Glad you've joined this one Svennn  8)

Where do you get the Elmers glue from (not that I need any, just out of interest)

cheers

I wanted to post just to show my intent to participate and I get two replies already :?

Elmers comes from The Works or some such sell through book chain. I think they have started re-labelling it under their own name now but its the same bottles. Bloody good stuff any rate. :)

If I was not doing canal sections for somebody else I may have had something to show by now.

I have made my decision on what I am building now though ;D

Dont let my canal fetish get in the way of your creations my good man.

What's it going to be then?

Well I have not got far but have least made a start. I purposefully did not draw up any plans and am winging it as I go. I do have a goal in mind but do not want to get bogged down in details.

Changed the thread title so everyone knows what I am trying to do. I have had a mad plan to build a Victorian take on Thunderbird 2 - all wood and brass - for a long long time. Not a lot of time to model at present so decided to start a little smaller. I have got a little further and it is starting to take shape
(http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w198/svennnthedhnut/JollyBob276.jpg)(http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w198/svennnthedhnut/JollyBob277.jpg)(http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w198/svennnthedhnut/JollyBob278.jpg)(http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w198/svennnthedhnut/JollyBob279.jpg)(http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w198/svennnthedhnut/JollyBob280.jpg)

I wanted it to look like the original (from 200 years later) but after studying some pictures have been working from memory so it hopefully has its own feel.

The big question I am struggling with is whether to paint it yellow or somehow do it with gold/brass metallics to make it look more Victorian???????

You can't go wrong with brass and Victoriana, Svenn. Bet you could combine the two color scheme ideas. Maybe yellow with brasswork on the edges?

Thunderbird 4 :o :o
I think the shape is distinctive enough. I don’t think you need the yellow paint. Go with the Victorian brass colour scheme. :-* :-*

Looking forward to seeing this one. I'd put some kind of curve/point at the front though, the Victorians did have an understanding of hydrodynamics and even with that big square at the front being an intake, I'd hate to try and pilot it.

Worn, but polished brass and heavily varnished wood  :D

Cool idea, any crew to go with it (and a Tbird 2 for it to go in  ;D )

cheers

Victorian Thunderbird, marvellous!

What about a similar colour scheme to the Coulport?

So that's 4, the little yellow sub, right?

Will you be building the honking great green transporter too?  :o

Looking good anyway, very cool idea.  :)

Surely crying out to be painted in verdigris.  8)
Taking the idea to a logical ( ::)) conclusion, you could build all the Thunderbird craft along with Tracey Island in a VSF version.
No pressure, you still have 7 weeks. ;)

Gah, see now I have an image of a Tracy Island build using the original Crystal Palace and Alton Towers as inspiration for the building with a proper High Victorian garden system.............. thankfully not possible in my current house :P

Ah well, I see it more as a Steel Foundry/Mill upt'North with a steam powered opening roof and rocket housing chimney etc etc. - Geoff Tracy more of a Geoff Arkwright kind of thing?

Bit more done but I have had to stop with rivet blindness (good luck AirCav Keith as I think you have a lot more than me to do)

Coing together nicly there Svennn, are there going to be a little row of portholes on the side.

You have to make a Tbird 2 now  :D

I cut them out of plasticard sheet - honest. :D

BUT I used a paper punch designed for crafting/card making.

I have a Mole waiting in the wings :)

Am I going to be disappointing you lot when I don't build a "2"? ;D

Thanks for that OL. I have actually got copies of the original plans of nearly all the Anderson craft - comes from being a long standing member of Fanderson and being perhaps just a little bit too much of an anorak :'(

I have to keep telling myself is there any point building a craft that fills the table and doesn't even have any weapons??????

Being a fanderson you will probably know better than me but did the original not have torpedoes ???

I think I have finished the build bit? Can't wait to see it with a spray undercoat now TBH but must admit I am not relishing painting it. Quite fancy airbrushing it but the biggest problem with that is I do not have an airbrush :'(

Anyways, what you reckon?

Why is it that you're already finished when I'm not even done with the basic shape?

Great work, like the windows, and the ornaments come out great!

Zafarelli, Svennn simply is fast while you are slow...  :D
(Ducks and feels guilty because of not being able to enter this great competition himself.)

Wow. What I like most are the green windows and the ornaments. The gold came out nicely and gives a great victorian feel to it. Wish I could see it in person next weekend.
I am not too fond of the nose because we seem to use the same brand of superglue and I instantly recognized the shape of it, but that's just me.
(Ducks again)

Great entry, you should be getting an extra award for being that fast in all that neatness!

I think Thunderbird 2 would look great as a zepplin, with different cargo crates for each of the mini 'birds, would really suit the theme. Like this alot.

Lovely paint job. :-* :-*
Really like the effect you have achieved on the metal. :-* :-*
Love the lettering and numbering, are they all decals?

Now for the bad bit :'(
But I am afraid I have to agree with Vikotnik I am not keen on the nose. I not sure the shape fits the rest of the body.

By Jove, it´s lovely.  :'(

I actually like the nose´ shape (see above), but the red paint puts me off a bit. Maybe keep it brass like the rest, or steel/silver to represent Isambard Kingdom Brunel´s Minuscule Submersible Hull Penetration Apparatus (patent pending).

Thanks all. I think it needs tweeking a little but as always I rushed it a bit.

Mac - Yes I made decals for the letters & numbers and then shaded them by hand with a brush and acrylics.

Admiral - You get them from the box in my wifes hobby room ;) Seriously though, cardmaking/scrapbooking hobby shops. There seem to be hundreds of them over here and Stateside, I have certainly been dragged around most of them :'(

This was the first I found on google so its not a recommendation or anything but hopefully will give you a better idea of what you are looking for.

and this a quick evilbay search
http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1311&_nkw=craft+punches&_sacat=See-All-Categories

There are lots and lots of girly designs - hearts/flowers etc. but you can find a few gems.
