Title: My Napoleon: A Unique Tony Barton Figure?
Post by: Jemima Fawr on January 21, 2022, 01:22:17 PM
I expect that 95% of Napoleonic gamers here will have their own Napoleon figure, but here's mine.  As far as I know, he's a unique* figure by Tony Barton, the supreme being behind Battle Honours and AB Figures.

He was originally modelled as a master Mk 2 Napoleon figure for Battle Honours, but was rejected.  For some reason he never then made it into the AB Figures range and Tony sculpted a whole new (though very similar) Napoleon figure for AB Figures.

I'd be very interested to know if anyone else has the same figure.

* When I say 'unique', Tony will normally create his own drop-cast mould from the original sculpture and then cast off a dozen or so master figures for the mould-maker to make the production mould, so there were probably around a dozen of these Napoleons made.

Jemima your Napoleonic collection is just fantastic!  ;D

I'd be very interested to know if anyone else has the same figure.

Not me. But as you say, the AB Napoleon is pretty darn close.

Here is mine:

Gorgeous painting there Ray!  :-*

Yes, someone did immediately say "I've got the same figure!" but it's the AB one.  I've no idea why Tony bothered re-modelling him!

Gorgeous brushwork! I'm always amazed at the brilliance some people have painting AB's 18mm figures!

Are you sure that’s not Rod Steiger?  ;)

Somewhere I have the dismounted version. Buggered if I know where it is.

I actually have four masters of Boney in my little drawer : The original BH version , in Fimo; and two slightly variant versions in metal which include the current AB one ; and an unissued 1790s figure. There's also another head. At this distance in time I can't recall when or why  made the one you have , but although it looks familiar , I don't seem to have it myself !

 lol

Flippin'eck!  That's really interesting.  Thanks Tony!  :D

I think I'd best deploy the standard Antiques Roadshow response: "Well he's part of the family now and I could never sell him..." ;)

As mentioned above, Mike's story was that he was a Mk2 Napoleon figure for Battle Honours, but was rejected and then didn't make it into the AB range for some reason.

Blurred pict but, at least for me, beautiful and very interesting....always a pleasure to detect Airfix soldiers still in activity...if, by any chance, do you have some other picts of your Airfix/Plastic armies in action to post ..maybe even in another dedicated topic ..i'll really love to see them....sorry for the hijacking ... closed parenthesis :-X ;)
