Thought I had posted these but obviously not, got a small unit of 5 done, more on the way! There’s a few RTB01 parts on them too
-
Beautiful!

Aces 8)

You had posted them, I've definately commented on them before, but it's great to see them again.

Thanks! I thought I had! But obviously didn’t put silver skulls as a title 🫠
-
Awesome; they look great! 8)
I recognize most (all?) of the RTB01 bits on there and they still work as well as they did in the late eighties.
Also, I really like you chose a chapter that's often overlooked; I can't recall I've ever seen more than just the one marine here and there, the most prominent one being that one in the 2nd ed codex.
Will you be doing more, or was this a one off?
-
Thanks, yeah I’m going to do at least another 15-20 plus a chaplain and librarian, a few vehicles in codex grey I think with a dread , I need to find some plastic severed heads as apparently in the chapters lore they are head takers ?
-
Cool. That looks to be the basis of a solid army!
From what I recall, the Silver Skulls do indeed take skulls and dip them in silver as trophies. They recruit on feral worlds (hence the headhunting I presume) and they rely heavily on their Librarians.
Also, they are known for their high rate of succes, but then they also cherry-pick their battles, going in only when they know they can win :D
It'll be fun to see where you take these lads :)

I'm liking these a lot! Lovely figures, well painted.
-
Thanks guys! I’ve got another 11 figures ready to start painting, I’ve had to go down the 3D printed route for shoulder pads but was pretty impressed to be honest
-
Wonderful painting and photography.

Interesting. Did you create thm yourself, or did you find them? And if the latter; did you specifically go looking for them, or is there a pack of different pads out there perhaps?
-
I bought them on eBay, one was in the form of a curved skull to place on smooth paldrons, the others were complete with the pauldron, I was impressed with the quality, the guy does loads of chapters, the guys above have GW plastic shoulder pads, I think they came with the deathwatch ?
-
I love the patina on those metals! How did you paint them?
-
Cheers,
Base coat black
Dry brush steel
Wash with black
Dry brush steel
Various brown citadel washes in areas where they get dirty
Edge highlights with silver
Small sponge dabbing on silver across the armour
More washes if needed to tone down the silver dabbing
Black in recesses
Hope that helps
-
Thanks major, they really do look excellent!
-
Started work on a rhino, really just to try out the AK weathering stuff, quite happy with it other than the dust effect, which I think I can make look a bit better with dry brushing, I’ve got a Spartan tank to do plus hopefully the new land raider , I don’t really paint many vehicles so this is all a new experience!! Last time I painted model tanks was some years ago in my teens

Looks awesome. Perfect alongside your gritty marines!
-
Looks good so far mate 8)
-
These look great, mate.
Beautiful metal work.
:-* :-*
I must confess that I had considered the Skulls myself at one point but decided to save the 'metal' Marines for later, just in case I ever decided to do more Iron Warriors, recreating my Chaos force of twenty or so years ago.
It probably will not happen, though!
;)

Cheers paul! Hey you should do iron warriors 😉
