Most peeps buy a motorbike; I buy Space Muppets!
Every 10 years or so I think about paint SMs again - the last time I did an army was waaaaaaay back when RT came out. Normally, sensibly?, talk myself out of it but this time it didn't work ;D
Not sure what I'll use them for yet - maybe Stargrave - as they won't be vanilla GW; I've used 3d printed shoulder pads on the assault ones and have picked up some bits from Anvil and Kromech to jazz them up.
Anyways, the first few.....

Hope to get the rest of the assaults done this coming week before taking a bit of a break to avoid the worst of the seasonal madness.
-
They look great mate, you should do more :D
-
8) way cool!!!!!
-
Mid-life crisis's are overrated ;) lol, yes you can have more than one :o
Space Marines are much safer than a motorbike, especially when they are so well done.
Keep up the good work
Glen
-
You've done a bloody good job on them. Any vehicles in the pieline or is your crisis not that bad yet?
-
Looks good. Stargrave got me to buy a few marines as well, although I converted all the ones I did to make good and sure they'd never get used in 40K. They're so oversized next to the actual SG plastics they make good realistically massive power armor, even the not-Primaris ones.
-
Cheers, all 8)
you should do more :D
I may have bought several boxes ;D

Got a dreadnought to do but not vehicles. Yet ::)

Excellent :D

Very nice indeed!

Yep, know that feeling....and fell for it this time too...must be something in the air...
::) ::)

Strange that I have been looking at there stuff recently and thinking it is pretty good.
-
What about space marines on a bike 😉
The bottom ones give off the warrior monk vibe that the space marine fluff leads you to believe in.
-
What about space marines on a bike 😉
Not in the immediate pile'o'plastic but quite possibly down the line
-
Very nice work!
I'm as quick to slag off Games Workshop as the next guy but I have always found Space Marines quite satisfying to paint and a lot of the new Primaris big jobs are actually lovely.
-
Nice :-*
-
As I said on FB, lovely stuff.
There's always One Page 40k or one of the various Rogue Trader 'retronclones' like Renegade Scout if you're looking for rules.
That said there's the core of a decent system in 9th ed, just too much extraneous garbage has crept in.

Too right. In particular, I would love to know what idiot thought expanding the number of strategems was ever a good idea. They sucked when they were strategy cards way back in 2nd edition (hands up if you remember those wonderful Virus Outbreaks ending games - how 2020 can you get?) and they've only gotten worse with each later iteration.
-
Who are you!? And what have you done with Jon?

I know - scary ain't it. Don't worry, though, it'll just be a phase.
-
Just a phase..... until you pick up a box of Primaris!

I was told the same but these new fangled Primark Maureens make me shudder!
;)

Maybe think about a space marine excommunication made by Captain Blood and Malamute with Napoleonicsin 40mm? ;)
The figures are great, so I won’t diagnoses Midlifecrisis. Seems more a expansion of range or you are bored by the other stuff.
Bad for me, because I love your moderns.
-
N@#$%^&*%$s in 40mm? ;)
If I ever resort to the 'N' word, in any scale, pack me off on a one way trip to Switzerland ;)
-
lol
-
I like them, d'you know I do. Space Marines are a great, classic shape with plenty of influences going into their design and they just work somehow. Your painting is just right for them.
-
I'm enjoying doing them a lot more than I thought I would. Never been a huge fan of placcy but, I have to say, these are in a different league to most plastic kits.
2nd half of the assault marines - bare heads (I wanted to use the helmets on the Reivers instead of the comedy ones they come with) and a couple of hand and arm swaps to try out the Anvil/Kromech bits. Some of the poses aren't quite right - always the downside of multi-pose minis imo - but generally happy.

Final one before I go Dogging for a couple of weeks...
:o
I envy you your stamina ... a couple of weeks?
-
I hope that doesn’t involve otters :(
-
Definitely a break from the norm. I have to agree with Paul your style seems to suit these very well.
As for the fortnight long engagement I believe it may be prudent to check the weather forecast.
As the wind chill factor may result in you still holding a miniature
Guy,
No Otters are harmed.
In polite society ,I believe it's the opportunity to spot a North American/ Canadian, aquatic themed mammal with a side line hydro engineering projects. Whilst holding a single shot weapon and awaiting permission to fire.

I was going to order one of these to stick on a noxious neighbour’s car but if you PM me your address I’ll order another. lol
-
lol lol
-
Nice Spesh Maureens. I've been tempted, but they're all too big. lol
According to wikipedia:
dogging
/ˈdɒɡɪŋ/
nounINFORMAL•BRITISH
the practice of watching or engaging in exhibitionist sexual activity in a public place.
What new depths has the LAF sunk to?

Get your minds out of the gutter, you lot ;)
Dogging with a capital D ;)

Memories; We had Newfoundland dogs for years, and my mother and grandmother bred and showed Cocker Spaniels, gun dog trials and the usual show circuit. These days I have a rescue dog. Both my classic cars are named after dogs; MG is George , named after my late stepfathers Mastiff, and Charlie my first Newf my Morris Oxford .
I wish they lived longer…
-
Nice work Jon but aren’t you a bit old for a mid-life crisis ;)
-
To be fair I'd fallen victim to socially irresponsible Town planning. Due to such trauma I couldn't resist. If it's any consolation my hang over didn't kick in until lunch time and proved to be stubborn to the point I could hold a sculpting tool today. lol
I'll consider it penance for all ready knowing about your fondness for Animals. As it's been a belter (still avoiding lying down ::) )
Mark
Are you planning on rounding off with some squad transport?
On a slightly different note. You have given me the perfect pick for a cunning plan ., Plus a colour scheme for the dog you gave me( it's due to live on the engine cover of my Civiy Bren gun Carrier.Just couldn't think of the right colours for it.)

Well done that dog. After all, no one wants to fail the Bitch Challenge. lol lol lol
-
Very nice Space Muppets but surely the motor bike would have been a cheaper option? lol

The Judge was a Mrs B Cornet? You couldn’t make that up. lol lol lol
I’m guessing twin set, pearls, slightly tweedy look, with horn rimmed glasses and a complete, bound, set of Country Life stretching back to 1956. I suspect she’s never been asked to go dogging but would put her hand up in a flash if asked and as long as she could bring her knitting.
-
What an education this site is.
Where else do you go to learn about Dogging/dogging and that the Reserve Bitch Challenge applies to the one you (probably) don't expect?
Very nice painting, but it almost seems superfluous to say that at this stage.
-
Lovely stuff!
If it's any consolation I'm also afflicted by a worrying attraction to 'modern' 40k at the moment. I figured it's a time of life thing or the start of a more permanent decline :)

-
What you mean you are there already ;).
Which has got me thinking.... when was the last time I went in one? Must be at least 15 years :o
I've nothing against GW - honestly don't get the 'hate' and if anyone can't see what good GW have done for the industry they are on a different planet from the rest of us. I haven't used their paint in very long time and, other than this recent urge, not much they make has made me say 'got to have' (and if it did there are much cheaper ways to get it) so there just hasn't been a reason.
-
I'm with you there. I don't really like their modern rulesets and really don't like their selling methods...but....going to Warhammer World still gives me a thrill even though I am.jo longer on their demographic and tend to only buy old stuff on ebay!
-
You must have a decent force now.
What is next on the painting table for them?
-
Next up is the other 5 Reivers, then, probably, a couple of characters
-
Is that an ebay purchase or hood up and dark glasses kind of thing?
-
*cough* mate with a GW trade account *cough*

Nowt wrong with them mate 8)
-
Wow. They are spectacular. :-*
-
Very nice work.
-
If a resurrected love for 40k is indicative of a mid-life crisis, I'm also guilty as charged. (If just for the minis, not the constantly rehashed rules.)
And your minis are absolutely lovely! Very smooth painting and quite a distinctive non-Eavy-Metal style. Wouldn't mind to see more of 'em.
-
Lovely work,
May we all have midlife / senior life crises as yours ;) :D :D :D
Thanks for sharing.

Nice painting.

lovely blending on those black robes!!
