Hi Guys
Suggestions please . lol
Who does the nicest 28mm Cretan Archers ?
Cheers

Great question. I'm into the same topic currently. I've ordered some from Relic, Victrix, Aventine and Saga Age of Hannibal, as well as kitbashing Wargames factory plastic Numidians and Greek Hoplites so I'll be able to give a sensible answer soon :)
Top pic - Relic armoured Cretans ( a bit small)
Lower Pic - Aventine

Aventine again

IMHO the Wargames Foundry figures are still the best sculps out there
-
I like foundry too
cheers

I’d vote for Foundry who produce 3 packs of archers in their “World of the Greeks” range. One is labelled “Cretan” but IMHO all would work. Superb sculpts but pricey at £14 for 8 figures. I think Foundry also have quite a high minimum P&P charge. Aventine are in a different sculpting style, and at £5,50 for 4 a lot cheaper.
I use both manufactures in different armies.
A&A Miniatures also have a pack of Cretans in their Macedonian range. Quite nice and the cheapest of the 3 at £9.60 for 8 figures. They have also been quite flexible in selling me extra figures, something Foundry don’t do.
Cheers

crocodile games also do cool looking greek archers in " heroic 28mm" . I might need to get some :)

Gentlemen
Thank you all for the valued feed back . :-*
I do have lots of Different Archers all ready but no Cretans .
I think I will go with the Relic figures .. they look a bit more Regular and Professional ... like I imagine the Cretan Archers being Premier Mercenaries would look .
In addition Relic have some Nice Rhodian and Thracian Slingers that look good.
Cheers
Ps Just in case you didnt know , a less well known Brand Scarab Miniatures have a Wonderful Range of Ancient Greeks.
In addition they match almost perfectly in with Foundrys Greek Range .. which are the Best Range out there, IMHO.

I like to mix and match. Men are not the same size and build and skirmishers look best with multiple poses.
Here is my introduction to Early Successor armies.

Here are some ideas for fanciful Cretan shield designs. These include Foundry and the original Relic 28mm line with box quivers (since refined) :

I agree that the later Relic figure with helmet is a nice addition. But I don't think the armor was common.
There is even a link to my twenty year old page with old Foundry (small) 28mm and Essex figures, and even, shudder, the days of 25mm.

inspiring stuff JJonas. Actually I'm just completing some Agrianians , heavily influenced by your guys and Ancient Warfare magazine. The Cretans are next !
-
I love the Foundry Cretans- must have a hundred of them, with other minis mixed in, with added shields etc.
-
I use Foundry's, nice minis but expensive! They have other "greek" archers that you probably could mix with these to get some variation, just add some shields!
Note though that there, for some reason, are only SEVEN in a pack, and not eight (as in basically all other packs).

I only wish the new Foundry Cretans had some of the interesting poses of their earlier offerings.
But just about any Greek archers will do with added bucklers. It's one of the Successor army troop types that have an abundance of models to choose from.
Here is my reference sheet of variations.

Oh damn! Now I'll have to order them too. They do look cool. Already ordered these today. I thought they'd be great for Cretan Archers....

I'm quite partial to Aventine's stuff.
