Seem to be painting nowt but Russians (of various eras) at the moment. Got so many on the table it's starting to look like Ukraine....

Colour aside, the way the old Russians wear those berets is outstanding. The beret is a fairly naff bit of headwear to start with but the Russians managed to take it to new heights. Perhaps only Michael Crawford came close to realising a similar level of comedic potential in the simple boina.
Mind you, I fancied Chaka Khan in her beret but I would have fancied her in anything.

A Bridge Too…. Fark!!! A Story of the Far Canal.
I’m planning a reserve demolition game, based loosely on the prosaically titled British Army training film ‘The Demolition Guard’. A diverted platoon of Soviet Air Assault troops will definitely feature. If you haven’t seen the flick, it’s worth it for scenario fodder.

My tank platoon was tasked with one of those bridge jobs when I was a tank platoon leader in Germany in the mid-80s. A bridge over the Main a few miles east of Schweinfurt.
And the one chap did say they repulsed one heliborne assault- maybe their Blowpipes worked better!

It makes a nice change to re-watching episodes of Kir Royal and Die schnelle Gerdi, a period in German television I like to think of as peak Senta Berger.*
*Purely for research purposes mind. Nothing to do with the particular charms of a certain Austrian actress then in her mid-forties. ;)
