Got the green light from Mr Hicks to share this. Just so full of hype!
From Facebook.
"At last I get to sculpt British Airborne again. They’re going to be released as a joint Kickstarter with Empress Miniatures These Airborne figures will look as if they’ve been waiting for XXX corps for sometime. Release date news and other sculpts to follow. #28mmww2 #chainofcommand #boltaction"
As time goes by we will announce a lot more information and as the we put the Kickstarter together we will of course inform you all. However in the meantime here are a few previews of the first four figures to announce the project. 😉
Cheers Paul."
Kickstarter hopefully out in the new year!
-
:-* :-* :-*
I still have some of Paul’s earlier paras but these look even better.
-
Masterful sculpting Paul! I gotta get me these when they become available!
-
outstanding sculpts!! Like always, well done Paul!
-
So this is the reason he stopped sculpting Boshin war troops?
-
"I say Harry, reinforcements at the Bridge!"
:)
-
Beautiful figures - almost enough to draw me from 20mm...
-
Nice sculpts.
I look forward to seeing the Kickstarter.
-
Looks like my Warlord and Battle Honors chaps will be getting some reinforcements.... :D
-
Beautiful, I am new baby poor at the moment. But I'm will still fallow the Kickstarter.
-
So this is the reason he stopped sculpting Boshin war troops?
I believe those are commission work for Bac Ninh Miniatures. To be found here http://bacninhminiatures.blogspot.com/?m=1
So they are still being made as far as I know.
-
Beautiful, I am new baby poor at the moment. But I'm will still fallow the Kickstarter.
The bad news is that it only gets worse. Wait until they get to high school.... :'(
-
The bad news is that it only gets worse. Wait until they get to high school.... :'(
Trying not to think about that at the moment lol
-
Oh and the refund policy on children is really shit. Seems you have to really read the fine print.
-
I think I already surpassed the one year warranty by 3 months now. So I guess new baby is no longer the proper title.
-
Thank you gents for the very kind comments. This range is a labour of love and allowing me to scratch a sculpting itch I’ve wanted to scratch for years.
-
Fantastic minis! :-* 8) :-*
-
Please do some spare heads in plain, un-netted/cammed helmets. I’d love to use these for Suez. I wonder how they will size up with your old BA ones?
-

Oh I 2nd that request. Can use some of that for Korea, Cypress, Greece, Arab-Israeli conflict... And early cold war gone hit in the 50s. :D
-
And a kilted Piper playing the Kosbies off the L/Z!
;)
-
There's definitely a few characters/poses I'd like too see.
Lieutenant Jack Reynolds showing true British grit to the German cameraman.
-
Major Cain with a PIAT, Johnny Frost blowing his horn and Tatham-Warther in bowler and carrying a brolly!
-
So from what I've seen on Facebook.
Jeeps and jeep crews are planned. Also crew for the 6 pounder.
Also not that it will be in this upcoming kickstarter but germans are on the list too. This got me very excited.
-
Will these match Paul’s old sculpts sizewise? I do hope so.
-
Empress Paul did say that they should slot in really well with what Mr Hicks has done in the past for with original BAM airborne. Which are still the best out there imo. Currently 8)
-
Will these match Paul’s old sculpts sizewise? I do hope so.
You'll be happy.
Empress Paul sent me a few samples to colour in...

Blown away :-* beautiful work you lucky chap

:-* :-* :-* :-*

Look well do those, not too sure about the waterbottles, though?
???
-
Very nice!
Look well do those, not too sure about the waterbottles, though?
They do seem to be missing a cross strap?
-
Very nice!
They do seem to be missing a cross strap?
Not necessarily. The '37 pattern had a canvas cover and straps at the top as opposed to the more familiar WW1 era felt covered type with the skeleton webbing carrier and the distinctive cross straps. How common these were vis a vis the older pattern I don't know but they are not necessarily wrong. Paul is pretty good at doing his research, so I trust these are all based on period photos.
-
By the by it was the same bottle inside just the carrier differed.
-
Interesting, I wasn’t aware of this version, most minis seem to use the earlier version with the cross straps. This made me have a look through Then and Now for Market Garden. The first thing is that most photos are of the front of people, and rear shots tend to be rather distant. But I found two
First with the 37 pattern, which looks very much the same colour through out
(https://i.imgur.com/LaKtK1X.jpg)
Second showing the older version which is the darker felt shade
(https://i.imgur.com/afxXuZG.jpg)
-
All will be revealed when I return to the Emporium from seafront perambulate!
🤔
-
Both types in action.
-
Some piccys, courtesy of Bob and Dave showing the full webbing water bottle carrier. Mr. Hicks has kindly made us these remarkable little sowjers, it's only right we dab our paints on 'em as best we can!
With this in mind, and being super anal, the carrier wants to be the same colour as the webbing with just the canteen top picked out in brown felt. Being a proper sad wanker where the Airborne's concerned, mine will have the smocks with knitted cuffs, picked out in green. They'll also have the cotton .303 bandoleers a different shade to the webbing.
:'(
-
Easy fix.
The bandoliers are already a completely different color to the webbing ;)
-
You iz di' man Dags!
-
A distinctly useful site for British webbing enthusiasts/ fetishists.
http://www.karkeeweb.com/index.html#home
As Fred Astaire almost sang:
'I'm in webbing, I'm in webbing and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.
And I seem to find the happiness I seek, when we are out there patrolling cheek to cheek.'

Dear Lord that’s awful lol lol lol lol
-
Don't blame me that one is down to an old mate of mine. It's better than 'Some enchanted evening, you may kill a stranger...' or 'M60s in the night, together we were firing on fixed lines...'
-
They really are some very tasty looking sculpts. Is there a release ETA on these yet?
I think those samples look great. Nice to see how they look with some paint, particularly like the camo.
Re the bottles, cuffs etc; pretty much what Harry said, he knows his stuff.

If you can find a book called 'For King and Country: British Airborne Uniforms, Insignia & Equipment in WW2' it's an absolute gem for the painter of Paras and Airborne dudes. It is such a comprehensive guide, covering just about everything that was carried from the start of the war till the end, how it was carried on the webbing, all variations and marks, all colour detailed photos so you get a really look at what you're meant to be colouring in and you get a choice as to how you want to paint it, depending on when and where your guys are fighting.
Having said that, I must have snaffled up a rare cheap copy (well, £20 which I thought was expensive at the time) because it can go for silly money these days, but I do thoroughly recommend it. It helped me no end in painting my paras and glider pilots.
-
That book's worth a fortune these days. My lad's in a couple of the piccys, poncing about playing sowjers!
::)
-

::)
I saw it once for £50.00 and fought with myself and ended up not buying it... a decision I later regrettably massively. However I did get the "Then and Now" books and they are fantastic.
-
And for some good piccies this is always worth a look at:

Every now and again, my dear old Granny, turns into Uncle Albert!
"During the war, I could turn out three of them new pattern waterbottle carriers, for every one of the old style ones!"
:)
Always good to listen to our 'greatest generation'. They've seen and done things we can't imagine.
-
PIAT and Bren teams! :-*
-
Is the prone Bren gunner wearing a knitted shawl?
Very nice one and all.
-
What about the Poles? :o
-
Poles have been confirmed! Though I'm unsure if it's this KS or a future one :D
-
Poles apart eh? They should run a poll.
-
Poles have been confirmed! Though I'm unsure if it's this KS or a future one :D
Yes! Nice!
-
Is the KS going to be purely British Airborne? Or will some Germans or other allies be involved.
-
Purely British Airborne. Thanks gents for the lovely comments!
-
Been stupidly busy last couple of weeks and completely forgot to put up the corrected water bottle pix (along with some of their mates)

Awesome Dags! Absolutely brilliant brushwork! :-*
-
Some extra weapon crew figures would be nice, seeing as how CoC needs extra figures for each heavy weapon you field (more than you get as standard with heavy weapon blisters).
You know, extra loaders, ammunition carriers. That sort of thing.
-
Well worth the effort to do the adjustment, that's a really good looking group.
-
Absolutely FANTASTIC! I love the figures and your brushwork brings them to life! Brilliant!
-
Bloody nice.. and hideous timing... just as I finished up painting a bunch of Airborne, some the older Hicks sculpts, some Artizan and some Offensive and some Renegade (I am replacing the Renegade PIAT teams, as they are massively bigger..)
As for the book "For King and Country: British Airborne Uniforms, Insignia & Equipment in WW2" - why would I buy a book showing me all the things I got wrong..?

-
WOW! Fantastic collection! I'm absolutely green with envy! Very impressive!
-
News just in update! More magnificent sculpts from Mr Hicks! :-*
-
Very nice
-
LOVE the cart!!! All of the armies in NW Europe used them, and so few are available in 28mm.
-
More good-looking sculpts. Can't wait to see what the Kickstarter holds in store...
-
LOVE the cart!!!
It is very evocative.
Nice painting by the way Dags.
-
Already see myself getting a few cart crews some of which will be made as stretcher-bearers. Seeing a lot of versatility in them. :-*
-
Lovely figures.
I will pretty much buy any figures that Mr. Hicks does.
Love his figures, have a bunch of old WWII British he did long ago.
-
Must not look must stick to 20mm....
Seriously, though, this range is fantastic
-
As others have commented, this is shaping up as a beautiful range. Pleased to report that I provided Paul with some visual references for that handcart :D

Update from Empress and Paul.

From Facebook:
ARNHEM HEROES KICKSTARTER.
A preview of another of our Arnhem Heroes is Major Digby Tatham-Warter, the famous umbrella wielding officer of 2nd Battalion the Parachute regiment. Really made famous to the wider world by Cornelius Ryans book ‘A Bridge Too Far’, and portrayed in the film of the same name.
Carrying the umbrella for identification purposes he put it to god use and one story states that he incapacitated the driver of an armoured vehicle by pushing the pointed through the drivers vision slit. A one point he even acquired a bowler hat to go with it. But Major Tatham – Warter was not just an eccentric Englishman but an excellent leader and as Brigadier Gerald Lathbury said ‘Every battalion needs a Digby!' And as Digby explained to Lieutenant Pat Barnett when he questioned the usefulness of the umbrella in the given situation, Digby replied, ‘Oh my goodness Pat, what if it rains?'
In portraying this officer we did not want to go through the usual cliched pose of him waving the umbrella in the air but instead wanted to portray him in a more human and eccentric way. We also wanted to show the a regimental Chaplain who get forgotten. One of the most extraordinary stories involves both.
Battalion Padre, Father Egan was hugging the earth behind a tree next to a road with the intention of running across it. However a German mortar team were targeting the road to prevent the paratroops from moving freely. Digby suddenly appeared looking down upon Father Egan and asked if he needed help. Father Egan looked up and explained his problem. Digby explained ‘Don't worry, I've got an umbrella.' and pulling the Padre up by his arm led him across the road to the other side. After the war the German officer commanding the mortar explained he stopped firing when he saw the British officer with the umbrella because he was either mad or brave and so did not want to kill him.
Based upon this story here is Paul Hicks sculpt of Major Digby and Father Egan.
Cheers,
The other Paul 😉
-
Looks cracking and interesting back story. Seriously worried about this Kickstarter having absolutely no need for the figures with a full platoon plus already of BAM and Artizan models , many beautifully painted by Dags. Not a chance going to be able to resist buying some of these fantastic new figures.
-
I'm definitely adding those two figures to my Arnhem collection
Two of Harry's stalwarts!
:-*
-
SEEN ON FACEBOOK
The last batch of sculpts for the upcoming Brit Airborne Kickstarter. Captain Ogilvie of the Glider Reg and Jeep crew. The two helmeted passengers can be sat in either position.
-
Ooh, crew for a jeep. Excellent.
-
Love the bloke in the kilt, sadly, it dragged him under and killed him, trying to swim the Rhine to safety.
For donkey's years I've mithered sculptors to make a KOSBie piper, piping the lads from the D/Zs, so far without any takers. I cobbled one up, years ago, from the Commando set of Lord Lovat and Piper Millin. I'm kind of suspicionioned that, Mr. Hicks might just make a better job of 'im!
:D
-

You could probably have a go at the Piper in late war British pack LB9, file down the hood on his smock...
-
Cheers Ash. My 'Brigadier Jamie Holdbridge-Stuart', is an SAS figure wearing a hooded smock thingy. I tickled up the the hood to make it resemble a como face vial, worn over his Denison.
:)
-
Gosh these are fantastic, I think I may indulge.....
Cheers
Matt
-
Seen that in a future KS there will be different Jeep options! :-*
-
Hi All,
We are currently going through the process of making all of the moulds relevant to the Arnhem Heroes Kickstarter.
This has taken longer that expected due to some lost time over Christmas and January. However the end is in sight and we are just setting up the details on the Kickstarter so stay tuned.
However the important part of this announcement is that the Kickstarter is currently planned to go live on March 10th 2023 so pleaser make a note in your diary's.
We will of course be putting out a huge amount of announcements between now and then so stay tuned. Please help us make this a success by putting the word around your mates, gaming clubs, infact anyone.
Cheers,
The Pauls
-
Excellent news cant wait!

This has taken longer than expected due to...

Diaried! ;D

I don't maintain a diary. So, I've logged it into my internal memory. We'll see how that works out...
-
:)
Arnhem you say? Rings a bell. Didn't they make a fillum about that with Ryan O'Neill and wotsisface from Van Der Valk ?
Barry Foster? Seems to have had a bit of a Dutch obsession old Baz. ;)

No mate, it was that uvver Scotchman, Seen Canary.
;D
-
Paul (and I ask this only partly in jest ;) ), any chance we'll see the lunatics laughing at Mr. Canary and Co. from the woods? They'd make great scenario figures.

Not sure I'm prepared to licence my image to this project. Well, maybe..... depends on the offer. :D
-
Kind of get where you're coming from about the loonies. Anybody wanting 'em, might do well looking at zombie figures to convert?
Wot would look OK though as scenario figures, Kate ter Horst and Dr. Spaander tending the Airborne's wounded.
:)
-
Don’t forget Anthony Hopkin’s batman carrying his golf clubs!

It's a curious way of commemorating the death of Burt Bacharach but I think the sentiment is no less sincere, indeed it's arguably more so by dint of its unique presentation.
Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turning red
Crying's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complaining
Because I'm free
Nothing's worrying me
Nice colourings btw.

Amazing paint job on those!

All hoping I believe 10th March is still the green light from last I saw.

ARNHEM HEROES KICKSTARTER UPDATE.
Sadly we have some bad news...... but also some GOOD NEWS!!!!
The bad news is that we have moved the start date back slightly to the new start date of 24th March 2023 and ending on 7th April 2023. This should give enough time for pledgers to jump on board. Note its over the pay day period so hopefully that also helps you good people.
The good news is that we have added another couple of special character figures so pledgers will be able to achieve these as the Kickstarter progresses.
We are just going through the final steps of setting the KS up and adding pictures and pledge levels so stay tuned as we are getting close.
Paul & Paul😉
-
So how does this work?
I've not bought via a Kickstarter before, and I'd probably want the whole lot. Is it like making a pre order, paying up front then waiting for a release date?
Will the range be available via the Empress Miniatures website at some stage, if the need for additional packs should arise?
-
Ash: Normally Kickstarts indluce a "One of everything option", often with a better price then later retail price. After the campaign is successfully funded, you have access to a "Pledge manager" which allows you to add additional packs. You pay upfront but get your miniatures before they hit general sale.
The idea behind it is to fund a complete (more or less) range quickly. I really like the system when it's well done and organized (the Footsore ones for example are fantastic)!
-
This is the beginning of the launch so click onto here and you will start to get information.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arnhemheroes/arnhem-heroes
The figures in this KS will not become available via retail for a very long time so we really advise that people back this and the KS that follow as they will be complimentary to the entire operation. ;)
-
Thanks for the info guys. Signed up to KS and clicked the notification button.
... and the KS that follow as they will be complimentary to the entire operation. ;)
Ooh, intrigued. Are SS in summer kit a potential addition at some point?
-

Ooh, intrigued. Are SS in summer kit a potential addition at some point?
Yes. The plan is that there will be quite a long list of KS's to cover what's needed. The NEXT KS is already being worked on and will feature Recce chaps and vehicles. Plus other stuff. However we are concentrating on this one because if it fails then it all stops o_o
-
Great site for photos of Arhem, some lesser seen from the other side. Also has a good little animated video showing the environs of the bridge in 1944 prior to the fighting. Very handy for those watig to model the area.

Arnhem heroes kickstarter.
Communications issues during the battle in Arnhem have long been debated and played a very important part in the conflict.
At company and platoon level very short range SCR-536 sets, known in US service as Walkie Talkies, were used. However these proved inadequate to the task.
Major Tatham-Warter of “A” Company, 2nd Battalion, identified what now seems logical that radio communication for airborne troops could prove very difficult. He therefore had a number of buglers within his company who used Napoleonic period light infantry calls to communicate. During the defence of the bridge they were used to regularly sound off so that the British could recognise what buildings were still holding out against the German attacks.
We had added as a special starter figure an airborne bugler as the lowest pledge. So if you just want to buy one sample, and rather unique figure, you can. Of course he will also be available to higher bidders.

That's just a gorgeous sculpt. I am so kicking myself. In the last couple of years I have painted up platoons for Japanese and British Airborne, and now these are available, as are the Studio Historia Japanese.
-
Just seen this on YouTube from Painting Panzers and I'm unbelievably hyped.
https://youtu.be/MgHXT7L7h5s
-
They do indeed look fucking brilliant! :-* :-* :-*
-
The bloke in that video stated, one of the figures is carrying/trailing a Sterling. If any of the Arnhem soldiers did carry one, and it's a big if, it should have a straight magazine...
http://firearms.96.lt/pages/Patchett.html
;)
-
Yeah, I believe there is some evidence that there might have been one or two Patchetts carried (although records are a little sketchy) at Arnhem, but that they were still taking the straight Sten mag at that time, with the curved magazine being made post-war.
-
This may be of interest...

It's a cracker of a film and features many who fought at Arnhem.
Would love to see the out-takes from that. Apparently the producers 'found' and then blew up a derelict Dutch train. The Dutch railways were apparently not thrilled, as they had planned to put it back into service. Hefty compensation paid, scene cut from the final version.
Signed up for notifications to the KS. First KS ever.

FROM FACEBOOK
Arnhem Heroes KICKSTARTER.
Start date 24th March.
Here are a couple of new figures that we have added. A sniper team for added deadliness.
The sniper is using a No4 mark 1 (T) rifle with No 32 Mark 1 telescopic sight.
The cap comforter is taken from a picture, see below. Below that figure is a chap with a cammo net over his beret. We considered that but felt it would get lost in translation when moulding. Its a bit of weird thing to wear but young men do weird things 🙃

If memory serves the sniper is a lad from the XXI, the soldier on the right certainly is, he was killed by mortar fire not long after that picture was taken.
-
Very nice. :-*
Best produce a few more scoped rifles. In theory there was a dedicated marksman with a scope in each para section, at least according to the relevant War Establishments.

We are trying to cover off the relevant troops necessary to create a fighting force for whatever set of rules that you use. Obviously this is pretty difficult given the way rules look at the historic detail but one item that we did need to cover was the cut down version 2" mortar that proved very effective in the defence. One even took out a King Tiger, allegedly.
-
Again very nice. :-*
My only concern is that the project ends up with too many, unusual, rare or one off figures. Whilst these are always going to be interesting sculpts and ideal for vignettes or dioramas if you get one of the 'I'm wearing a bowler hat, no webbing and carrying a shooting stick' figure (what traditionally most would view as 'character figures') per pack then it makes creating a platoon or more a pain in the arse. Nobody wants the 'unique' character type popping up again and again in every section. It just looks daft.
Some relatively bland, universal, figures in standard kit would be appreciated as a core. People will make their own variations be it with paintbrush or putty if they fancy. It also widens the potential use and marketability of the figures. Whilst Arnhem is interesting, I'd like to use these elsewhere as well so getting too specific lessens their appeal rather than enhances it.
Difficult I know as Paul has already been down this path before, I still have a handful of his older figures floating around and they remain beautiful sculpts. So as a suggestion maybe some more standard figures as I am sure that the benchmark range for paras.
I also acknowledge that we are only seeing the edited highlights and that in all probability there's much more to come including vanilla packs.

FROM FACEBOOK
ARNHEM HEROES KICKSTARTER
The main aim of this Kickstarter was to create a set of figures that paid homage to the troops that fought at Arnhem. That’s not just basing figures on the well known information and usually regarding medal winners but the stories linked to the common bloke in the middle of a fight for survival.
No figure seems to sum this approach up more than this story regarding one soldier. Dicky Boyd told the story of a veteran glider soldier of the Stafford’s who after three days of heavy fighting found himself in a graveyard under fire with no hot food. His craving for a mug of tea became so strong that he through caution to the wind and brewed up. (Typical Tommy.)
Just as it was made a wounded soldier who was suffering from shock was placed next to him and he reluctantly passed his mug to the soldier to ease his pain. Sadly the wounded soldier dropped the mug before taking a drink and so both never got to taste the life preserving tea.
Unfortunately he was later wounded and later found in the gutter by an SS medic who saved his life.
That soldier is believed to be William Charles Noel Lane. There is a Cpl. W. C. Lane (5124813) listed in 1944 casualty lists for North-West Europe, who was wounded on 19 September 1944 and thereafter missing. he was assigned POW no: 82930 and sent to camp 317 (Markt Pongau, 50km south of Salzburg).
If you have not joined the pre Kickstarter link yet please do as it will give you a reminder when the KS starts.

I for one am absolutely blown away at the commitment being put in for this Kickstarter. To see the actual boots on the ground situational stories bring brought to life in miniature. Bravo.
-
In my 'umble opinion you lads should stick with the Arnhem Heroes. Anyone wanting to 'flesh out' his collection could do that with Paul's old sculpts...
they're streets (forgive the pun :)) ahead of anyone elses anyhow!

Pretty much unavailable these days. Voldemort Games replaced them with their own shitty plastic figures. So there is that.
-
Never knew that, just gleaned a Platoon's worth from the Bazzar! The Warlord Games plastic Paras are really good, I'd use them as 'flesher outs', at a push.
:)
-
To get me going I just took receipt of the Warlord "British Paras Infantry section" British Airborne HQ and British Airborne Characters pack which are all in metal. I assumed these were the original Bolt Action sculpts to match the new in this Kickstarter. Was I wrong in this?

You're fine :) they will all compliment the Kickstarter as all you've listed are Mr Hicks sculpts
-
That's good to hear, many thanks for the reassurance. As an aside, theres nothing wrong with Plastic figures they're just not my thing. I find it all too time consuming putting them together etc etc as I don't have a lot of hobby time and I'm not renowned for my patience lol

Stunning brushwork Dags, you really bring sculpts to life. I was wondering what your recipe for the "Red" Beret is as of all the renditions I've seen yours is by far the closest to a maroon and I'd like to replicate it on my own figures if that's ok?

‘Here’s the initial release! We’re going to show you up front all the minis and deals. Even before those stretch goals are met! Then you can pledge the amount you want from the start! 6pm (GMT) 24/3.

My favourite is the bloke with the tankie style thigh holster. He's next to bottom row, second in. I'm guessing he was based on this bloke from 2nd. Bn.
If 'Their's Is The Glory' can be used as research material, Freddie Gough would make an excellent personality figure. In the film he's depicted with his smock tail hanging down wearing a pair of non regulation corduroy trousers. A Veteran of the Recce once told me he wore them in Italy, the original 'cor blimey trousers' as worn by Council binmen! Be a nice figure, togged up like that, and toting a Vickers 'K' Gun.

No problem 8)
Black base to which Army Painter Chaotic Red is added , keep adding the red in small amounts until it is just Chaotic Red for the final highlights.
Don't forget to leave the thin band at the bottom Black (adding a little leather brown to the black to make it pop)
-
I think I might have to get 2 full bundles, lovely looking figures. Such possibilities to extend further as well

Well here we are guys and gals. Its been a busy two weeks and you guys have been fantastic. We cannot thank you enough for supporting our dream and therefore ensuring that we can also start on planning the next one which we hope will be in October of this year.
Already made are various types of drop canister and supply hamper. Various types of LMG for arming recce JEEPS and dismounted figures, so Freddie Gough and his team will make an appearance. Plus we had best learn some Polish.
But enough about the future lets concentrate on today, the last day. Here we are and if you have not backed our Arnhem Heroes KS or are wondering if you need to up your pledge then here is the time. Once the hours have passed the opportunity has so like a good paratrooper don't think about it just jump.

Huge thanks,
Paul, Paul, & Christine.

They look stunning, pity yer painter bloke can't get the chinstrap the right colour, webbing straps look a tad different to the ones sculpted on the figures!
Here's an anorak comment, worthy of a anorak wearing traynspotter...
the majority of webbing chinstraps in Arnhem piccys were sported by the Polish Parachute Brigade.
::)
-
Well, chinstraps be damned, I'm in on this. :D

Those look the ticket and more like what I want for Athens 1944.

So how do the Poles differ from the British troops? I thought they were similar if not identical.
Educate me!

Educate me!
The Poles had the exact same uniforms and equipment as the british airborne apart from their beret. This was worn polish style and is a bluey grayish colour.
-
More eye candy! :-*
Paul Hicks has said there will be a 2 inch mortar team to go with this command set.
-
When this lot kicks off, will the entire rest of the range be available again?

Paul and Christine said when i last chatted to them, they would like to add the rest into the coming kickstarter. They just need to work out how they can do this. :D
-
So how do the Poles differ from the British troops? I thought they were similar if not identical.
Educate me!
Aside from the different beret styles, the British were sculpted to look like they had been there a while; striped down webbing, ammo in smock pockets, damaged smocks, chin straps undone etc. The Poles look to be fully kitted up; packs in place, chin straps still done up. Just landed look.
-
As I mentioned, will all the figures become available again? I need 'em all.

Arnhem Heroes #2
We, Paul Hicks and Paul and Christine of Empress Miniatures are currently working on our Arnhem Heroes Kickstarter ~2.
The KS will continue with the allied drop and cover off British units and Polish.
It will be specifically British/Allied and will include some more personalities such as Johnny Frost, Maj Gen Sosabowski, Freddie Gough’s recce unit, Lots of various JEEP’s, a 17pdr PLUS more paratroops.
Many of the paratroops will be in standard full kit so also work for other drops from D Day to Operation Varsity and beyond. They will also work for the 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade , commanded by Maj Gen Sosabowski. And we will be paying homage to the 1,003 Polish men in the battle.
As some of you missed the first Arnhem Heroes KS we will also be giving you a second chance to jump on board and grab those items and deals. Best start saving!!!
So when is this going to be????
We are aiming at launching the Kickstarter in late March early April. Stay tuned into this Facebook page for updates and details as we move towards the day it goes live. As with the first Kickstarter we will constantly update you and we have learnt a lot from KS1 so hopefully we can improve even further on things.
Stay tuned – God Save the King.

"See you at the Bridge!"
:)

Thanks all for the responses! This answers my real question of “will these also work as additional poses for my British Platoon”. So unless they are wearing the Polish beret, the answer should be yes!
Here’s hoping there will be some engineers included!
-
Recall reading about one of the very few Poles who crossed the Rhine. He wound up attached to either the Recce or XXI, they christened him 'Peter the Pole'. Peter carried a Bren Gun and fought a lonely fight, with men he couldn't talk to. Seem to recall he got roughed up a bit, for opening fire, during the ceasefire to get the wounded out. Sadly, I can't recall if he made it back over the river.
Might be an idea to honour him, Polish Bren Gunner in a grey beret, anyone else recall his story?
???

Absolutely brilliant sculpts! I LOVE this campaign!

Just amazing how into detail of the men that were there Empress and Paul are actually going. Still holding out hope for a surrendering set with or a stand alone figure of Jack Reynolds

OFFS. My bank account did not need this. Fine, fine, I'll be getting some Polish. Maybe jeeps for Recce. Perhaps medics.

A few photos of the upcoming RAMC figures for Arnhem Heroes 2. The Jeep will have all the metal work to hold 3 stretchers. 2 with casualties and 1 empty. The 2nd set is 2 bearers a casualty and Padre blessing the poor soul. I’ve depicted the driver trying to get some rest. If you want a more active driver? You’ll be able to add any drivers from the many Jeep sets that are in Part 2! Empress Miniatures

That's a great little vignette. The Padre is tops.
