Has anyone gammed the Italo - Turkish War, 1912?

I have been hoarding miniatures and reference literature for years....but its still way back in the painting que. The main challenge I have met is to find suitable miniatures for the Italian native troops. Maybe you have some insights there?

Shawn Taylor, author of Great War Spearhead II, has. He is preparing scenarios for the upcoming GWSH II supplement. Shawn is a member of this Forum, so feel free to pose any questions.

This is my next project now I have finished off my 1918 project. I have picked up the 15mm Battlepack from Irregular Miniatures (https://irregularminiatures.co.uk/indexes/15mmindex.htm (https://irregularminiatures.co.uk/indexes/15mmindex.htm)) to start with and then will add some "flavour" units to bother sides. Things like Eritrean soldiers for the Italians, Libyan Irregulars for the Ottoman forces etc.

My plan is to use my own adaptation (see below) of Nordic Weaseal's Trench Hammer (https://www.wargamevault.com/product/229525/Trench-Hammer-WW1-fighting-on-the-cheaprules).  I really enjoy these as a base set of rules to build from and add the conflict idiosyncrasies.

Sand Hammer:

Modifications for Italo-Turkish War

Small scale -
Units of 6 infantry and 4 cavalry. (Purely aesthetic).

Unprepared vs Irregular -
Orders are a single d6 for both sides.

Distinguished Units -
Certain units can be selected as Distinguished. (Alpini, Bersalgalri, Nichandjy Thabourou etc.). These units receive a +1 bonus to any Cohesion Damage they apply to an enemy.

Jaws of the Sahara -
Random events occur on a natural roll of 1 for Orders. Roll 2d6 on the following chart:

2: Avanti! An Italian Rifle unit arrives on the Italian board edge. (Once per game. Count as No Event once rolled.)
3: Low ammunition. No units may not fire on the next player's activation.
4: Heatstroke. One random Italian unit on the board takes d3 Cohesion Damage.
5: Dust Clouds. No firing over 12” for the next player's activation.
6: Tutto tranquillo. No Event
7: All quiet. No Event
8: Tamamen sesiz. No Event
9: Sandstorm. One random unit moves 2d6” in a random direction.
10: Italian Air Support. One random Turkish unit on the board takes d3 Cohesion Damage.
11: Low Supplies. No units may not move on the next player's activation.
12: Uprising! A Turkish Irregular or Cavalry unit (Turkish players choice) arrives on a random board edge. (Once per game. Count as No Event once rolled.)

The Italian army assembled and ready for painting. This force is made up of two units of Riflemen, a unit of Alpini, a unit of Bersalgari, a unit of Eritrean Colonial Infantry, a Machine Gun and a Field Gun.

And the Ottoman/Libyan forces. These have four units of Riflemen, a unit of Arab Cavalry, a unit of Arab Irregulars, a Machine Gun and a Field Gun (which I don’t think will see much action!)

Very nice, and love the “Sand Hammer” moniker. The random events are a great idea. They are not too imposing but add a little extra to the proceedings. I may adapt them to my own Palestine Trench Hammer game (Brits/Arabs vs Germans/Turks).

I play in 28mm and have plenty of Turks. But this makes me eye the WW1 Italians from Brigade Games. They make Alpini but sadly no Bersaglieri.

I have these which I find compatible with the Brigade models:
