Title: Scifi HoTT equivalent needed
Post by: midismirnoff on January 11, 2022, 02:36:01 PM
Dearest hive mind,
I'm looking for a Scifi equivalent of HoTT. I've already tried Alien Squad Leader, but it didn't meet my taste. The requirements is:
- multibased 6 - 15mm
- quick game
- small table
- miniatures agnostic

Thank you in advance,

Alessandro

I'm definitely pushing my own wagon here, but:

And all the stats of the units are on cards (using a saga-like activation system) so the manual isn't generally necessary during the game. I haven't printed one yet.

The game is now in beta, there are people working on digital armylists and extra factions, and for the moment the game is still free.
And it definitely checks all the boxes above!

Cheers
Jack

Squad Hammer definitely fits the bill, I recently grabbed the Bundle of Space Hammers pdf package from Wargame Vault.

Just play HoTT? Large tanks as Behemoths etc?

HoTT can work well for sci-fi, but - oddly - you might get more out of D3H2, the unofficial combined DBA 3.0/HotT 2.0 rules. You can get them from Tom Thomas on the Fanaticus forums (and here too, sometimes), although you need to have both rulebooks to use them.

One reason that they might work well for sci-fi is that shooting ranges are longer and there are more varied missile-using troops (Bows and Crossbows as well as Shooters, plus Psiloi, who would work well as scouts, etc.). And there are Fast and Solid versions of all troop types, which gives you more variety yet.

Also, it's probably worth looking at this thread (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EVK9-jRU8AA0iDm.jpg) if you haven't already.
