuff. I do like a busy table.
I like the fact your armoured cars have natural rubber tyres rather than Black.

Thanks. I like the white tyres look too. :D

Excellent looking game! :-* :-*

Beautiful set up.
Can I ask where the green building came from in the first photo ?

I forgot that until you mentioned it. I also fly RC planes and can get (with some effort) white tyre wheels which I use for early WWI Germans. Curious if any one can confirm if the allies used carbon in their tires and when. Also the Central Powers, I believe, started adding carbon to theirs at some point in the war. Or the colour tones on pictures of tires on planes is like other details and drastically changed by the type of film (and developing?). As an example yellow, and especially chrome (rich) yellows, appeared black in many contemporary photographs.

Absolutely superb looking game there, trev.
Top notch! :-*

Thanks for all the comments.

Most of the buildings are from Sarissa. I think the green and blue ones are this kit.

Beautiful game Trev, where are the trees from? They really fit the bill for the area

Thanks Doc. The trees were from China, we got a big job lot for the club. It was Luke, aka Striking Scorpion 82 (https://www.youtube.com/user/StrikingScorpion82), that got them I think. I don't think they are available any more.

On the complicated issue of tyres I looked into it when I was sculpting the Austins.
It's sort of a sliding scale roughly 1904 is when carbon was experimental added to tyres in the UK ( the empire owned the lions share of rubber production.)
1910-11 commercially available black tyres in the US ( being where the majority of the carbon oil was produced. )
Around late 1916-17 Good year started produceding black tyres. The majority of BEF tyres were a light grey. Often with Soot buffed into them.( sooty tyres being thought of as the original carbon source/idea.Then carried on as a 'way' to increase the longevity of the tyres.) Then it's all boring bits about adding webbing in the production process and rubber quality ,costs, time, supply chains and so on.
In a really loose rule of thumb the earlier the lighter the later the darker. ( Not necessarily black.)
It was possible that some early vehicles my have imported black tyres,Just as its possible for some later vehicles to have different coloured tyres or wheels depending on what's available from stores.
If your feeling clever then white walled tyres are more realistic as the areas between the tread sections tended to stain and age darker than the wall of the tyre and on roads the treads could wear back to white. They can look seriously garish to the modern eye.

The battle is now concluded and was a costly win for the Red Army.

The Workers' and Peasants' Red Army drove the counter-revolutionary Whites from the green dacha and took the village but left many martyrs on the field of battle.

The Whites actually held on tenaciously for a long time and even took the eastern ridge line in force but these inconvenient details need not be recounted in the pages of Pravda.

The cavalry arrives too late and is pinned down on the bridge unable to save the day.

However not all was lost as one of the White senior officers did recover a particularly fine box of cigars.
