Lovely work mate 8)

Wow, wonderful….

Fantastic painting Jon! :-* :-*
-
Beautiful stuff Jon…. But you knew I’d say that ;)
-
Excellent!
A work of rare precision. I see only one mistake - Russian soldier's greatcoats were not made of khaki cloth, only various shades of undyed cloth (from light gray to gray-brown).
-
Thanks, all 8)

Correct if I'm wrong (and I'll happily bow down to your knowledge on the topic) but weren't the WW1 issue greatcoats khaki/earth brown?
The thought for these were a unit that has been on campaign for a while so a certain amount of irregularity and begged/borrowed/stolen/personal kit rather than a unit straight out of their barracks.

Very very nice - INPIRING!

Cuprum is always right!

Stunner! Ace job there Dags!

The Russian overcoat for the lower ranks of the army and guards units was made only from undyed cloth from the beginning of the 19th century (with a few rare exceptions). For officers, the overcoat was steel gray (although many also preferred to have a soldier's overcoat in wartime). This statement is true until the 70s of the 20th century, when overcoats began to be dyed brown - but these are the ones you will see in films and for any other period, since they are easier and cheaper to purchase from army warehouses, where they are probably are still stored today.
During the Civil War, overcoats in Soviet Russia could be made from various surrogates and protective colors could be found there (I read, for example, about tailoring overcoats from billiard cloth). Here is the formation of the soldiers of the Czechoslovak Legion in Vladivostok. One of the soldiers has an overcoat sewn from "civilian" checkered fabric:

During the Second World War, for sewing overcoats of the Soviet army, imported cloth supplied by Lend-Lease was partially used. It was khaki, but the number of such overcoats was scanty against the general background and was not typical.
Here are the approved samples of the colors of the cloths that were used for sewing overcoats (here - the period of the First World War). Moreover, it was light shades that predominated - dark cloth was used much less frequently (just pet hair was more often than light colors). In one military unit, they tried to have overcoats of the same shade, but in wartime, of course, they did not pay attention to this.

Those look the dogs b******s Dags, reminds me I’ve got some of your RCWs stored away, must get them out on the table again.
And I’m always intrigued by the idea of saying “well yes, it is cold out here and that coat does look warm and comfy, but according to the regs, it’s the wrong colour so put it back”.
I also want to add a figure to my collection in a civilian chequered cloth fabric and perhaps one in billiard cloth :)
-
OK, so if I've got this right for the future....
Various Greys and Grey-Brown - Tick
Billiard Green - Tick
Checkered - Tick
Khaki - Big Fat Cross
And I’m always intrigued by the idea of saying “well yes, it is cold out here and that coat does look warm and comfy, but according to the regs, it’s the wrong colour so put it back”.
My thought entirely.

Please tell me you haven't got the biplane with "Go **** your mother" painted in Russian on the side of it? Colour me embarrassed (definitely not khaki) if you have....

Lovely paintwork Jon 8)

First batch of a ****load of Cossacks (****load is a technical term)

As with the infantry, a unit that has been on campaign for a while and has a fair bit of replaced/begged/borrowed and stolen kit, sometimes even in the wrong colours.

Very nice again, I particularly like the chap at front right who seems to be experiencing the final stages of physical climax.

They are lovely.
Why no lances? I find that lancers make the best looking units.

Lovely painting Dags. I wish I had used those oval bases now. I liked the rounded look but my 40mm circles, copying the GW Middle Earth basing, are a bit too big. Yours look better.

Unfortunately the only open handed figures that Copplestone did were in the standard bearers pack and you get three out of the four options randomly. I got two in Caucasian dress in my pack. Not much use for my Orenburg Cossacks. I could get several packs more but that might leave me with a lot more Caucasian Cossack lancer figures and if memory serves thodr regiments didn't even have lances.

Mark - That’ll be my fault! Dags is only painting what I sent him. I’ll have to send him some of those Paul Hicks Empress sculpts because, yes, lancers are what all the cool kids are using 👍

Yeah, Caucasian Cossacks didn't use the lance, so that wouldn't be much help.
