Title: Scratch built or converted 18mm Scifi vehicles
Post by: zrunelord on August 05, 2022, 06:10:20 PM
Hello again,
These are failed 3d prints . All are PLA. Used card, other 3d printed parts etc to make something out of them , instead of throwing them away.

A few very interesting vehicles, I like to see how they turn out when your finish.

Always keep the failed prints! I make wrecks or salvage as you did. It really isn't that hard.

Any idea why the prints failed?

Me too!

I was wondering why more people don't offer failed prints. I have picked up
some scenery like that. Some creeping vines (buildings) tarpaulins (machinery)
etc. & they do good service on the table.

Thank you all,

WM, soon (ish )  ;)

Golgotha, the orange ones are from Antenocities but kitbashed. Quite nice models.

Cook, yes indeed. The 2 orange failed due to bad supports ( I had just started 3d printing ),  The bus ( the one with mostly card top ) due to a clogged nozzle  & the last one due to a roof cave in ( due to 2 layer only top part ). Mistakes which could have been avoided. Still I enjoy scratchbuilding by hand so it's still a win. The one thing I wish I could suss out in resin printing is how to angle a model to avoid layers showing. It doesn't show that much in 18mm but I wish I could solve it.

Has been, Yes indeed & as they say one man's rubbish is another's treasure..... & we would reduce waste also which is always an open sore.  :(

Hey Z

Fantastic detail, as always.  I am so jealous.

A little favor … Can you help me find a link?

I recall a different thread, you had built or converted a large vehicle and you had painted it red.  Then I made the suggestion to add orange highlights or something along those lines.  Then I supplied a link to a miniature painter that had done a tutorial on individual colors.  It might have been on the color orange.

Do you recall that tutorial link?

Thanks so much.

Dan

EDIT-

Found it:

That’s exactly the one.  Thanks!

I was hoping the tutorial could help B6 with his question here:
