Title: I made a daemon engine from a charity shop toy
Post by: James Holloway on November 29, 2022, 10:48:07 AM
I have no idea what the toy is or where it came from, but I've had it for years. Inspired by a facebook group challenge, I finally got it together to convert, crew and paint it. I think of it as some primeval boar god corrupted by the coming of chaos and finally entombed alive in this brass and bone nightmare, with the high-pitched shriek of the saw blade being like the squealing of the boar. Here it is!

Tremendous! That's just screaming to be used in a game!

That's a very effective conversion of that Reaper figure too.

Thanks! In my experience, a lot of Reaper Bones figures, particularly older ones and human-sized ones, benefit from head swaps and weapon swaps. If you have a well-stocked bits box you can do a lot with them; otherwise, the smaller figures are just a bit too bendy.

Yes, indeed - and it fixes the problem of soft details on Bones faces.

I absolutely love projects like this one.

And yours turned out amazing!

Any progress picture or a before/after photo?

Yes! What on earth did the toy look like before?!

Yes! What on earth did the toy look like before?!

Pretty much like that1 All I did was fill in some gaps and holes, build the platform at the rear so that the chariot had two sort of siege tower levels, make a floor for the "cockpit" area, and so on. The basic structure of a boar with a buzzsaw in its head was already there. Honestly, I have no idea where it came from.

Also, don't ask how the guys up top get up there. I was going to add a ladder but I forgot.

Add a rolled up rope ladder to the top level. You don't want people/things
climbing up a ladder after you, do you?
 ;)

I found it!

Or at least I found someone else talking about it (http://www.jomitoys.com/2010/03/vikings-darkwater-sharkie-playset.html)

James, I think you did an amazing job. it really does look like something you would see in a large chaos invasion.

That's it, all right! The rest of the line looks like it would make pretty good Chaos marauder fodder as well, actually.

Really Excellent work.  "Toybashing" is my favorite source for terrain and sci-fi vehicles (usually spacecraft) but I've not used it for fantasy vehicles.  Really impressed by how well it turned out.

Really nice conversion that you have done.

I have ordered one of the Tusker toy creatures after seeing it in the range.I am sure a lad who has a Comic Collectables shop near to me had one in the shop.He did not know what range it was from though at the time.

This looks very good.

It's a Chap Mei toy, I think OOP but I'm sure they come up on Ebay.  Checked a couple of minutes ago and there were a couple.
