Title: Vietnam Wargame using BOHICA rules.
Post by: Paul @ Empress Miniatures on December 29, 2021, 05:40:46 PM
For the first time in a few months we got in a wargame. Possibly the last for a while if lockdown returns.

Using the soon to be published BOHICA Vietnam rules we played a fictitious urban game set in about 1970. A weak USMC with lower Skills & Drills against a weak NVA platoon with higher S&D determined to die rather than surrender.

The random effect chart threw a few curve balls with the Marines getting a Zippo on first move which burned out one of my sections after it killed and wounded and advancing Marine squad. However a random induced suicide bomber put pay to the Marine advance with some casualties and a morale failure.

With more Marines arriving on table the NVA refused to lie down and an Ontos was destroyed by an RPG hidden in the church and then a Gage Commando was also ambushed and forced to retreat quickly.

However off table mortar fire was able to take out some of the NVA defenders and they were finally cornered and beaten into surrender.

Great fun and very challenging as the rules subtly added to the problems faced by both commanders.

The rules will be released mid January and are available from Caliver Books and Empress Miniatures.

Happy New Year to all our customers.

Paul

The game was a very challenging one with the flow of who was winning swapping back and fourth. Right up to the last two moves I was confident that my NVA were onto a winner then USMC mortar support arrived and my world kinda collapsed, literally, lol

My younger brother was a USMC mortarman.  He'll appreciate your little twist of fate there...

Too late, I've got my copy ;D

May I ask about separate QRS(s)  ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???.
I don't want to wreck my copy of these pretty rules
to copy the ones inside the rules.
I don't even mind paying for them Mr Eaglestone,
but if they could be put on the dedicated Facebook page.
 :)

Good call Pete.
Having paid out for a copy of the rules, I don’t want to ruin them by folding the pages back whilst trying to photocopy the qrs.
Any chance of a pdf qrs ? Other manufacturers do it.

I have received my copy, just reading it.

A QRS would be useful, possibly similar to the laminated set of Danger Close rules set I bought from Empress so long ago.

While I would appreciate a separate pdf of the QRS, I'll likely just photocopy the one in the book, which I should have in my hot little hands by Tuesday (according the the USPS...).  I have a sneaking suspicion that the rulebook will end up well-used anyway... ;)

Sorry guys but kinda out of my control. Having chatted to the publisher they do not want to do a downloadable QRS because some naughty people simply download that and do not buy the core rules.

Having invested a great deal in the creation of the rules and also selling them at a very low price that seems pretty logical to me although I can understand the disappointment.

Yet again good people suffer from the actions of the naughty.  :(

In the future however we may visit this descision.

Pete you can get my private copy when you join Okey's  ;)
