Post by: Nighthawk on February 02, 2023, 11:18:08 PM
Sorry if this has been covered in the past or not. I just got back on line. If anyone has done Italians would love to pick your brains on uniform colour. Plus it would be great if anyone has done the Italian Comandos if maybe you ould share colours
Thank you in advance

For what theatre? Europe or Africa?

Sorry for Europe. I've seen a number of You Tube videos on the subject all with different ideas. Just want to know which one to go with. And not one that has a complex painting technique. Just simple and correct colours. I have a lot of Italians to do. ;)

Italian Grigio verde is an elusive colour and there is no correct paint available on the market, to my knowledge. It is definitely more towards the grey side of things, but still with a definite green tinge. My take (I am working on a project for a customer right now) is a mix of about 25% 70.886 Grey Green and 75% 70.830 Fieldgrey (both VMC) with a very thin Umber shade wash. Fieldgrey for the puttees and webbing, Canvas for the breadbag and water bottle, German Camo Dark Green for the helmet.

If you are on Facebook there is a group called painting Bolt action. If you join the group you can see a wonderful Italian army section painted by Enrico De  Santis. You should be able to contact him through Facebook and ask him what colors he used.
