Had a bit lof luck getting more of these chaps, Cavalry being particualy difficult to get hold of, Caliver only have 2. Gundermen Pike, Zamoran Spearmen/Town Guard, Hykranian Lancers, Khojan Knights (Painted as Mercanaries) Mid Western Lancers and Aquilonian Knights (Some had lost axes in the dark depths of time so a few new bits added) These chaps are based for Fantastic Battles and will be in a game "By Crom it's Conan" (But not as much detail as a modern sculpt!) at Legionary, Exeter in May.
Now it is off to do Italian Wars at Beachead!
-
All very nice, but I particularly like the Hyrkanian lancers as an example of how varied painting distracts the eye from the fact that all the castings are the same (ignoring horse variations…)
As I have been painting old Minifg MEs, I am coming to think that there is a virtue in getting reasonably painted figures on the table quickly; the details are mostly lost en masse, so simpler is probably better (IMHO, of course) for figures intended for mass battle games.
-
Wonderful to see them come to life!
-
More Minifigs S&S chaps, allies of the evil wizard To-Me-ku-Pa for his invasion of the West. Nomadic horse archers, Turan infantry, Khojan Infantry and Zamoran Infantry.
-
Very nice !!
-
Lovely collection!
-
A few more, some Shemite Horse Archers, more Desert Nomands, another unit of Hykranians, 2 more units to do, and a un it of "Zamporians" painted as Turan infantry.
-
Another unit of Hykranian Cavalry (3 of 4 now complete) the Vendyians with some new newly painted units with a couple of conversions for Officers and a Standard Bearer, Hykranian Infantry who will be general levy Infantry, Bosonian Archers and a Western commander.
-
Once again simply wonderful. Wish Dave at Caliver would get more re-released!
-
Thanks Dozing, my self and one other have sent him a load of figures to be used to remake the molds,
Cavalry are the main thing missing, but hopefully he will be able to use the ones I sent. Not sure of the time scale though.
-
Brilliant stuff
-
You have done a great job bringing the Hyborian Age to life with this project!
-
Few more done, Hykranian Indantry, had a surplus of officers so gave a few axes, Zamporian Town Guard painted as Turan Immortals, Black Legion and Mid Western Spearmen, (most of the Mid Western Spearmen from Australia, but I need lots and they are difficult to get hold of!)
-
Wonderful - these armies are really shaping up nicely.
-
Some of the Alexander Nevski Knights that formed the basis of my Good Knights back in the late 70s. These will now need adding to to build up 3 full 12 man units to sit along side my S&S stuff, 3 Knights (Aquilonian) 6 Knights (Nemedian) & 3 for the Nemedian Guard
-
Those look great. For me less detailed figures are more fun to paint. Hundreds of highly detailed figures can be overwhelming.
Great show.
-
Thanks, they are wonderful figures, and make a difference having recently finished 120 Polish pancerni and Russian Boyars, with no figure the same! The good news is more cavalry are available from Caliver books and I have a load more coming from the states, my game at Exeter, 12 May, is likely to need a bigger table!
-
More old school stuff, my fleet of Hinchliffe Elephants, a Barbarian and Eastern Infantry, some Northmen, Zumas Infantry, some based as light infantry and a couple of Minifigs Egyptian Chariots, could not bring myself to paint the horses as Zebras as per the books! Will need one for the evil wizard To-Me-Ku-Pa with black horses. Good news is Caliver have released more Cavalry in the S&S range
-
Another brilliant display.
-
More Minifigs S&S chaps, Zamorans and Eastern Spearmen/ Swordsmen painted as part of the Turan force. Infantry coming on well now, a few more units to do, pleased to see more Cavalry are now available from Caliver Books.
-
Again, nice work
-
Thanks for sharing - really enjoy these as a lifelong fan of the Hyborian Age!
-
And a few more, foot soldiers of the evil wizard To-Me-Ku-Pa nearly finished! (Although the Picts may be neutral) Picts, Khojans, Shemites and more Hykranians.
-
Fantastic!
-
A few more chaps, Bossonian archers, more Gundermen pike, Western swordsmen, Western Mercanaries (Black Legion with a touch of colour) Western Knights (From a surplus of Western Standard bearers) Skeletons and faceless men. The latter, I think, are based on story with Conan and a gang of pirates on a mysterious island.
-
Final Vandyan and Hykranian Cavalry, Cimmerians, Turanian Lancers x 2 variations and Stygian bowmen. Some more Eastern Units and chariots, Western Cavalry then some terrain pieces, should be on track for the big game at Legionary 7 May 22.
-
These guys are a lot better off in your hands being painted than they were in my basement waiting for … something. It all looks very inspiring!
-
Cheers, they are certainly coming on, should be a good game on 7 May at Legionary, Exeter. Will be certain to get photos up.
-
Progress report, last Mid Western foot, spearmen and swordsmen. Eastern light lancers, Khojan light lancers and Mid Western Knights. Finally some command figures, the wizard is not from the S&S range but he is a splendid figure! Soon be time to get to work on some terrain.
-
The wizard is VFW93, from Minifigs Valley of the Four Winds range; an impressive fellow…
-
Blimey those pictures bring back some memories - brilliant!
-
Tor-Me-Ku-Pa in his chariot, with a couple of acolytes, one of whom is very un PC in the original 70s listing! No colour on the chariot except yellow eyes and green snakes! 2 more Stygian chariots ( All chariots Minifigs historical ). Western Knights and The Black Dragons ( Poitavian Knights in a natty black scheme)
-
Very nice, I'd forgotten that pose wielding 2-handed swords on horseback! lol
-
More great work on the Hyborian Age!
-
Looking fantastic.
-
Last S&S chaps done for the moment, Gundermen Pike, Western Knights, Eastern Lancers and Elite Eastern Lancers. Sadly I am no longer attending Legionary this weekend but aim to get a big scrap on the table soon.
