Title: Move to Gloucestershire UK
Post by: racm32 on January 14, 2022, 04:26:42 PM
Hello all. In May I will be moving from the US to somewhere in the Cotswolds area, most likely living in the south eastern corner of the county Gloucestershire. I am looking for any wargaming clubs in the area, other wargamers, and wargames store recommendations. I live in East Anglia from 2011-2014 so I know the country is rife with excellent wargaming clubs filled with great wargaming chaps.

There's a Forest of Dean gamers group on FB.

I moved from Gloucestershire last April - there's a club in Slimbridge that is supposed to meet in the Tudor arms. Most of the clubs I heard of were in Bristol (Lincombe Barn wargamers perhaps being the most varied, although there is.another associated with the Bristol Independent Gaming store).

Hi,
Really nice part of the world. I used to live near Cirencester, but I've since moved to Germany. There are several clubs around and even a Cotswolds wargames show. I'm not sure how many clubs are still meeting regularly, but I have been, at one point in time or another to clubs in: South Cerney (I'm not sure it had a club name), Cirencester (Cirencester Wargames Club), Cheltenham (cannot remember the club name), Bath (Bath Wargamers) , Bristol (Lincombe Barn), and Frome (the Abbeywood Irregulars). I'm also aware there are gamers/clubs around the Swindon, Fairford area. But I never made it there.
The best bet to get in touch with people who organise the Cotswolds wargames show. They might be able to point you to the right people, that's assuming the right people don't find you first!
Best,
Ed

Of course nipping across the border into God's own country (Wales) you have the magnificent 'Firestorm Games' gaming store and wargames centre 50m away in Newport (and another 60m away in Cardiff). There was a small wargaming group in Chepstow (30m away) called Hobbits Hole Gaming Group but I don't know if they survived the Covid lockdowns and restrictions.

Thank you every one for the wealth of information. Looks like I'll have plenty of opportunity to get my game on.
