Title: My AWI Collection
Post by: kingsmt on July 23, 2022, 08:56:33 AM
I have begun cataloging and taking photographs of my AWI Collection.

The storage boxes are from U-Line and were packed in a great hurry when I moved several years ago.

You can see from the picture, that I lined the box with magnetic sheeting.
That's how I store all my minis.

In another pic, you can see that I print Avery labels of the Regiments name and attach them to the undersides of the bases.

The first Regiment up is the Albany Militia.
More to come.

Still on Box Number One.
Inside are the 2 ND, 3 RD and 4 TH NY.
We complete the NY state of mind by adding in the Albany Militia.

I probably should have mentioned in the opening post the there are about 25 of these boxes.
And then once we run out of boxes, we can delve into the cabinets.

The cabinets are for another time. I just want to get through theses boxes first.

Lovely collection, protecting the figures from movement by lining the box with steel paper and magnetising bases before a house move has likely saved you a ton of heartache …… the voice of experience says :-(

You are quite welcome!  lol

It is easy, just always keep in mind there is exactly One alternative to getting older.  Thus, I don't complain about getting old - and I ain't no spring chicken.  May we both continue to get older for a long, long time to come.

More cool stuff.

25 boxes, roughly four units per box so far, and averaging close to 30 figures per unit, some 24, some 36 so far, that means you might have 3,000 figures painted for the AWI!  That is impressive.  And who knows what awaits when you get those cabinets you mentioned.

Do you have a blog?  Might recommend as a way to catalog your collection that would be more readily accessible for purposes of insurance or, ack, disposition one day.  Also, a blog can 'host' your photos for posting here.  Just a thought.

Enjoying seeing your collection - and just might be using it as reference as I work on my own 15 mm collection.

Box Number 6 makes it appearance.

First, I wanted to show the actual boxes.
You can see the listings of the contents on the sides of the boxes.

When I opened Box Number 6,  I was shocked to discover an entire Regiment of Mad Anthony Wayne's Legion!!
I believe that these are Old Glory figures and they painted up quite nicely.
A very nice looking Regiment.

But they didn't exist in the AWI period!!

We'll move on in the next post.

After that come the 2 ND Canadian or Congress' Own.
Next are the 3 RD Connecticut.
Followed by Washington's Guards.
And finally the 1 ST North Carolina.

That concludes Box Number 7. I hope that you enjoyed it.

If I count as a 'loyal' follower - you haven't worn me out, just away with other foci (focuses?).  Just don't call me a Loyalist, I am a die hard Patriot force man, descended from a signatory of the Declaration of Independence no less!   ;)

Will need more time to peruse and appreciate all the additions but, yes, please do keep them coming.  It just may be part of what inspired me to prepare bases for well over half of my own AWI figures - and that is a lot of figures so a lot of bases.

What I glanced at looks good.  Will be back for more, for sure.

British and Hessians are well represented and will be along presently.

I see you've teased us with some of them.  Looking forward to more... :D

You're AWI collection puts mine to shame, amount-wise.  I reckon you could host quite the battle... ;)

Like that you don't have all the units fully identified - allows them to fill in/stand in where needed for actual or even hypothetical battles.

When you get some time, I'd like to hear about your approach to flags, especially for the American side of things, the British are a little easier.

I suppose I should let the good Mr. kingsmt answer for himself :D, but I use random period colors for my AWI Continental and Militia units.  They tend to stand in for a myriad of historical units depending on the scenario we're playing, so I don't worry if they are unit-specific.  I know that's heresy for some folks, but it's my story... :)

OK! Back with a glimpse into a British box!!

So, I opened this box (which was just marked "British") only to discover about 100 different British Light Infantry and Grenadiers!!

All mounted singly on washers?
What the hell was I thinking?

Anyway, this box will prove that the British do exist.

A quick tease of what was in the box.
2 stands of Grenadiers and 2 stands of Highlanders were in there also.

Okay then.  Interesting start to His Majesty's forces.  Perhaps you wanted single-based skirmish-capable flank co. nen?

CapnJim,   Yes, that appears to have been my motive. Single movement as opposed to group moves. It's the only thing that makes any sense.
