Title: Royal Air Force Museum (Midlands) RAF Cosford
Post by: carojon on July 30, 2022, 09:29:10 AM
Earlier this month I got to visit RAF Cosford which is, with Hendon, part of the RAF Museums and hold a very interesting collection of aircraft, and military vehicles covering both world wars and the Cold War era.

Having visited Hendon several times, Cosford made for an interesting and personally evocative visit, holding many types within its collection that compliments the former museum.

Thank you for that JJ, a very interesting and thorough post about an amazing museum with some excellent aircraft. My brother flew in Nimrods (accordingly more like falling in style) until decommissioned but my personal favourites have to be the pup, 1 1/2 strutter and the Brisfit.

Thank you for posting,
Andrew

Great write up - as a cadet I did my glider training at Cosford as well as various wing events so have many happy memories of the place.

I did my RAF trade training at Cosford, on slack days we were sent to the museum to polish all the shinier aircraft, nobody ever wanted to go near the Lincoln as it was rumoured to be haunted!

I might get there on my next trip home as my son did his training at Cosford and it looks like he is going to be a lifer with 23 years in already.

I worked on the ill-fated Nimrod MR4A at Cobhams, Bournemouth Airport in 1999/2000. It was destined to fail from the very beginning. BAE Systems ran the project very badly, the 3 fuselages supplied by the RAF were so badly corroded it was almost like a complete rebuild plus when you try to mate computer designed wing to a hand built fuselage it is going to require a lot of work.
Pity as it’s performance and flying capabilities out perform the current Boeing P8 Poseidon.
