Title: Mammoth gets heretical - 15mm horus heresy.
Post by: Mammoth miniatures on May 08, 2022, 10:21:42 PM
Right - time for a new distraction.

As some of you may have seen, I've been chronicling my attempts to sculpt miniatures using MS paint and microsoft 3d builder over at this thread :https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=134034.msg1701753#msg1701753 (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=134034.msg1701753#msg1701753)

My two most recent creations are a 15mm mk1 rhino and some 15mm space marines.
IT turns out this has scratched a previously undiscovered itch and now I want to give some horus heresy gaming a go. Most likely using planet 28 (duh) but possibly not.

Anyway, Here's where we're at so far...

A captain of the ultramarines, Power sword and bolt pistol at the ready.

His faithful guards, first of many troops to come.

So small...so precious...

The first traitor units in the works, A sons of horus rhino. I went for a brighter green to keep things a bit oldschool.

The other thread is going to chronicle the actual sculpting of the miniatures and all the various digital gubbins, This thread will be all about the painting and playing side of things.

In the mean time, Let's keep things moody...

I can't tell you how tempted I am to follow you down this rabbit hole...  :D

Loving what you're achieving already with this project. Also, I suspect it'll be a bit cheaper than buying the new 30K box set...  ::)

I think this is just my subconcious trying to save my money by stopping me buying that box. lol

I think WH40k, particularly more old-school figures, looks great in this scale. Impressive digital sculpting. Well done!

For me, anything that's not 28 is the way of the devil, but after seeing this I'm sorely tempted lol

Begone  ye temptress o_o

I always thought that GW ignoring 15mm was a great mistake and still do.

Keep up the great work.  :-*

Agreed - I've said many times that 40k works rather well if you keep everything the same - army size, table size, terrain size - But make the actual miniatures 15mm. Suddenly tanks have room to move, infantry aren't just blobs of cannon fodder etc.

Lovely work.
Shows what one can do with perseverance, you are an inspiration.

I always wish that GW did 15mm plastics but look at it this way, I think that other companies like Gzg, Brigade, Khurasan, to name but a few, would have been hard pressed to compete & perhaps would not have made the models they did. I will also mention KMFP who does some super ranges in 3d.

Keep it up & thanks for sharing.

I see someone else is going 15mm as well.  Just a couple of the armies I am working on to play some games locally.

Sculpted a chaplain and gave him a speedy paintjob.
(I was sure there were no chaplains in the heresy outside of the word bearers.)

Cool, coming along splendidly, a fine addition. Fondly remembering Epic 40K right about now. I might even actually play 40K again if they did it in a smaller scale. Thanks for sharing, will be following to see where you go with this but definitely a great start.

Happy to know you're all as amused by tiny marines as i am!

I've now got a few combat squads lined up to paint (once I get into work on thursday I can spray them all.)

I've also uploaded the STL files for all the units so far to patreon and wargames vault for anyone interested.
Patreon is cheaper by far.

I'm just editing some extra poses and making the actual parts more mobile, then it's onto assault marines and land raiders.

Nice work, I have a friend who is doing wonderful 18mm Horus Heresy stuff.  It's absolutely the better scale for games like 40K (where the armies get bigger...and the tables get smaller).

While obviously GW would never endorse it, I think 15-20mm is the perfect scale for that stuff.

More awesome work.

It's that I'm already heavily invested in 28mm (and 6mm) 40K lines, because this would have been a very nice scale to pursue otherwise...
