I have two ideas and I need some time to decide which one to do.
One is a "hotel" for Necromunda. This either will be a chunk of wall with a lot of pipes sticking out, used as rooms or a stack of boxes in various sizes.
The other is an abandoned shelter on the same swampy planet I built terrain for in the last two BSC (this (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=121646.0) and this (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=130636.0)).
I will decide over the weekend, I'm to exhausted to think about it now...
-
I thought a lot about this and while would like to continue the work on the swampy terrain I think the Necromunda "hotel" is more interesting for this theme.
So I will be building hotel/motel for my underhive dwellers.
I have seen a movie, long time ago, with Rutger Hauer, about some postapocalyptic sport, putting skulls on spikes or whatnot. There was a scene, the only thing I distinctly remember of the whole thing, where he and a girl(?) spent a night at a place which was basically a big wall with a lot of ledges, ladders and small platforms.
I think something similar could work well for Necromunda.
The build will be a wall which covers one edge of the game board. I will make three 12" wide sections, one of them being the hotel/motel. This will allow me to combine it with my Zone Mortalis stuff, or my 3'x3' playmat.
The other two sections will be just simple walls. I may not even make them now, as I need to concentrate on the important part, and I don't know how much time I will have to work on this.
I made some sketches, but I will probably not make detailed plans, just adding random stuff as I build along...

Sounds good :)

Blood of Heroes?

Salute of the Jugger (by another name).
The wall of shelves hotel is actually a thing, Capsule hotels. I stayed in one last time I was in Tokyo.
A google image search will bring up a load of images

Yes, that was it.

Oh interesting, I will look into it.

Good luck with this.

Made some progress today.
The base of the wall is almost done. I made a wooden frame, to make it more sturdy.

The wall itself is 12" wide and 12" high. The base is 6"x12".

All that is left to add two support columns and then I can start to build the motel. First I need to buy some glue though...

Ahoy!
I was on holiday this week, so I can show you some progress :) It is still going rather slowly though... o_o
I finished (mostly) detailing the two support columns.

When I will know what areas will be visible between the two columns I might add some more damage.
Also here is a pic of the backside of the wall.

I forgot to post is last time.
Next came the entrance/living space of the owner. I used a Munitorum container for this.

I will add a "door" to the side, which will move up-down, so it can be closed quickly if needed, like a guillotine. I will probably fix it in open position, I doubt I will have the time to make it moveable...
There will be a terrace on top as well, with some cooking gear.
The container, with some makeshift barricades, will fence off the area between the two columns, so there will be only one entrance.

Next thing is to start building the "rooms". There will be at last five, I would like to add 8-9 in various sizes.
Most of these will be completely closed as I don't want to spend a lot of time on the interiors, and they will not be accessible anyway for gaming purposes.

Looking good :)
-
That's all very neat looking! :)
-
This is shaping up nicely 8)

That looks brill 8)
-
Good grief, looks rather splendid - and big too!
-
I love the reinforcing bars in the concrete - great details. :-*
-
Made some progress on the ground floor rooms. Well one room and a pair of sleeping tubes... :)

The first floor will have two small rooms. I will decide how to continue after I'm done those.
Also to make the lower parts more game friendly, I decided not to glue down the container. I will instead use some magnets to keep it in place, which will make it possible to move it if there is some action in the ground area.
-
Love it so far.
-
Great work. Where did you find those ladders?
-
That is flash 8)
-
So sweet to see this happening. Loved that scene in Blood of Heroes and always thought it was a near perfect visualization of Necromunda, I've been considering making something like this myself for years :)
Looking ace so far!
-
Sorry about the lack of updates, I was swamped with work and didn't have any energy to build. I will be free this weekend and on next Monday though, so I plan to finish the build part soon. Then I can start butchering it with my painting skills... o_o
Great work. Where did you find those ladders?
Thanks. The smaller one cames form the Zone Mortalis Platforms and Stairs box, the bigger one is from one of the sector mechanicus kits.

Thank you guys! I will try to not disappoint by not finishing it :)

Here is my progress of the last few days, still slower pace than I would like. Nowhere near finished :(
So anyone remember when I said I will not make a working side door for the container? Yeah, me neither lol
(https://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/54/8499-160222222544-542912204.jpeg)
When up it's held by a magnet.
And the winch mechanism, not yet glued in place, because of painting.
And the state of the wall part:
The platform on the far right will get a simple canopy. And it still needs at least two more levels...
I probably spend more time on thinking how to build it so I can take it apart for painting, than actually building it o_o
I will have this weekend free as well, so my next absolute deadline for finishing the building is Monday. Whatever state it will be on next Monday, that's it.
-
That’s coming on fantastically 8) 8)
Love all the little details
-
I agree- the little details are great.

Progress! :)

The left side room, with a bunkbed...

... and in its place.
The double room in the middle, still needs a roof. I will probably place one more room on it.
And how the whole thing looks at the moment. There is still a lot to do but I'm pretty sure I can finish the build tomorrow.
-
Really cool and inspiring too. 8)
-
The build is mostly complete, all is left to add rivets and bolts and some damage here and there.
The finished top rooms.

All this time I was thinking what to do with the wall surface. As it is it lacks texture.
Then I found AK's concrete diorama texture in our shop and I made some tests. I liked the results so I put some on the actual build as well. It gives the walls some nice (and much needed) texture.
What do you guys think?
-
Cant wait to see this all painted up 8)
The concrete texture stuff looks great, my first hought seeing the picture was "how's he done that?" :D

Don't expect much, with my terrain painting skills, it will most likely be a downgrade lol But I will do my best ;)

I am hoping for a bright colour & not too in the future there is only grey lol
I think the pink looks really good
-
Well I'm not really interested in fifty shades of gray, so there will be colors lol
I can paint the canvas on this pink ;) :

Also this shows why things go slowly... I spent about 45 minutes on the left side with the fastening pegs and the wire, and you can barely see it when the thing is in place... Sometimes I have to remind myself I'm not building a diorama o_o I would love to add a lot more little details to the build, but I really have to start painting.
The last door in place
(https://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/54/8499-220222225046-54391987.jpeg)
And a final look with and without the structures.
Excuse the half done figures, only they were at hand for scale.
The only thing left is to make some fences for the ground level, so the doors on the container make sense and to build a big sign. I will give up the terrace on the top of the container, it is not necessary. Also without it, and not fixing the container to the base I can use this as regular living place, not just a motel. And the container can be used for other setups as well.
-
So I almost forgot two details while painting the thing.
One is the two fence sections and the other is the sign for the motel.
I quickly put these together yesterday and primed them before work today.
Hopefully we will have a slow day and I can paint these at my workplace. It shouldn't be to hard, just some quick silver drybrush, washes and weathering.
The sign is a bit more complicated, but I will try to cook something up with masking tape and my borrowed airbrush.
The bad news is I will have to make the entry photo with lamp lights so I'm sure it will turn out terrible o_o
On the other hand I'm really pleased with the end result. The painting turned out better than I thought I can manage. :)
-
Final photo was sent in.
-
And received too - I like these vertical features and am now planning one to complement by incomplete entry for this year. :D
-
Wow...this is amazing! I have to know...has it seen use as a gaming board? I think it would be so amazing to see used on the tabletop.

Thanks. :)
Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to use it in a game yet. I started to build the other two sections but my regular job and some commissioned mini painting got in the way and the project is on hold for now. If everything goes well I can start working on it again next week.
Once the extra sections are finished I will definitely play a game with them, even if it's just a one of game.
