There is a review of this in WSS this month; it’s aimed at small actions in Texas from 1820-1861 and seems to feature Mexicans, Texans and Commanche (I think). I was wondering if anyone had any experience of it?

Based on that report, & having bought Vol 1 & 2 of Texicana
(also by Chris Swan) I picked up a copy at the 'Ascot' show.
Only had a chance for a quick read through so far. First impression
is that it will provide a fun Skirmish game. It will also get me to
paint up the very nice Boot Hill miniatures sitting in the Lead
Mountain. It does cover Commanche & even give guidance to,
should you want to, to upgrade weapons to (slightly) later, or
use it for Napoleonic, Indian Mutiny & other conflicts.
My aim is to have some early Commanche, though no-one
makes any at the moment. Warlord looks like my best option,
but even they will require some conversion work, which might
be above my skill level. Despite rumours Boot Hill have no plans
to make any in the foreseeable future, nor does Galloping Major
I even approached the nice guy at EBOR miniatures,
with similar results.
Ah well, conversions it will be. The good news being that it is
for a Skirmish & not a whole Army. ;D

Aha! I must admit I am tempted, I have a few Foundry old west figures that look pretty 1840s

I’m always looking for a new thing for plains wars skirmish and had an eye on these but thought they might be too early for me - good to hear they can stretch to post civil war.
Ok, I’m in!

Bought and read them, they are very much in the spirit of the author's output in Miniature Wargames - what in my book is actually a shining endorsement. I'm yet to see how that actually play, but similarities are big enough that anyone familiar with the aforementioned articles may feel rather at home.

My stuff is more in the Mountain Man / Blackfoot area but to my mind a muzzleloader or bow remains the same….

As I said they are usable for Indian Mutiny, wars in South America etc.
so yes , you're correct. :)
