I really have to get round to trying to make one of these - I am for some reason apprehensive and nervous about trying one.

My apprehension is warping/folding.    Maybe rare earth magnets in the corners, bound to the table, would fix said, if warping,raised edges was in fact a problem

Mats will lift slightly at the edges, but the gravel in yours should  prevent  it. I have four different caulk mats I've made over the years, the oldest is now over a decade old. It is showing its age but that is mostly flocking wearing off. Never had the caulk separate from the sheet.
