Latest unit for my slowly forming 1672 armies, Regiment de Pfyffer, a Swiss unit in French service, mostly picked because I love the yellow uniforms. Minis mostly painted by Richard O'Connor, some by me, flags n'flock by my chum Ian Notter.

Below is the eponymous colonel, who gets his own command stand. More about them on t'blog  Regiment de Pfyffer (https://bigredbat.blogspot.com/2022/08/regiment-de-pfyffer.html)

That’s a stunning looking unit,  Simon! I heartily recommend people to zoom in to the picture to fully appreciate the fabulous work on the faces; each an individual character. A wonderful example of every figure in the same pose, while each looks unique 👍.

Beautifully done. It's my sort of unit - no combat poses!

Thanks all, kind comments much appreciated.

There's a lot to be said for static poses vs. combat; the musketeers look better like this than in the firing poses, where they are viewed, more or less, from the side.

Gorgeous looking unit and better de Pfyffer than de Pfeffel. Another pang of guilt as I think of my own 1672 figures languishing in the lead pile.

Pfyffer-pfeffel - I'd not made that connection- interesting- coincidence or distantly related?  Southern Germany isn't so far from Lucerne.  I just came across another interesting link- there was a Pfyffer in charge of the Pontifical Guard as recently as 1982, the eleventh commander of that name. So they are still keeping that mercenary profession going...

I find the 1672s compelling to collect, it's that lovely Copplestone style. I'm working on another regiment at the moment. I'd love to see some more minis released in that range...

Makes you wonder if Michelle Pfeiffer isn’t a relative.

“Pfeifer” and its many (many!) variations is a pretty common surname in German-speaking countries. It’s derived from the musical occupation as a piper in premodern cities or at court. There must’ve been loads. Highly unlikely they’re all related. ;)

Anyways, great to see these 1672’s painted up so nicely. Like so many others obviously I do own a few as well but never got round to paint them. A shame as they look smashing. Thanks for the reminder!

...now if I'd have thought of that, I could have given them a fifer- would have been a nice touch.
