Title: Fantasy Terrain and Models
Post by: SotF on December 23, 2021, 11:54:12 PM
Recently got a replacement cell phone which means a working camera there...

Dark Ages Chapel (Tabletop Workshop)

It's a nice kit, though, with mine, the interior wasn't in very good shape with pits and bubbles and several miscast parts. The exterior is awesome, the only thing that I'd needed to do with it other than a few gates that needed cleaning was to fill in where the walls lock together.

Unfortunately, with it being shipped internationally, the price with shipping means that the other models in Tabletop Workshop makes are a bit on the more expensive side for what I'd be willing to pay.

Stone Bridge (Warlord/Italieri)

A really nice looking kit, with an odd mix of simple and irritating to put together. It's got six pieces that are 2 copies of 3 parts. The two sides, and the top of the bridge and the underside of the bridge are each in two parts. It's easy to see how things come together, but a little difficult to work everything together at the same time and correctly. There are some issues from the way it was cast such as the ridge along the handrails of the top of the sides which you can't easily remove...I minimized it as much as I could without ending up removing the stone texture from area which leaves it looking off...but the ridge isn't that bad of a thing there. The other issue is that the top of the center has rather shallow texture there which makes a lot of the drybrushing difficult, I've been thinking it might just be the tooling to make it getting a bit old there. I still like the look and I've been thinking of getting a second one.

Alicorn Statue

Just a cheap Dollar Tree winged unicorn on a wooden plaque for a base from the same place and painted up. The winged unicorn comes in a 2 pack with a smaller one that's scaled right as a normal mini...I've got 2 more of the big ones (need to find matching plaques to base them on) and I'm using the 3 smaller ones as part of my Dragon Rampant force.

Man-At-Arms Statue

The dollar tree He-Man figure of Man-At-Arms with the base removed, more futuristic details shaved off, and painted as a statue while mounted on a wooden disc from the craft store and a small card piece painted in the same metals as the statue. The actual size is one where it might have worked with a basic repaint for a normal mini if I was mainly using larger minis.

Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to actually get a good focus on the statue...

Barrels

Just some quick craft store barrels that I painted up as an objective marker for supplies. I used a 2" base from some of the Nolzur's/Deep Cuts lines...I loathe those bases for use with actual minis because they're to flat there for picking up by the base, but with scatter and similar, they work great.

Memorial/Sacred Stone

A rather quickly done piece of scatter using another of the 2" bases and foam coated in patching compound and a few bits from the box.

Old Promontory Garden

A bit of an older thing, it was started during the full lockdown period last year and I recently added more to it with some sparse flocking and scenics that I'd been out of when making the rest. I'd used layers of foamcore to make the cliffs that where roughly shaped before then cut and textured to what I wanted when I'd finished assembling it, then used patching compound thinned down to an easily brushable point and several rough, small stones to add to it before sand and other work and painting. The structure is a lantern from the dollar tree that the shape of which reminded me of the old garden bird cages which inspired the project...removed the tea light for it there.

The layers from the foamcore actually works great for the rock striations there, for a lot of things I'm planning on using this method more with things.

Swamps/Marshes

These are rather simple to make, and designed that the two can fit on either side of the bridge I made along with being able to be used solo or together elsewhere if needed.

I started with some rather large plywood rounds and some card from a larger soft drink box that was large enough to cover a side and cut to make the "dry" areas of the piece. Then Smoothed it out with patching compound for a more natural look, worked some stones into it then sand and dried/sterilized twigs before I painted it. The water is polyeurethane high gloss with some fine flock mixed in, and the lilypads are a 3x5 card painted in a mix of greens before using a standard hole punch followed by cutting a notch out of it. positioned it on the water before adding a thin layer of the gloss overtop.

Rustic Cabin

I'd started out deciding to try making the cabin from a tutorial on the Mr Waaagh Media channel on YouTube when I needed another one for a scenario, and then decided to go a lot further because it wasn't looking like something that would fit the rest of my terrain. Starting by the chimney and fireplace along with using wood for the detail work around it...and then deciding that I needed to do an interior for it with a removable roof. I'd found the original tutorial quite plain, but the channels tutorials tend to be rather good for beginners

Green Dragon (Deep Cuts: Silver Dragon)

I'd painted this a little bit before the lockdowns due to a D&D game, then it got borrowed and only just got it back.

I'm impressed you've done some coloured patterns on the chapels windows, didn't even attempt it when I painted mine.

I'm impressed you've done some coloured patterns on the chapels windows, didn't even attempt it when I painted mine.

I used acrylic inks at full strength for it followed by a gloss varnish brushed over it. The panes are deep enough that you don't need that much work to do it it.

Some nice pieces. I like the little tower on the cliff and the unicorn. There's a lot of terrain that can be made from cheap odds and ends if you put your mind to it.

Some nice pieces. I like the little tower on the cliff and the unicorn. There's a lot of terrain that can be made from cheap odds and ends if you put your mind to it.

Yeah, it seems that, half the time, I end up at Dollar Tree looking for various things that can be used as the basis for terrain.

And I've got a bit more here...

Boneyard
(https://i.imgur.com/wLo4bgI.jpg)

Some bones from Halloween decor and party favors I've found for cheap...the bones were a pain to remove the mold lines I could, but they're extremely hard in ways that make it difficult to use a knife and files don't work well on them either...the skull worked really well though with little effort. I have several more pieces done that are somewhat similar to those that are put away, did those two this year and it's more of a slow journey towards a planned giants graveyard set...

The Gates
(https://i.imgur.com/ykzfytj.jpg)

Dollar Tree fairy garden pieces that started with an awful paint job but a good sculpt and size. I'd tried to get some more last year, but they were out...hoping that they get more in January/February this year when they put their fairy garden out.

Overgrown Well
(https://i.imgur.com/WpL6LyP.jpg)

A Dollar Tree christmas village well, based on a 2" Nolzur's base and repainted. A lot of the flock is to cover the various piles of snow sculpted onto it.

Nolzur's Young Blue Dragon
(https://i.imgur.com/9rSdmkw.jpg)

I do still have the lightning breath piece...I just don't really like the look of it in place so I didn't glue it in.

Nolzur's Frost Giant
(https://i.imgur.com/QZxJPfD.jpg)

Deep Cuts Velociraptors
(https://i.imgur.com/NIf1WOO.jpg)

White Tiger
(https://i.imgur.com/dOFX96s.jpg)

A plastic tiger that I painted up because I needed one for a D&D adventure, and it's a white tiger because I wanted to paint it as one...

Alicorn Herd
(https://i.imgur.com/PBHhLwg.jpg)

These are the alicorns that were paired with the larger ones I'd painted as a statue...

Reaper Undead

A few more pieces of terrain, 3 quickly painted and one older one...

Foot Bridge
(https://i.imgur.com/6PvOTno.jpg)

This is something that I'd found recently when needing to empty some rooms due to replacing carpeting, I'd bought it a LONG while back and misplaced it. I believe it was from Walmart from their aquarium decorations and on a pretty hefty discount at the same time.

Unfortunately, the image washed out, probably due to the white stone look I wanted. Unfortunately, the items on the top weren't that well cast and the material doesn't work well to adjust them. It's more of a small bridge that I can use with things and was, originally, going to be for a garden pond piece for Ronin before it disappeared on me.

LotR Ruin
(https://i.imgur.com/CV6r6mV.jpg)

Painted and based it just over a year ago, I'd had it since the first GW starter set from when Fellowship of the Ring came out. Misplaced the other half of it, still looking for it because I'd like to have it in order to have a more semi-complete ruin there. Unfortunately, the pieces were extremely light and would get bounced around the table, which prompted the base added to it and I used foamcore for the floor for the ruin there.

Ruined Doorway
(https://i.imgur.com/fb7OnXx.jpg)

This is one of Reaper's terrain pieces in their bones material. It's not the normal white bones (Or black or USA), it's closer in color to the Bones Black, but it's more flexible and I think it's the same as the Mystic Circle I'd painted a while back (Need to find the box I'd stored that in). I'm thinking about adding some flock and other material to it since the ground didn't drybrush that well, and the rubble is ill defined, but it's still a great piece

Hangman's Gibbet
(https://i.imgur.com/Q6MSwu4.jpg)

Another Reaper Bones terrain piece. The base part was great, the arm and rope...that doesn't want to stay fully straight there, but it's doable. The entire thing painted up quick and easy.

Was hoping that it would have been easy to use it as a stage as well, but the design makes that not worth the effort. Still, it's something that I'll have a few uses for

Just a bit more things...

Deep Cuts Catapult
(https://i.imgur.com/4dtJBX6.jpg)

I've done two of these now, both ended up requiring the bases. The first due to some warping when it slipped off the table right after the paint dried, and the other inside the box. With both it was mainly due to just not wanting to sit flat, but the bases are rather nice there.

I'm looking for a crew for them that works with the Reaper Anhurians because they're making up the bulk of my current project.

Campfire
(https://i.imgur.com/WEjssdp.jpg)

A cheap thing from a cowboy/frontier plastic set of toys based on a 2" nolzur's base with some sand before painting. I've got 5 or six of them for rpg other use.

Buddha Statue
(https://i.imgur.com/LTcTKPl.jpg)

A cheap dollar tree statue that I'd originally gotten for Ronin, but never got around to repainting until recently.

Elephant Statue and Koi Pond
(https://i.imgur.com/WDYkD9H.jpg)

A dollar tree incense burner that I worked as a statue and then worked it up from there...I kind of wish that I'd just painted it as an actual elephant because, while it might be out of scale, but would look great there.

Winter Wolf
(https://i.imgur.com/tIXVwLE.jpg)

Nolzur's Winter Wolf is interesting though a bit large for the actual creature size. I've used it as an alpha wolf with my dire wolves (GW Fenrisian Wolves) and the Old Glory Loup Garou for a Song of Blades and Heroes warband/pack because it amused me at the time.

I keep considering adding a second of the Loup Garou to the collection as I really don't want to strip/repaint/rebase the existing one to match it with the other wolves when I use it for SoBaH...

Ice Troll
(https://i.imgur.com/hsI2MGi.jpg)

Reaper Bones Ice Troll...a good sculpt that I've used with a few forces and led to trolls in the setting I've been working on.

Large Skeleton Warriors
(https://i.imgur.com/XHRSIjR.jpg)

Some cheap plastic skeletons from a toy store set...I've seen them since in a combined package with pirates. They work well for a large size creature in D&D.

Elementals
(https://i.imgur.com/AzFih7e.jpg)

Most are the Deep Cuts medium Earth and Water elementals along with an old Mage Knight mini that I repainted when it's original base broke.

Dimetrodons
(https://i.imgur.com/6VYjJRJ.jpg)

I'd painted these a long while back after the old Lost World Safari yahoo group had a contest for a postcard scenario thing. I cleaned them up from some dust and repainted the edge of the bases since I never got around to that originally...sculpts are cheap plastics from a very cheap set, but they painted up easily.

Dilophosaurus'

A couple cheap dilos from a sack of more rubbery dinosaur toys, they painted up quite easily and used the Jurassic Park look as a starting point with a lot of modifications due to the sculpt.

Generic Herding Dinosaurs
(https://i.imgur.com/h7y6hX8.jpg)

No idea what species these were supposed to represent, but they painted up easily as a more general herbivorous one in a full herd. They came in the same sack as the dilophosaurus'

Lion
(https://i.imgur.com/NHQRXXI.jpg)

A cheap, plastic lion that repainted well...couldn't resist basing it with something like pride rock.

Horses
(https://i.imgur.com/Zq0PsGj.jpg)

Cheap plastic horses based on 2" wooden "coins", positioned so that there was room on one side where you could sit a rpg mini on a 1" base and move it around if needed. Did them because I was playing a Paladin there.

Cows
(https://i.imgur.com/2nDuSab.jpg)

Cheap plastics based on the rest of the coins from when I did the horses.

Sheep Dog
(https://i.imgur.com/SJGVGtz.jpg)

Another cheap plastic, painted and based from the start in 3 hours while doing some other things because I needed it for a game that night.

Rhino
(https://i.imgur.com/o0mizPn.jpg)

Another cheap plastic that I liked the sculpt of...unfortunately, I didn't have any putty at the time and nothing else worked to fill the gap at the neck...

Wild Boar
(https://i.imgur.com/O37QH0e.jpg)

I'd actually found this mini abandoned in the parking lot at the local park, needed a game animal for an adventure so it got painted up there.

Great White Shark
(https://i.imgur.com/pFcQNN7.jpg)

(Insert Jaws theme here...)

This is a fun one that I needed to paint up when I first saw it. Only downside is that the heavier use of gloss made it difficult to get everything good for a pic.

Aiden Tidewater (Nolzur's Water Genasi Druid)

The actual character is a monk, but it was a perfect fit for the odd mix of surfer dude attitude and street fighter type skill set though the Four Elements Monk isn't as useful as I'd thought there.

Potion Vendor
(https://i.imgur.com/rsUX12l.jpg)

Most of this character was done a while ago, but I needed a female healer/potion seller for something that I'm working on.
Title: Re: Fantasy Terrain and Models

Just a few more things.

Monument Statue (Reaper: Gravestone of Protection)

I really like this sculpt, I'd originally gotten it to paint because it seemed like it was close enough to fit the looks of the Reaper Anhurians with some added detail. The shield was part of the main reason because it would work for using the same look as my troops there.

The design is tempting me to get another one, removing the base, filling the cracks in the statue and painting it as another character figure.

Menhir (Reaper Highland Familiar & Menhir set)

I liked the Menhir, not sure if I'm going to bother with the familiar for anything. The design is very interesting there for it.

Directional Sign
(https://i.imgur.com/baYROeC.jpg)

This came from a christmas village set from the dollar tree that was left over from the diorama I painted up. It needed a base there to keep it stable.

Still thinking about what to actually put on the sign, and looking for the detail pen that I'd bought for this sort of thing...recently replaced the carpets in the part of the house where I work in and am still going through the boxes...

Flocks of Sheep
(https://i.imgur.com/QiEJQli.jpg)

I needed some animal flocks for a few scenarios in a game a while back, used the really cheap plastic ones from a farm set that were about the right size. They're poorly sculpted with flash and mold lines like crazy that I had to work out. I'd based them with some sand and primed about 3 years ago and used them a few times like that, found them and went for a quick paint job just to get them done since I was painting things and just wanted to do a few more.
Title: Re: Fantasy Terrain and Models
Post by: SotF on January 26, 2022, 06:50:28 AM
Just one thing from Dollar Tree's Fairy Garden stuff that I rushed to finish just to have something painted after 2 weeks of allergy problems.

Timber Pile
(https://i.imgur.com/QFOe4nx.jpg)

As said, this was a push for just a quick win while also working on 4 more of the gates since they had them at the Dollar Tree which take a lot more time to get painted to match my current 2 finished ones. I liked this as a rather functional piece, I painted it to also fit in with my old "Truncated Trees" while also being generic enough to work with pretty much anything else. It also functions as a way between levels if I need it with the logs actually able to support a 1"/25mm base easily enough on most of the levels.

For the gates, the reason they take so long is the stonework is more of a start with a multicolor mess of a basecoat over the stonework, drybrush warm off white, ink wash/stain, drybrush when fully dry, repeat ink wash, drybrush cold off white, highlight drybrush of white...the inks just take forever to dry enough for the drybrush.

Nice 8) The timber pile looks suspiciously like stairs.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I grabbed it, wasn't sure if it would actually work until I'd gotten it home.

And it's good for cover/LoS breaking as scatter

Bought these the same time I got the timber pile, just took a lot more drying time for the stonework. They're painted the same as the ones I got last year

As I needed a few more oozes for something I'm hoping to run soon, I made some and went through my older stuff to pull some things out for a bit more here.

Earth Genasi/Stone Golem
(https://i.imgur.com/UlgW6n5.jpg)

I'd gotten a few of the Marvel: Handful of Heroes packs a while back, while a lot of the minis are immediately recognizable, there are several that just need to be painted as something other than the hero/villain in order to work well for a monster or character. This one is of the Thing, the belt was shaved flat and I glued on a plastic gem before painting as a general stone look and avoided blues for the visible clothes.

Inquisitors/Witch Hunters
(https://i.imgur.com/Sy04WPJ.jpg)

The left and right are from Reaper, not entirely sure who makes the middle one...got him a LONG while ago from a trade in bin at a shop. He's starting to show some wear now, but I don't use him enough to go for a repaint.

Black Oozes
(https://i.imgur.com/E4JdePt.jpg)

These are, other than the bases, scratch made. Did the bases before anything else, then applied a few layers of hot glue blobs, when that cooled I went with a gloss black, a gloss grey highlight, a black ink wash, then a layer of high gloss polyeurethane over the top

Spiders
(https://i.imgur.com/FJ2dNgq.jpg)

The small ones started from a packet of them from a halloween store from a few years ago, there's a little bit of fine sand glued on the back where there was a divot from manufacture. I've got a bunch more to make in the future if I need them.

The twins are from the Dollar Tree from their halloween decorations a few years back. The sculpt is horrible as it's a thin, cheap plastic covered in a glittery flocking that would normally shed everywhere, so I soaked them in a mix of thinned white glue and black ink, then went with a simple paint job because I needed the spiders. They'd be size huge and fit on a 3" base there.

The last one is from a toy sold at Dollar Tree, but I got it as part of a thing at a hobby store for a Halloween painting contest in 2019. The original toy is one of those with a goopy thing inside so you stick it to the wall and it rolls down. I removed the innards and underside and found a base it fit on rather well (3") and painted it up...won 2 awards and got enough store credit for a D&D book I wanted.

good job on the cheap and cheerful spiders - and like the re-purposed Benjamin.

I've got a few others that were painted. One that I couldn't identify who it was, but looks like a helmeted wizard with the pose.

I've got two nightcrawlers painted as tieflings, a version of Doctor Doom that has mjolnir that painted up, oddly, as a pretty good paladin, an Iron Man for a warforged, several versions of hulk as goliaths or some ogres (smaller side ones) depending upon their pose.

The Handfull of Heroes have an inconsistent scale between figures though

Just be very careful if you make some...with the first ones, there were several that had to be completely remade and I needed to keep my hand bandaged up due to the dog tripping me up at that point and one hand went into the still molten glue. That was not fun there

man's best friend eh? Hope you've healed ok from that.

It took a few weeks to heal up enough to paint at that point,

Well, got a new kit and painted most of it...

Perry Medieval Cottage (and shed)

I like the kit, and I've still got the fences to work on, which require a base to stand up well (They won't stand on a mat or even the slightest shift in the ground where placed).

The chimney pot that's included for later periods is not done well and barely fits in place and leaves a lot of gaps around it, and there are some shallow or missing textures for the thatching which was a bit annoying to get looking right.

But I like the look and the size might be slightly small for the current project, but it still looks great and functions for it. Fortunately it's, also, not overly far off from the cottage that I'd scratch built, and, for a fantasy setting, looks like it can be in the same village.

When getting my existing parts of my dragon rampant forces out again, put those up a few months ago when getting carpets replaced, I discovered that I was missing one of my boxes...but got pics of the ones I had in the second box which was largely some characters, the cavalry, and a extra command set of Reapers Anhurians.

General, Caster, Captain, and Standard Bearer
(https://i.imgur.com/PIXFOqt.jpg)

Unfortunately, the shield of the General seems to have some imperfections that the camera picked up but can't be seen in person...it took me a long while to remove the horse head emblem that was originally there with filing and filling to make it look right. His sword also feels oversized, but I like the hilt and don't want to go back

That banner is one where I like the look, though it's a bit large

Elite Guard, Drummer, and Trumpeter
(https://i.imgur.com/Cl0i5hq.jpg)

Outside of the basic troop choices, I think that I've painted more of that drummer than any other...mainly because I converted six of them that I got in trades to operate some of the deep cuts ballista (The small 2 pack ones with the skull on the front).

Cavalry and Wardog
(https://i.imgur.com/J9sC5ow.jpg)

All of the cavalry have a swapped hand from Fireforged's foot Sergeants kit, the banner and trumpet are from reapers metal conversion sets, and the spear on the captain is from Mantic's undead skeletons. The dog is another reaper mini, but one that I had to use in the project somehow, and the shield on his chest is painted with the same black with a white stripe as this army uses.

Thanks, I've really been liking the style of the Reaper Anhurians where they kind of work for the more lower fantasy while feelingboth very real in design while being that slight bit into the fantastic. The older Bones ones are, unfortunately, not as good as the metals, though the cavalry is great (though Bones Black)...it doesn't work if you want to use the lances they come with because those are a lost cause.

I keep having some younger family members showing up so painting time is reduced, but I got the fences done from the Perry kit.

Perry Fences

I like the fence sculpts, but I loathe how they're supposed to stand up. They require bases in order to stand up on anything but a perfectly flat surface without gluing them to it. They're, unfortunately, 5" rather than the 6" of the standard wider craft sticks so I needed to trim them down to work, which was difficult because they don't clip that way very cleanly...and it was hard to get them on straight because even plastic glue didn't work well for keeping the "foot" and fence in position while not wanting to be slotted in after gluing the foot to the base...then the sand and glue would shift them again anyway when texturing the bases.

But they were still rather easy, just annoying to put get positioned. They painted up very easily though.

I like the overgrown sections that I used for it, and I'm contemplating buying a second kit still.

Fairy House #1
(https://i.imgur.com/PFC5vXo.jpg)

Unfortunately, the colors didn't quite come out right in the pics. The flowers seem to have blown up the highlights over the rest (The pink flower is actually a darker red for example, and the walls are a mix of stippled browns).

This is one of three fairy garden houses Dollar Tree had a year or two ago, can't remember when I bought them, they have 2 styles, and I have a second one like this one and the other is a giant mushroom house. I'd attached them to plywood rounds as bases, then put them in a box and got distracted...hadn't thought of them until I was digging around for some superglue in my stuff and came back across them, and decided to use some sand on the wood to finish the basing, then repainted it.

One thing with the Dollar Tree stuff is that the sculpts are great, but the paint jobs they come with are not so good...but great for a repaint.

It doesn't fit that well with my other buildings, but I like the whimsy of the design.

That's a great little building - your paintwork has brought it to life. It would make for a welcome side-encounter in any D&D game.
Title: Re: Fantasy Terrain and Models

Finished the other two houses I had gotten when I bought the first along with a few other things.

Fairy House #2
(https://i.imgur.com/hQiXUdz.jpg)

Same sculpt as the first, took a lot of steps to go with other colors that would keep it relatively realistic for that part while not taking away from it...and making it distinct enough from the first to make them require a second look to realize that they're "twins" when on the table.

Fairy House #3
(https://i.imgur.com/vWlH3tr.jpg)

This one pushed me into going into a fully whimsy for choices for it. The wizards hat shape of the roof inspired the blending for it, and I'm still considering getting some glow in the dark paint to go for the "warts" on the roof and overhangs, along with the undersides of the roof and overhangs, but I'm not as sure if I really want to do that. I do kind of see it as the home of a gnome wizard though...

Fairy Trees
(https://i.imgur.com/Bd83M35.jpg)

These are more dollar tree fairy garden pieces that were repainted for use. They required a larger base due to being unstable on anything but a flat surface due to the shape and the taller base part with roots and grass over boulders...so I used the 3" Nolzur's bases that I had and added a slope up to blend them in as a more realistic look. They're great for scatter pieces on the table and are still flat enough for minis to stand around the trees. They also mix decently with my other trees while on the table.

The Nightwalker
(https://i.imgur.com/2YXZufq.jpg)

This is one that I had to have, but was a pain in the rear to paint in a way that looked right. The artwork and descriptions of the creature go for a black form, and it's basically painting "black" in different ways that need to look different enough and highlight correctly to work with each other and still work as a black form that isn't just hit with a few layers of black paint, and the transparent "smoke" effect makes that job a LOT harder but refuses to let my camera get shots that work.

The thing is MASSIVE for the huge Nolzur's minis, it makes my Frost Giant look short and completely dwarfs the blue dragon...and, to be honest, the Nightwalker design looks more like it should be a fiend of some kind rather than undead...or perhaps an abberation...or something else considering they're shadowfell things, but it was fun to paint up.

Raft
(https://i.imgur.com/S7JVQFt.jpg)

Grabbed this because it was cheap, looked useful, and I had a couple bucks on a rewards card at the hobby store that was expiring. The sculpt is great, it's just a pain to figure out how to paint it because wet/dry is something it would need to have, and the sculpt seems like it will work great for other log construction pieces if needed.

Rowboat
(https://i.imgur.com/C07uycW.jpg)

This one I liked, though there are a few things I wish were different. I wish they had gone for a less worn down look without the boards as patches on the sides, and the basket of fish would have been better if it wasn't used with a plug that needed to be slotted in...there was also a pair of fish that were a single piece that i didn't include (saving for a later thing).

Got a few more things painted...

Sphinx (Reaper Bones Female Sphinx)

I like the majority of the sculpt, only real issue is the lower face. The nose and to the lower lip kind of blend together, which prompted the cat nose bit. I'm considering using her in my Anhurian force, but not sure...she's also a rush job. I'd bought and got her primed with the base before getting distracted, and a friend knew I had the mini asked if he could borrow it for running White Plume Mountain which got me to pull her back out and get her done.

Garden Path (Dollar Tree)

A part of Dollar Tree's Fairy Garden stuff, it's not as useful as I'd thought when looking around the store, but it works decently as something to put on the shelf with the other stuff in an interesting diorama.

Fairy House #4 (Dollar Tree)

They had a new sculpt last time I was at the Dollar Tree, so I grabbed it and painted it. Unfortunately the flower roof doesn't work well for photos...it's got a pearlescent layer that seems to make a mess with lighting it and hiding any shadows there. I'm thinking that they're adding a sculpt a year to the line...

Outbuilding (Renedra)

It's tiny, but it's cheap. I really like the thatching on it, they're easier to paint up with drybrushes than the Perry Cottage's version. I do wish it was a little bit taller because bases make it seem even smaller, and it doesn't help that it's sculpted with a cloth/leather drape door rather than a nicer one. It works well as the outbuilding for the Perry Cottage though, which is what it'll be used for.

Unfortunately, I missed out on getting something I really wanted. The local store had a Hudson & Allen medieval keep that I really wanted, got stuck waiting for payday to fill my free cash...and someone bought it as I got there. I'll eventually order one when they're taking orders again, but I really wanted it.

I did put in an order for some palisades from Amazon that should be arriving soon. I'm also working on another house (Dollar Tree had some decorate frames that I'd grabbed that were sized and shaped right for the ends of a village house.

It's one of the things with Fantasy and SciFi terrain, it's very easy to find things that can, with a little work, function well in different worlds...the more you step away from the normal, the more that can fit in with some thought.

Why not make a plinth for it?
use something (bit of wood, blue foam, foamboard etc) to get the height you want.
Decorate it as stone. e.g. Blue foam can be scribed with an old pen. You can stick
bits of card onto the wood, or some Greenstuff to cover the foamboard.
Lengthen the door hanging with Greenstuff or PVA soaked paper towel & you are
good to go.

It's more of something disappointing about the kit itself, I'm not going to bother messing with it more there when it works well enough.

Unfortunately, I'd ordered a palisade fort from EnderToys, the parts that showed up look good, but it's missing a good chunk of the wall pieces, so I'm stuck waiting on that one until I finish contacting them. If they fix the issue and send the missing ones, I might end up ordering another set to have a larger fortification...if not, well, I'll just return it and think about other options.

Well, it seems like they're sending the missing parts

Just got the fort fully delivered, trying to decide if I actually want a second set because it's actually rather large as it is. There's parts that I'd like to expand (I kind of want to have a 2nd gate if nothing else).

turned min into a low-relief 'frontage'.

https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=119096.msg1731629#msg1731629.

I had to build a 'firing step' so that 28mm figures defending could look over the wall. lol
As I used Blue-Foam it was an easy matter to cut out steps.

I like the idea of the firing step, but I'm not sure if I want to do that since it would mean the curved pieces get stuck being a single direction.

Got a few cheap brush trees a long while back, not sure where, but I used a few as part of a christmas diorama for a gift, and did an ink wash, some paint and then flocking to make them work for normal evergreens with a few stands.

Evergreen Trees
(https://i.imgur.com/WrSRaow.jpg)

Just a few pieces of scatter trees to place around, not very large trees, but I only had a relatively few of them for their size. The pack had 18 of them around the same size, with three different colorations, the white ones worked for the diorama I did and then 6 metallic ones that I had to cover in ink and paint before flocking, and the oddly dusted green ones that looked rather normal, but a bit of thinned paint over the white and flocking made them even better.

Got some of Dollar Tree's fairy garden stuff painted up again.

Noble Women
(https://i.imgur.com/n4vNFVm.jpg)
I liked painting these, they're rather simple and easy to do. A slight bit heavier set, but they kind of fit as some wealthier biddies going about their business. Unfortunately, the males in the stuff are entirely garden gnomes in positions that tend to be not as useful and don't really fit very well.

Doctor's Office
(https://i.imgur.com/UlAF6Ln.jpg)
It's just this years new house for the series, only one of the new ones they had when I stopped for it...there's a little bit of damage on the sign that's far to visible but only really because visible after priming and starting to paint it. Kind of disappointing as it's less generic than the prior ones.

Spirit Tree
(https://i.imgur.com/XssocEH.jpg)
I had to get this one, but, unfortunately, the female face one they make only had one left and it was badly broken inside the packaging in the shop so I'm hoping for a restock. I'm also not sure if this'll be more of just an odd tree or a creature/thing to have.

Mushroom Birdhouse
(https://i.imgur.com/ZMhW8uA.jpg)
This came packed with the tree, and is more of a random scatter that I'm not as sure if I like or not, but it's now on the shelf with the rest of the set to look interesting.

A dollar tree fairy garden piece on the 1" base from a Nolzur's mini. Unfortunately, the bee on it was turned to the back in the packaging and made me wonder if I actually want to do the rest.

The main thing that inspired it is the Gathers from the Pern series which is something that stuck with me and a relatively recent re-read had more ideas there.

All this stuff is great but that animal pen really is something special.

There is something about building it with real rocks that makes it different from other things...and it also means that I have less of an issue for warping with the base due to being heavy enough to push the plywood for the base down with the rest of the basing.

It also turned out a whole lot better than my prior thing with it, I did a 3'x3' board using stones to try for a path that didn't come out very well there.

A lot of their things are great, the only issue is that the paint job they tend to use is poor, but a repaint makes them awesome.
