I hosted another "The Sword in North Africa" game for my club. Follow the link to my Flickr page. The scenario is For Saganne.

Lovely fort. Feel rather sad for those poor spear armed Arabs who had to go up against a fort manned by men with rifles. Or did they get treated as better armed for the game? (Double duty for more western actions and Sudan perhaps?).
-
Just spears and the Swordsmen just had swords. Brave fellows!
-
Great looking fort. What scale is this and where did you get the fort?
-
The attackers did remarkably well! Looks like they stormed the walls - against an MG and a cannon!
Not quite sure what happened when the Legion cavalry arrived - looked like a chase around the fort!
You can get smaller playing cards, which would be much less intrusive on the table. I got some around quarter normal sized, from eBay. They are very cheap around £1 a pack, often sold for children’s parties.

Everything is 28mm. I think the fort came from Old Glory. They no longer carry it. I have had it for many years and have survived many moves.

Thanks for the tip, Fred. I will look to eBay for smaller cards. I hate clutter on the game table, but I have come to accept it due to the nature of the rules. Lots of cards and dice on the table. Some of my players have been gaming TSATF for a considerably longer time than I have and they are accustomed to placing a card on or near the unit to indicate it has moved or fired.

The French cavalry entered, according to the scenario, at that corner. It just so happens there was a berserk tribal horse group in front of them who had to charge them. They are really tough and a difficult out. The Chasseurs lost several bases and the Berber horseman only had two figures left so they routed off the table. The game ended before the cavalry could do anything else. They were going to charge the spearmen at the base of the fort, had the game went on longer.

Beautiful fort! I actually found a copy of the film "Fort Saganne". The one in the film was just a clump of ruined walls! Still, the film is an excellent depiction of native troops in French service. Great cast with Gerard Depardieu and the always lovely Katherine Deneuve. Hard to find, but well worth watching if you don't mind subtitles. Cheers, Jeff

I have the film on DVD and VHS. "Fort Saganne" is almost unknown outside of France. It is one of the great colonial-era films of all time. It wasn't released in the US, why I don't know.

Very nice. It looks like the Hudson & Allen Desert Fortress. Not sure if it is still available.

That sure does look like it. Either OG sold it or I got it direct from them.

Meant to comment before now. Great looking battle. Tough day to be French, it looked like...

@Old Contemptible, looks like another fun and exciting game. I always enjoy your AAR’s. Beautiful table and minis. I do love TSATF and the FFL.
Nick had asked on TMP what rules do you use for the scaling ladders. Are these from the North Africa supplement in the 20th anniversary scenario pack or from elsewhere?
