Hi all, I thought I'd post photos of my various projects, currently a mix of 28mm, 15mm, 6mm and 1/72.
Most are made with Warhammer in mind, others are generic fantasy with historical models thrown in.
Hope you like!
-
Some nurglings based individually for 15mm, can be combined for 40mm bases in Warhammer.
-
15mm Orcs and goblins, a mix of Demonworld and Eureka Miniatures.
-
Some more Eureka, mix of 10mm and 15mm.
-
Splendidly tiny 🥰👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
My poor eyes…
-
Excellent, all of them. More of this tiny goodness.
-
beautiful paintings! WOW :o
I'm really looking forward for the 1/72 (aka 20mm) stuff, because this is my scale to go. Also scale comparisons would be nice. I'm sure there are 15mm monsters that look really good next to a 1/72 mini o_o
-
Very cool, I love to see what others do with smaller scales; I actually have both 15mm Copplestone Barbarians and a bunch of 15mm and 10mm Xenomorphs from Khurasan and Pendraken that I should get moving in the queue.
-
Thanks for some kind words! I'll keep posting everything that's fairly recent until I'm up to date, then go a little more in depth as I work on current projects.
-
GW, Eureka, Demonworld models!
-
Some good old 28mm, going through photos from a year or so ago.
-
What’s a “nurgling”?
Dan
-
There are some great 28mm figures, though especially like the classic beast men and orcs.
-
A really nice collection of figures, well tied together by your brushwork and colour pallette. I particularly like the plastic goblin from the old Fantasy Regiments box, you've made a great job of that.
-
Thanks for the kind words!
Another oldie:
-
Two more fairly recent.
-
Very nice work, I like your choice of colours!
-
Very nice work, I like your choice of colours!
Thanks! I loved working on these.
Some more Oathmark:
-
Again, really nice work there! Your choice of subdued colours really works for those figures.
-
Very nice like the color scheme and tartans.
-
Love your 15mm fantasy on the previous page, and very nice plaid on your Oathmark humans. True dedication to doing fantasy in two scales at the same time ;)
-
Tidy. I really like these.
-
Wow thanks for the kind words everyone!
True dedication to doing fantasy in two scales at the same time ;)
Two?? 😀 28mm, 15mm, 1/72, 6mm, 10mm and 2mm currently ❤
-
I did say all scales? Just about.
-
Eureka and Bob Olley ogre, Chronopia dudes:
-
Asgard (Vikingforge) troll, Bob Olley Ral Partha ogre and GW savage orcs, some of my faves!
-
Asgard models (from Vikingforge).
-
I think that snakey dude now has been released through Alternative Armies.
-
A lot of nice pics here, thanks for sharing!
-
Some kind words again haha! Thanks. Here are some really cheap options for battlefields. The red chaos world made my eyes hurt though...
I think that snakey dude now has been released through Alternative Armies.
Yep, inspired me to finish mine from years ago.
-
A couple of 15mm photos. As usual, 28mm monsters make good giants!
-
Great work! Lots of cool old school sculpts. 👍
-
My eyes they hurt from this awesomeness haha
Love this stuff mate! Keep going! :D
-
Great work! Lots of cool old school sculpts. 👍
Love seeing the older sculps to!
-
Spectacular work.
-
Thanks for some kind words all!
Since I did say all scales, here are two Runequest themed projects - 1/72 and 10mm. Beaatmen/broo are from Eureka, sent as free samples with an order almost 20 years ago and now they're about to get an order from me!
-
Some more Runequest. War zebras in the setting are as big as horses, but I still chose the smallest I had. A really fun idea but so fiddly!
-
I love the war zebras!
-
I bought a box of Oathmark humans and got as far as three (I chose a difficult scheme) so I've decided to mix some among my mutants/beastmen units. I'll add varying degrees of mutations, Mr. test scheme here just got a horn!
I love the war zebras!
Thank you!
-
:o :o :oWow! Really awesome stuff! I love how the 28mm Minotaur becomes a ferocious huge monster and the way those 1/72 humans work with smaller stuff is just terrific!
-
Kind words again!
Today I've painted some 10mm from Eureka. A project for the year is to paint matched beastmen and lizardmen armies for solo games. I want to actually finish them, and have decent numbers, so 10mm and very simple painting it is! I'm not sure if in my mind they'll be for Warhammer fantasy or age of Sigmar yet...
-
That Persian Zebra did tickle me pink. lol
Very creative...
-
Very nice additions to the beast and reptile armies. I don’t think I have seen those figures before - they look like quite good sculpts and your painting suits them!
-
Yes, very nice models with suitable paintjobs on them! Enjoy playing some nice games!
-
Thanks again everyone!

Thanks! The beastmen aren't nearly as good as the lizardmen, some really basic weapons and hands. There's a good number of variations (more than they show on their site) and they do sets with different animal heads. There is a larger set sold as "ogre beasts" that are really just beastmen, I'm going to use them as characters and as slightly small beastmen in my 15mm army.
-
Cool new additions!
-
Some more beastmen, I love the shaman model so I bought six...
-
Oh yes, the shaman is pretty cool. And in a beastie force you cannot have enough of them!
-
15mm today (they're actually 10mm "ogre beasts" by Eureka, I'm using them as slightly small beastmen, Demonworld 15mm to scale)
-
A horde worthy of the gods! They fit perfectly.
-
Brillant! :o
I always love such scale shots. There’s a lot of good stuff hidden in the 10/12mm department that can be used for 15mm.
These work really well as „little folk“!
-
Thanks again! Yeah, lots of scales can mix without much trouble.
Today another mutant, Mantic orc body and shield/arm, oathmark head and weapon/arm, warhammer chaos shoulderpad.
-
That’s a great kitbash! I never thought about using the Mantic orcs for mutated chaos followers, but I like how yours turned out. Totally has that twisted look. Thanks for the inspiration!
-

I’ll second that! Very cool idea!

Thanks both of you! I bought an army of Mantic orcs, only to find I don't really like them. I did some mutants years ago, starting again in my current style.
-
Some wonderful "Faeries transforming into carrion" from Eureka. Part of a 28mm range (Avalon Burning) that just so happen to suit 15mm harpies or similar.
-
Like them, especially the mutants!
-
More today, Asgard and Ral Partha! I've said elsewhere, I'm not a big fan of blood effects, but it sounded like a fun excuse here.
-
Not sure which one is my favorite: the
harpies faeries are brilliant, but that purple sorcerer is ace. Very creepy)in a good sense) shield design!
-
Thanks DivisMal!
Some 15mm (18mm from Eureka) today. I tried a different scheme for the orc steed to what I've used before.
-
10mm Eureka again used as 15mm!
-
More Eureka 18mm/15mm
-
Great Additions as always! Love the rusty knights :-*
Just out of intrest what base size do you use?
-

Thanks! 20mm for my 15mm infantry, 20x40mm for cavalry.
-
Some old pics of a one page rules game. It's inspired me to try some more solo games!
-
Going to try another solo game of Age of Fantasy.
-
I love 15mm fanatsy and have a couple of thousand in my collection of various races.
-
More 10mm Eureka beastmen with Warhammer friend for scale
-
Grumpy Miniatures 15mm added to existing models today
-
10mm Eureka, based on 20mm. Rebased from rounds, sadly you can tell!
-
As always lovley additions!
-
More Eureka 18mm/15mm
How did you achieve the rust effect?
They look very cool
-
Thanks kind words again!
How did you achieve the rust effect?
Easy one - black undercoat, drybrush reddish brown, drybrush orange, drybrush metal!
Orc rider added today:
-
I really like the colour schemes on those orc riding beasts
-
I really like the colour schemes on those orc riding beasts
Thanks! Tried a few "realistic" animal prints, but went with bright colours.
Today some Eureka 18mm trolls, here with 1/72 uruks, 28mm goblins and 18mm orcs.
I think they'd make good armoured goblins in 28mm...
-
10mm dryads today. Cheating since they're so quick to paint, now I want an army!
-
Cool additions! Go for the army :D
-
Some more beastmen, I love the shaman model so I bought six...
Very nice, I've been looking for a beastman shaman. Can't seem to find him though?
-

Haha yes, next order with them I will!
Very nice, I've been looking for a beastman shaman. Can't seem to find him though?
I think it's one of their models they really only sell in person I bought a handful of these and some leaders that usually come one in a pack when I had the chance. I'd say email them if interested!
-

Thanks I will, when you say leaders, do you mean more Beastmen not on their site? I'd be interested in seeing them

This one in the middle, sold as beast lord with the ogre beasts pack. The ogre beasts name put me off for years, not realising they're basically just slightly large for 10mm beastmen!

-
Nice work on those.
-
Very cool, now on my list
-
The Dryads came out very well.
-
Thanks everyone!
Today, some timber screw cover buttons for some weird mushrooms!
-
The more I follow this thread, the more I'm convinced I went into the wrong scale. 15-18mm really seems to be the sweet spot.
Also those mushrooms from the screw tops are absolutely genius, will definitely be stealing that idea.
-
Two little "rules testing" armies lined up.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm finding it my favourite scale for actually finishing units. 28/25mm will always be my first love, but more for display.
-
I resisted for so long not to buy some Eureka for the lead pile…. But you did it, I’m weak lol
Great and inspiring force you got. Love the man orcs as Chaos Warriors 8)
-
I've been wondering about using the manorcs as Ogres in 10mm

Who makes the red armor Vampire(?) Knights? They are cool

They are man orc (18mm) from eureka. „Uruks“ ;)

Yeah Eureka, so can get from Australia, UK or US:

I'm thrilled you said Vampire knights, that's what I originally meant them to be, before deciding on painting chaos/Khorne symbols! I might still do some.
-

I should get a commission...

Half the fun of smaller scales, mix and match. These are on 20mm square if that helps.
What rules are planned?
Runestar D12, indie set on wargamevault. We'll see how it goes, a bit different but looked good from a read through!

interesting, noticed it a few days ago. Keep us updated how it is.

For anyone wondering:

I played out the first turn solo tonight. Quick thoughts, I need a bigger set-up, I have a 3' x 3' folding table for small games, I'd like a second to have 3' x 6'.
I statted up some units based on the army lists, sticking to basic infantry, missile, heavy infantry and light/med cavalry. No leaders, no magic, since I really just want to get my head around combat and morale.
Reading through, everything made sense. Any questions answered by the next page. Morale is more than just keeping track and then suddenly removed from the tabke. Not many counters needed to keep track of anything.
Individual figure removal (which I appreciate is make or break for some people). D12 roll against stats, easy modifiers. Fairly lethal! Generally two ranks fighting/shooting. Movement fairly forgiving, but positioning important.
Nothing really gimmicky or gamey. Rules are interesting... nothing that screams amazingly innovative or out there, but not always the usual "roll D6, hit on 4+" flavourless if that makes sense. Beware, "ranks" are multiples of the minimum unit size, not rows in a unit, so whfb players might have to read it again!
Magic sounds lots of fun. Cards drawn, you create spells with a beginning and end, adding cards in the middle. Some real "meaningful decisions" it sounds like. You need to print a set for each caster. Something I usually hate, but I'm willing to try it.
The units I used were a bit small. Once they hit below minimum size (infantry 5ea, cavalry 4e for example) they become lose formation. I'll bump them up and play again!
-
Sounds interesting. I think I put it on my list. (Got a small rule collection addiction)

So 20+ minis or even more per unit?

20 for infantry, 12 for cavalry sound about right, but you can go up and down.
-
Some little palisades made from balsa wood dowel and some scraps. I'll use them for 10 and 15mm, but they might be useful for adding to 28mm terrain as well.
-
Looks good, I need to knock something similar up for 10mm
-
Simple, effective, pleasing to the eye.
Can't ask more from terrain.
-

Thank you!
Also nice palisades.
-

Wow! I see it now. Well done
-
Thanks again everyone!
Some 10mm frogs from Eureka
(I bought these in person, I don't think they have them online)
-
Flagellants today! My, what big feet you have
-
I got some mdf mantlets half price. I'm so late to mdf terrain, but I like the simplicity. Since they're so basic, I'm happy just painting them black and drybrushing two browns.
-
Love your 15mm.
15mm is the best scale for fantasy mass battle
-
1/72 plastic roman ballistas, very cheap and look decent for 15mm!
Love your 15mm.
15mm is the best scale for fantasy mass battle
Thanks! Yes, I think it's the best compromise of all sizes
-
I really like the chaos guys and have been wondering if they'd work as 10mm armoured ogres
-
I added a few more Eureka elf swordsmen. These just may he my favourite range...
I really like the chaos guys and have been wondering if they'd work as 10mm armoured ogres
They probably would. (These are on 20mm squares if that helps to size them)
-
Love the forestry / woody bases - very suitable for these troops.
-
Some finished yesterday
-
Good Uruks
-
that purple and bronze goes really well on those models.
Lovely looking force coming along, can't wait for a full army shot
-
Thanks again for kind comments!
Just some more 1/72 today
-
Love to see some Jackson style Uruks painted up- you’ve done a cracking job with them, they look very suitably grimy and horrible ;)
-
20 for infantry, 12 for cavalry sound about right, but you can go up and down.
Kudos taking a chance on Runestar D12 and getting a game in. Really digging your miniature collection, I do a similar aesthetic :)
I usually run shieldwalls at 25 infantry. If you really want them to hold the line give them full command and a hero for that vital +1 morale bonus.
For shock infantry (great weapons, etc) units of 10 can be nasty as flankers (remember that enemies have to fight forward before they can fight sideways). Fighting in two ranks every turn, great weapons can devastate even the most powerful foe.
For cavalry it depends - a small unit (8-12) can outflank an enemy you have pinned down with your infantry, but a larger unit (16-20) with full command can really dominate a battleline and can even take a few charges. Generally speaking head-on cavalry charges will get bogged down; they do much better with a support unit flanking the enemy and forcing morale tests. In one game a humble unit of ten spearmen flanked an enemy block, forced them to test, pushed them back and allowed my shock cavalry to charge again and get strength bonuses.
Runestar D12 is all about grinding the enemy down - once you fall below one rank you are effectively toast!
p.s. The Rune Magick system is really the best thing about the game! Definitely where most of the innovation can be found :P
-
beautiful! Would be awesome to see more 1/72 from you :-*

Thank you! Lots more, mixing historicals with fantasy though.
-

Thanks! I only get to play solo, hopefully I get a chance to play more than just a test game soon.
One thing I would have loved to see is a generic army list. Something like levy, trained and elite for infantry, missile and cavalry.
I really respect the idea of an existing setting and armies, but I do like to just pick a couple of forces based on what I have painted when trying a new game.

Brilliant idea on the Generic list for tutorials, etc!
This is compiled from stats in the rulebook. Is this any use? Add or subtract any other stuff?

Perfect, thank you! Things like light/heavy chariots or war machines could be found easily enough from other lists.
-
Mixture of eras, so they'll go in my fantasy armies!
-
It's uncanny how similar our styles are :)
Do you do pics with backdrops too? Like some kind of diorama?
p.s. please remember to rate Runestar if you get a chance to!
-
Just a favourite photo today.

Thanks, I do like the photos in your rules. I'll rate when I get a chance to play another game.
No backdrops, I really should try.

Skaven plague monks today. I have a decent amount of these, but I keep changing colour schemes!
-
Love me some skaven. The scheme looks great!
-

They look great!
And for skaven a constant colour sceme change is only a positive
-
wow your 1/72 figures are awesome! Would like to see more of them o_o
-
Your plague monks look fantastic!
-
Thanks all for the kind words, I really like the skaven Pestilens models!
10mm today. My first ever 3d printed models, from an Australian printer.
-
Nice and funny :)
Good idea to mix several scales, periods, manufacturers... that's the power of Fantasy!
