Bit of a kit bash
Old geezer knight (probably means about thirty five then 🙄😆) after a life times service….
Cheers all
-
Very nice!
-
Looks good
-
Looking good! Lots of character. 👍
-
Thanks guys
First unit of The Fallen to oppose our faithful old knight
Might have a tinker with the shields yet…
Cheers all
-
Oh, nice stuff. I don't recognise the heads on the Fallen? The albino scheme fits them very well. Really nice little project here. What's the setting? Your own?
-
Thanks Cap👍🏼
The heads are from Pig Iron Productions ‘Infected’ range and a little more light grey than the camera flash would imply 🙄😆
And yes it is my own setting…
…a Disgraced knight cast out from civilisation, attempting to cleanse the land of the evil that will eventually consume him type affair…
-
Those Pig Iron heads look really good on those bodies. I wouldn’t have thought of that way to use them, nice job!
-
Thanks Magnus much appreciated 👍🏼
-
Clever kit bash with those heads. Looking good! 👍
-
Cheers grumpy
First of the Archers….
-
Thanks Cap👍🏼

Gotcha. I love homebrewn settings. Really enjoying the style and 'feel' of this one so far - let us know what else you plan, what ruleset etc!
These guys give me a little bit of a Darkspawn vibe (from Dragon Age: Origins) due to the whole troglodyte thing. That's awesome. Keen to see what's next!
-
Cheers Cap
The plan…is a small scale skirmish game. Single character and three or four (maybe) units of retainers/followers.
A small warband collected around a charismatic hero.
Probably come in at about 20 figures ish a side for short bloody battles for the future of mankind…
Got the bones of some rules down so far and a couple of playtesting war bands on the go 👍🏼
So things are looking good for a nice little winter project
-
Playtesting crew
-
And the leader of the opposition
-
A stab at some heavy cavalry
Cheers all
-
Cool model! I don’t think he will have any trouble finding a space at the hitching post.
When I first glanced at the top picture, my first thought was, “cool, Boba Fett has a new ride”, I think something about that helmet in profile (and maybe the star-scape background).
Anyways, a neat, heroic figure!
-
Looking good! 👍
-
Thanks Magnus and Gnome
👍🏼
‘…Did you think you were forgotten? That you had escaped me hiding
behind your white shield? We danced before when you were young and I ages old. Many times we touched all these long years…and you have danced well and long…long enough to be cursed and cast out by those you once loved and saved.’
‘I have them all as I will have all…your friends, your sons and your daughters have come to me. Your people and your lands, your history and title, even your name, that too is a dead thing now.’
‘But I know it…and I call it…as you wake in the night, as the White Death takes you piece by craven piece and as you tremble before the coming battle. For you are counted now in days…and I shall have you as I will have all…Greybeard.’
-
After a short delay due to another ‘shiny Agrax earth shade’ incident (again)
The white shields now some backup
Militia spear men
Cheers all
-
Nice miniatures! I like those creepy bad guys a lot!
-
An excellent, grimy militia effect there! Are the figures just Fireforge Almughavars, or are there some other parts, too? In any case, they look quite good.
-
Yep arms from the almughavars on oathmark humans with fireforge heads
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
-
Ah, they’re kitbashes, very cool! The parts blended well enough that I was unsure.
-
Cheers Magnus and ‘grimy’ was exactly the look I was going for 😊👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
-
Good stuff Chimpyfoog.
I like the good guys but those ghoul like baddies are the mut nuts. Well done there.
-
Fantastic work. I hope you don't mind, but shared a pic of the militia spearmen on the SAGA Discord to show how good the Oathmark kit looks and how well it can be converted. Keep it up mate.
-
Thanks hubbabubba 👍🏼
Nice one Cap 😊 that’s fine by me 👍🏼 Painting as fast as I can 😳😆😆😆
-
The fallen are not the only perils that await….
The Barbarian horde!! Well six of them…
‘That’s disgusting and where’s the rest of you?’
Cheer all
-
The barbarians have some cavalry…
What is best in life?
For a light horseman…unarmoured, unsupported panicky looking archers 😆👍🏼
-
Good afternoon
Some more ‘grubby looking’ spearmen to join the white shield militia
-
And after a couple of prototypes have now settled on the look of my disgraced knight
Suitably P’d off looking…at his age something always hurts…everyday 😳😆
Cheers all
-
Quick group shot
Up next archers, some light cavalry and a mounted version of our hero.
Then the Fallen wolf riders!
-
Lovely use of the oathmark orc bodies. I had thought about but not got around to doing something like that.
-
Ooh! I like those a lot! As Ogrob says, you made the orc bodies look really good as the base for grubby and downtrodden human militia. I think I might pinch that idea to make up a set of bandits for skirmish games, so thanks for the inspiration!
-
Thanks Ogrob and Magnus you are quite welcome 👍🏼👍🏼
-
Great project, really loving the kit bashing.
-
I love the Knight.
Where are the arms from?
-
Cheers kill shot…rarely leave anything ‘as is’ 😬🤷♂️
Stygian…thanks 😊 they were taken from the oathmark dwarf infantry sprue 👍🏼
-
Great project, really loving the kit bashing.
I quite agree! 👍
-
Great stuff. You've done a nice job with those Oathmark human kitbashes and as Ogrob said the use of Orc bodies is really smart. I also really like those 'fallen' heads and how you've painted them.
-
Thanks grump
And plezziez….wait till you see what I’ve done with the dwarfs 😬😬😬
🤣🤣🤣👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
-
Really great work. So much atmosphere oozing from the Knight.
-
Thanks cap 👍🏼👍🏼
Couple more shots of the new arrivals
Trying to get a good one of the exiled knight, don’t know whether the skin colour comes through in the pics. Quite a pale base with a few washes of druchi purple or whatever it’s called (why is everything by gw suddenly unpronounceable?!)
Infected by the White Death he is slowly becoming that which he has dedicated his life to destroy….
Cheers all
-
And in case anyone was wondering leaders get ‘big boy’ bases just to let everyone know who’s boss👍🏼
-
I lie the vibe you've got going on with these figs, very cool.
-
Thanks hubba 👍🏼
Not less militia….more!
Repurposed/repainted a unit to fill out the White shield militia just need a unit of archers (on the paint station as we speak)
And that along with our as yet unnamed exiled hero (afoot and a horse) should technically be a fighting force.
The idea is not huge mass battles gloriously re-enacted on sumptuous 8x4 tables (only a lottery win away 🤔😆) but rather the small parts there of…the tiny vignettes where one man spots a fault in the line, a gap in the wall, a weakness in the enemy formation and cries ‘You there…every second man with me!!! You want to live forever you apes?’
And taking a handful of men storms a breach, moments in the much larger scenario of a battle, siege , raid or ambush etc that may go completely unrecorded.
And would love to work in some asymmetry…heroic deeds are not done when two groups of thirty men stand on either side of a golf course and just charge into each other…
No it is the few against many that are remembered….
‘we’ll all hide here and jump them when they bunch up to get over the bridge…’ or…
‘look there’s loads of us let’s just sneak down there and kill them before they wake up? Then we can tell the bards whatever we want?’
Heros to man 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤣
Cheers all
-
And finally….
Test model of the Fallen wolf riders
I know, been done before by more talented chaps than me but here’s my two penneth.
Not much of a gw guy but them fenrisian wolves are the dogs bo****s for me (pun definitely intended😆) Just the right size and lean and hungry looking….should get the Fallen raiding force on the move
Cheers all
Obligatory Dances with wolves cinematic shot ensues…….
-
Well, those all look just great! The kit bashing and painting is great, and I love your vision for each force.
-
Great project! I really like your muted palette and the kitbashing! 8)
-
I’ve often wondered how the goblin riders would work with those wolves and they look great. Thanks for sharing.
-
Looks Great and I like your thinking on this project! 👍
-
Argonor killshot and grumpy gnome Thankyou for your kind comments 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
In other news has anyone else noticed that if you chop a few vertebrae out off an oathmark skeletons neck that they make acceptable dwarf skeletons?
-
I hadn’t noticed, but I will keep it in mind when I expand my undead horde… thanks for the tip!
-
Good looking armies there.
-
All coming together nicely. Have you had a chance to get stuck in with the playtesting yet? Looks like you should have enough little dudes by now.
-
Cheers hammers
And old hob….nearly😳🤣
Three archers one wolf rider piddle about with the Fallen units and a brontox and that should give me enough options to see if the rules will work/hold up🤞
Then of course there’s the barbarians the Vennsguard and two factions of dwarves so we can have a height restricted civil war 👍🏼
Oh and the Vomorak and the trolls so…
Beauty of having several factions is you can hop around from one to the other when you get bored
Have to say this last month has been one of the most productive painting wise I’ve ever had 🤷♂️
That aside the plan is to empty this….and in the process build the skirmishing forces
Wish me luck
Cheers all
-
Small almost mid week update and side track…
Found a box of these fellas while rummaging and decided to slap in together
Probably use them in singles or units of three if anything…with the embryonic points system a unit of six would most likely be an entire force 😳
‘…so the barbarian scum have an ogre do they? Well I’ve fought bigger…oh…errr….’
Cheers all
-
Good morning
Just a couple of wips of the new warband
Cheers all
-
Those big bois look suitably nasty, but do work really well together! 8)
-
First two units up and running
Standard spear and shield and some heavy hitters
Cheers all
-
Very nice!
-
Thanks Dean
Just added the first three light cavalry to add to the militia
Cheers all
-
Those look excellent!
I don’t recognize the orcs, which manufacturer are the from? They look very cool!
-
Thanks Pattus
They are from Westwind Productions , their dwarf wars range and they are pretty big 😳
-
Oh yeah! They look great painted (I don’t know if I have ever seen them other than on Westwind’s site). Interesting about the size, it seems like a lot of orc figures went that way. I used converted GW orcs for ogres in my fantasy collection…
I really like the colour palette you used, too.
-
Those light cavalry are very nicely painted. I especially like the 5 o'clock shadow on the mounted archer. Great job on these.
-

I noticed that too. 5 o'clock shadow is very easy to overdo, and usually is, so well done on getting it just right here!
-
Lovely detail on the horses, right down to lighter hooves under the 'socks'. Stunning work"!
-
Thanks for the kind words ☺️
God no little details get past you guys do they ?!🤣🤣🤣
Researched the colour of horses because they just didn’t look right
No more about it now than I ever did 😳 it’s probably my favourite part of the painting process getting the horses to look right 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
-
Little bit of heavy ish cavalry has arrived for the White Shields…..ahhhh the thunder of hooves….
Does anyone play all cavalry engagements?
-
Those look very sharp! I like how the sallet helmets work on the figures (Fireforge northern cavalry?)
-
Yup right again
With oathmark arms and weapons 👍🏼
Always think the sallet helmets have a somewhat sinister look about them
Just what I was looking for for these downtrodden abandoned knights 😊
-
Love those cavalry guys. I, too, like the sallet for its sinister vibe. May I ask, where did you get these particular sallets?
-
Thanks li-fo
Mmm
I think they are from macrocosm miniatures from their half ling city guard range? Or perhaps Bob Ollie?
Being trying to source some more for a while now but think they might be discontinued which is a shame because they are so nice 🤷♂️
Would love someone on here to point me in the right direction 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
