I don't know the background behind this piece so I thought they were bulls! lol Care to enlighten me? ???

Post by: bigredbat on October 21, 2009, 12:44:24 PM: Hi Killshot, The Shakers and the Mosatli in Glorantha, are both reported as using blind albino cave oxen. I'm not sure whether this is because they are both earth cults, or have trading links or whether the concept was so good they used it twice! (Why are oxen used in caves, anyhow? Perhaps to pull mining carts?) I think oxen are a different breed of cattle to, say, milk cows, but am not an expert.

The minis are oxen from Front Rank, used to pull Medieval wagons. I added a knob to the end of each horn to match the illustration in the "Unspoken word" magazine, and moved some of the heads about a bit.

Post by: bigredbat on October 21, 2009, 02:57:40 PM: Ah Killshot; it's the background to the Dragon Pass Boardgame, that ultimately led to the Runequest and Heroquest role playing games, and the development of the world of Glorantha. Runequest was a competitior with AD&D, back in the day; still has many adherants.

I still often recall lots of funny events (from Runequest in particular) that occurred the better part of 30 years ago. The campaign background to RQ was so rich and colourfull it led to all sorts of great stories.

At least that's the German definition. In general both terms are used for male cattle, though there is actually this "minor" difference...
