I have been working on a terrain piece for a game we are hosting on behalf of Pendraken to celebrate the launch of the CWC II ruleset. The game is set in 1985 and will see Soviet and East German forces supported by VDV attempt to gain a foothold on the northern bank of the Kiel Canal in and around Rendsburg. Now Rendsburg is famous for the Rendsburg Loop and the Rendsburg High Bridge which allows trains to cross the Kiel Canal without obstructing the large cargo ships on the canal below.
Now looking at pictures of the High Bridge I wasn't sure whether it would be possible to represent the bridge in a 6mm game but I really wanted to try. So this is my WIP representation of the Rendsburg High Bridge in 6mm.

I'll be posting more information on the parts used for the bridge and more photos of the bridge over on the Cold War Commanders blog https://coldwarcommanders.blogspot.com/ (https://coldwarcommanders.blogspot.com/)
Thanks for looking and stay safe!

Gosh that really is an expansive bridge - even in 6mm it's impressive in size - feel sorry for any forces trying to cross it - look forward to seeing it in-game.
Also, be a great piece of terrain for a railway setup.
-
Brilliant stuff and really inspiring!
-
Great work on the bridge, with that as a vertical element it should really up the table's visual appeal! Bringing in large scenic pieces of terrain for sweeping vistas on the table is the best part of 6mm scale.
-
That is going to be some centre piece.
-
That looks very impressive!
Just curious- where did you get the train tracks? I am hoping to add a railway line to my WW2/Cold War collection and am looking for tracks. I found some 2D paper ones, but 3D would be even better…
-
Many thanks!
The railway tracks are from a company called Commission Figurines in the UK

6mm scale is 1/285th, isn't it? "Z" gauge is 1/220th scale and you could even use real model railway tracks and German rolling stock for it. Anyway, fantastic interpretation of the Hochdonn Rendsburg bridge.
-
Cardophillipo, thank you very much for the information about the supplier, these tracks seem exactly like what I need!

That's for another scenario! ;) ;)

"It's a mother beautiful bridge!" :D ;)

Great work - this is where the smaller scales really come into their own 8)

Thanks for all the great comments. Just a quick update on the progress on the table for our 6mm game that will be at the Partizan show later this month plus the Joy of Six show in July and Britcon in August.

Wow! That is super impressive! Looks like a real place.
One little suggestion, perhaps add a coat or two of gloss varnish to the river, to make it look more like water?

Looks great :)

Thanks Fred as I said the table is still WIP that grey colour is just the primer coat. I've still got to paint and varnish it.

Excellent work, enjoy Partisan. I could have covered for Andy's absence, but unfortunately have family commitments

Look forward to seeing the table in all its glory tomorrow 8)

Fantastic looking table

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. Some photos of the table all set up with a game in progress at Partizan last Sunday.

Great looking table - and the commanders really do look like they were witnesses of the cold war. How did the 6th Panzergrenadierdivision perform against the red tide?
-
The quality of the games at Partizan keeps going up and up - for a 6mm game to hold its own in that company was impressive enough.
The table looked great, even better than the photos do justice 8)

Agreed. This was a very detailed game for 6mm and the bridge was wonderful. :-*

Thanks everyone for your kind words. If any of you are planning on visiting Sheffield in July for the wonderful Joy of Six show please come along and say hello. We are taking the XXL table!
