Title: Is The Pygmy Wars Site Down?
Post by: Pan Marek on September 29, 2022, 09:56:46 PM
The title says it all.
I've tried to access the site on two different computers where I never had trouble before.
Anyone know what's up?

It is still going, but you may have issues with the security certificate. Often clearing your cache helps. People seem to be affected differently, depending on their systems.

I really should get round to fixing it, but it's a the limit of my technical knowledge, and the "help" desk at the other end screwed me over last time.

If you get a security warning, then over-ride it.

Mark-
The reply I get when I use your site address is "Your connection isn't private".   This occurs when I use my home computer and when I use my work computer.  Never happened before when trying to access PygmyWars.

l'm not techie myself.  What do you mean by "clear your cache"?
I'd hate to be locked out of the site forever.

Thanks,
Mark

Get rid of old cookies etc. They often store the security details, which in this case are now out of date.

I just ignore the security warning and click to continue. Pygmy Wars isn't a sophisticated site -- the bits about privacy are meaningless if you aren't entering any information.

Mark-
I tried ignoring the "security" warnings, and got through.  And you're right, what's to steal if I don't enter any information?
Thanks for the help.

I’ve gotten the same message and it’s caused by the security certificate being out-of-date or otherwise incorrect. I imagine it would cut into your traffic considerably.

I know that Cloudflare offers free SSL certificates that you can download. Just go to their site. Cloudflare is a legitimate company offering content delivery solutions, including cybersecurity. The certification is just a free service they offer. But there are other sources of certificates if you don’t feel comfortable going to them. Perhaps discuss it with your web hosting service and they might point you in the right direction.

Yes, best to get that fixed up before too many people flag your site as some sort of security risk. Most modern browsers will flag the site, but some will even force blocks making it difficult for the inexperienced to bypass the warning.

Cloudflare is legitimate.
