Where do the brave men of the Night’s Watch go for their... ahem... “rest and relaxation”...?
Mole’s Town of course, with it’s tavern and brothel lol
For those that may not be fans of Game of Thrones, Mole’s Town is a rough shanty town in the Northern reaches of Westeros, effectively at the edge of civilisation. Most of the buildings in Mole’s Town are sunk into the ground, so it might make for a slightly more interesting building shape.
Ok, so according to the description in the novels, most of the brothel is actually below ground, in the cellars, with “nothing more than a shack no bigger than a privy on the surface. It has a red lantern that is hung over the door.”
I’m thinking of including a modest tavern-structure on the same base, which by itself should also qualify as a “rest place” in case there is any doubt over whether the brothel counts by itself.
I’d initially thought about just representing the above surface buildings, but I’m now toying with building the cellar as well, and making the interior playable.
I’ve used some spare bits of wood to indicate the rough layout of the buildings will be as follows - the larger rectangle is the footprint of the ramshackle tavern, while the smaller box is the entrance to the brothel (and the stick between shows where the tunnel will be below surface).

The base board is roughly 12” x 12” to allow me to build the sides up to make the cellar....at least that is the plan :)

Sounds interesting enough. Will you be sculpting the patrons and their hostesses yourself too? ;D
-
There’s no rest in a brothel lol
-
This sounds excellent Matt, however not being aware of much of GoT,my first thought was Wind in the Willows lol
-
As always looking forward to seeing you Vision become reality.
-
Should be interesting.
-
Very interesting indeed
-
sounds very good to me

Don't take their comments 'lying down' :D :D :D

Thanks everyone, I haven’t got a plan yet, but at least the research should prove interesting.

Is that why you make terrain now? ;)

Well I’ve made a start...the added complication of hearing this week I might be out of a job at the end of the month means that I can’t afford to buy any additional materials, so this build is going to be based upon what I’ve got in my existing supplies.
The baseboard is 5mm MDF and is roughly 12” x 12” .
The blue foam shows the outline of the underground play area - the large space will be the cellar which the brothel sits in - it is actually underneath the ramshackle tavern, so the large rectangle will give you an idea of the footprint of the larger building. The smaller area represents the entrance to the brothel which is described as “nothing more than a shack no bigger than a privy on the surface”...so very different from the TV series.

The cellar walls are 4cm high - I’m going to rest the floor of the tavern on these walls, and build up the exterior with more blue foam so that only a small section of the cellar wall is visible from the exterior.

Ugh, sucks about the job. Hopefully not.
Regarding the outside - are you going to build it so this can sit on a larger gaming table or be standalone?
-
Progress! Excellent :)
Sorry to hear about your job(tho’ it’s not happened yet, fingers crossed).
-
Thanks both :)

It’s going to fit in with my wider Game of Thrones Project (below) - I’m using a flat gaming mat, but building some height up with the terrain pieces.

I do like it when builds are done with this fancy blue foam stuff.
Really looking forward to seeing this build progress & hopefully some shots with your cracking Got Armies.
Sorry to hear about the job.

And he's off :)
Fingers crossed for a new job soon :)

Cheers guys.
Bit more work today...started to build up the “mole hill” around the cellar with more blue foam

Can’t really see from this angle, but some areas will have more of the cellar wall exposed (windows to be added later on).

Excellent 8) . Love seeing how other people build
-
Bit more progress...
Sanded the blue foam down to smooth out the edges, before adding some polyfiller...will sand again once has dried out.

Looking good 8)

Definitely starting to take shape! I have not read the books or seen the TV series so I am very interested to see what the interior of yours looks like!
-
Some good news...kind of...I will now have more time to spend on this build.
Well, at least after tonight...off to the pub ;)
-
I am sorry about the job :-[
Hope the pub will take your mind off for a bit
-
Thanks mate, much appreciated.
A bit of progress today...the blue foam/polyfiller “molehill” now has a coating of Wood glue/sand that will provide some texture plus toughen up the exterior.
I might prime the remaining blue foam that is visible, before moving on to work on the floor of the cellar...it needs sealing in to protect it before some of the later stages, and probably less messy to do it now before I sort the floor.
