Title: Taps Stargrave
Post by: Spinal Tap on January 02, 2022, 04:08:15 PM: Got the Stargrave book for Christmas and have started to put together a crew for, initially, solo adventures as I know no-one who has stated any interest in the game.

Whilst some of the crew will be from existing collections including a few old WOTC Star Wars figures, the project will let me paint up a few bits and pieces I have lying around.

Todays work is these three: Captain Carden-Loyd (Cyborg) from a 40K Kataphron with a head from, I think, Anvil Industry; A plant based Biomorph First Mate, Quercus Robur - no idea where the miniature is from; and a Trooper from the Wargames Atlantic Einherjar.

Regarding that miniature, I've now determined it came in Mantic's Star Saga kickstarter, which was gifted to me by a friend and has provided lots of models for other games over the past few years.

The paintjob was very simple: primed black, zenithal highlight in white, painted main body 50/50 mixed water and Cygor Brown Contrast paint, limbs/head with Camo Creed Contrast paint, details in purple.

Literally took less than 20 minutes from primed to finished.

Post by: Spinal Tap on January 05, 2022, 04:24:29 PM: So I painted another Alien from the spares box today, again a figure from Star Saga. He's equipped for Runner or Recruit but has currently been promoted to medic on the Bretonia 4.

I also painted up a batch of Einherjar Space Dwarfs so now have 6 completed. I intend to paint more of these in Star Trek like colours.

For now they will fit in on the Bretonia 4 until their ship, The Bedriften, is repaired (read I've got all the crew painted), then I will have 2 crews completed for if folks want to tear themselves away from 40K for an evening.

I also had a quick hunt through my greeblies box and painted some small parts for use as Physical loot (red) and Data (blue).

Now have plenty of figures and all the bits I need to start on the solo supplement Dead or Alive.

Painting wise I may occasionally add a few crew but I can now focus on building a new Frostgrave warband with the box of Burrows and Badgers miniatures my wife bought me for Christmas.

A long day painting and I'm back to work tomorrow but I'm where I wanted to be to game more and paint (a bit) less in 2022.

Quercus has Drone as a selected power so I painted up this little fella from a Genestealer sprue in the same colours.

Also sorted some old Genestealers and added a few more, painting 3 brown and 1 Red Brown to act as the Queen - will need more bugs for Quarantine 37 but have a few ideas for some of those scenarios involving visitors from other Times And Relative Dimensions In Space; Daleks and Cybermen from the Doctor Who Exterminate game.

Got most of them painted and have a few more on the painting table to finish; these will be done today ready to start playing Dead or Alive tomorrow.

Finally I painted a couple of Runners using old Star Saga figures and heads from Skitarii and Anvil Industry.

Post by: Spinal Tap on February 15, 2022, 03:20:21 PM: Practice test game of the solo Dead or Alive rules tried today, missed a few rules but got most of it down.

Killed the Mark, 8 players escaped the field, got the physical loot and the 2 who went OOA were both badly injured but healed with the profits of the loot.

Never rolled so high in my life, really, really lucky.

Shame this isn't the campaign for real; doubtless when I start the campaign proper the only thing I'll roll is 1's.

Post by: Spinal Tap on February 18, 2022, 09:46:41 AM: Painted these 3 Judoon last night; the helmeted pair are joining the Bretonia 4 as Troopers, the other is going to turn traitor and end up as a mark in Dead or Alive.

Bit rushed with the brush so the odd mistake and I'm not overly fond of how I based them (had a plan - failed miserably).

However, I'm wanting to get some games in and have a new fantasy project in my head for the painting table, so any rebasing and retouching will happen at some future point.

It started life as a Thunderbird toy I got for a few quid, cut off the tail fin, added some parts from some toy plastic army man vehicles and a McFlurry spoon and a bit of craft paint.

Just thin card cut into strips.

Good luck with your search. I've just had a quick look on ebay uk and they're still less than £10 to buy here - hopefully you'll get something over there as cheap.

Decided that I really liked the Wargames Atlantic Einherjar and wanted a full crew of them so painted a few more last week to give my starting crew.

I've also got a couple of sprues for building other crew as required by deaths and upgrades as I solo my way through the galaxy.

Here they are, ready to transfer to their ship, The Bedriften.
